Lightbringer1 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) Hello, I just clicked on Tequila to play CoH. There was an update that was downloaded automatically. Then, once finished, I clicked on Play and I got this message: « We were unable to locate the game data files. It is likely that your installation is corrupt and needs to be repaired. The game will now exit. » (The only buttons available with this message are OK and Copy to clipboard.) I went in the options and did a Re-Validate. Once done, I clicked Play again and got the same message. How do I '' repair '' this? OR What other action(s) needs to be done to fix this problem? Thanks in advance! Edit: I am using the 64-bit option. Edited October 6, 2020 by Lightbringer1 more info
City Council Number Six Posted October 6, 2020 City Council Posted October 6, 2020 @OrionX Click the Options button in Tequila and check the Launch Parameters box. Make sure it's empty, it looks like you somehow got a '[' bracket in it. 1
Electrobolt2 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 thanks, cleared my launch parameter box (had www in it for some reason) and seems to be working!
Dirtball Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I am also not able to log in. I have checked my Settings and the launch parameters is empty. I have done "Re-validate" and am still getting these errors: Download error: hc-bin32/cityofheroes.exe Size mismatch (948 vs 9070592) Checksum Mismatch (456dfb493e53c7716ef7bc30c1521bf5 vs de119620495e76e23526366ea3bb0281)Download error: hc-bin32/crashhandler.exe Size mismatch (948 vs 1243648) Checksum Mismatch (456dfb493e53c7716ef7bc30c1521bf5 vs 1c8e3b7a611d04071d9d619d9fa843da)Download error: homecoming.exe Size mismatch (948 vs 9070592) Checksum Mismatch (456dfb493e53c7716ef7bc30c1521bf5 vs de119620495e76e23526366ea3bb0281)
nethod Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Mine hangs on a black screen till says "coh is not responding"
OrionX Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 I tried a complete reinstall of Tequila and still get the same error I don't know what else to do as I don't know what the error means. Everything worked fine last night before the update
OrionX Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 That worked Click the Options button in Tequila and check the Launch Parameters box. Make sure it's empty, it looks like you somehow got a '[' bracket in it. Thanks for the quick reply!!!!

Lightbringer1 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) My problem has been solved, however I don't think the way I did it should be the way everyone else should do it: I went into the folder of the game and I deleted everything related to CoH / Homecoming / Tequila. (I saved the « keybinds.txt » file on my desktop.) After that, I double-clicked on Tequila.exe that I saved on another drive. Went on with the instalation. The I got an error telling me it was unable to download an icon. I went in the options and clicked Re-Validate. It apparently solved the problem, cause after that, I clicked Play on the 64-bit version, logged-in, selected the server and my character (wich all were there) and went in the game. So, like I said, my problem has been solved. However, I don't think my way should be the way everyone else should be cerrecting this. I'm pretty sure that most people are not comfortable enough with computers to do what I did (wich is not a big thing for some of us, but I think it is for a lot of people). That being said, would it be possible to publish a quick and easy way to fix this for those who are not familiar with computers? Also, I assume that for those who DID NOT UPDATED THEIR GAME THIS MORNING, the patch will be adjusted in order to not have this problem... (However, at this level, this is beyond my small knowledge of computers... 🙂 ) Thanks in advance to those working on this problem! Edited October 6, 2020 by Lightbringer1 spelling errors

Grumps Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) My issue is the exact same as Lightbringer1 (second post down from top) Any help appreciated. The instant I press play I get a program Error notice 'We were unable to locate the game data files. It is likely that your installation is corrupt and needs to be repaired. The game will now exit.' Tried re validating and still the same. No idea where the repair option might be. Edited October 6, 2020 by Grumps
DrewSabine Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) Cant Log on, Even after full validation, launcher keeps identifying corrupt files and wont launch. Looks like its not just me? tons of issues with this update? ill just give it a few days and see what happens. Edited October 6, 2020 by DrewSabine
City Council Number Six Posted October 6, 2020 City Council Posted October 6, 2020 Those who are getting the 'unable to locate game data files', where do you have the game installed? So far everyone on Discord who has reported that error has had it directly in the root of a drive rather than in a subfolder, which is... not recommended.
Lightbringer1 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I re-installed the game in a folder, instead of the root, like Number Six is explaining. This might have been the source of my problem. Hope this can help others.
