Dude, I'm a veteran, we don't deserve additional special treatment on top of all the special treatment we already get. I'll begrudgingly take the free appetizers once a year, but carte blanche on name registrations for a fan-run server of an ancient game is excessive.

Edit: Also, in regards to this not working as well on Live, Live also did not give you infinite character slots.

Why is it OUR problem that some people have Stage IV Altitis and terminal lack of creativity?

very humble of you brother, but speak for yourself.  definitely don't want some doofus with zero imagination to steal the name of an alt I've been working on but had to drop when I got the orders.

Hoo boy.

Yeah, those two responses are key evidence for why a name policy with no exemptions are needed.

Sorry, to you, everything is "evidence" as to why your opinion is "right" and everyone else is "wrong".

Oh well.  Your argument in bad faith aside.  the devs will do what they will do.

I'm not the one being hyper-aggressive over a suggestion to insert a naming policy.

It's not that everyone else is wrong - it's that so far 3 or 4 people (maybe more, I've lost count) have come in guns blazing over a simple suggestion. I've seen better commentary in the sense that some people are right - it might not change a thing. Very few names may end up getting released. However, I am of the belief that it is better to have tried than not to have tried. I have stated that it is my opinion that any policy like this does not need exemptions. I do not believe anyone is so high and mighty that they deserve to be exempt from a policy at all in regards to names. Not even myself - just because I have level 50s does not mean I should be exempt from a policy about name releases.

I have maintained this stance, but you and a couple others have been rather vitriolic because you disagree with the mere idea of this and my other stances.

I do consider this thread a success in getting a GM to reply and getting folks like Teague to offer valid points.

My problem is that some people want to be Scrooge McDuck and swan dive into a pile of alt names they can't realistically ever use, short of becoming Goro, Prince of the Shokan and leader of the armies of Outworld so they can have sufficient arms to multibox all their names. I don't know what your problem is, persay.

Hey buddy, the secret to trolling is subtlety.

I stopped reading about page 3. I am a veteran and do not think military needs an exemption. Most places have internet, maybe you couldn't play because of quality issues but you could log in occasionally to "save" a name.

Now to the argument about "no one is special" that also applies to anyone that thinks names should be purged. Why should they do anything you think? You also aren't special.

Thank you fellow veterans for your service. Thank you healthcare workers/police/firefighters for your service. Thank you everyone else for all you do as well.

It is just a suggestion, so I don't really have any foolish notion that this will be done just because its been suggested.

They can full well ignore it, and I'd be fine with that. It'd just be neat to give it a shot and try a policy.
