RogerWilco
Hi, I finally got my first character to level 50, where I only managed 49 back on live. So this is my first attampt at understanding the Incarnate system. I think I have a resonable handle on how the trees work, and how to make the things. The character is a vaguely Kryptonian inspired flying brick. For my Alpha slot I'm working towards the Spiritual Total Radial Revamp, as that seems to be the best option for this build. For the Justice slot I'm working towards some form of the Cyonic abilities for thematic reasons (Kryptonian Ice Breath) For the Lore slot, I'm working towards Carnival Partial Core Improved Ally for similar thematic reasons. But I was wondering what the best choices would be for my Destiny, Interface and Hybrid slots. Any advice on those would be welcome. Any information/maths/numbers on what the powers do exactly would also be welcome. If you think I made any stupid errors in my build, I'm happy to have those pointed out to me, this is largely a build I copied from the Paragon forums 10 years ago. I am wondering if I should go for even more regeneration, with things like Hybrid Melee, or that this would be overkill/diminishing returns, and I'm better of with some +damage abilities or so. I'm also wondering if Barrier is any use to me. I have looked at places like https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Destiny_Slot_Abilities , but for example the Barrier power doesn't say how much +defence and +resistance it gives. It could interleave very nicely with my Moment of Glory, or it could be overkill given my current numbers and maybe Rebirth is better? Thanks. Arklide
Congrats on your first 50! Love the inspiration. Bad news is the build you posted would fold very quickly in serious endgame content. Sadly regen needs *a lot* of help to hold it's own at high levels so you can still feel super. Especially when you dont have allies at your back. You need some degree of defense and resistance bc regen just cannot keep up otherwise. But all is not lost! I modified my own regen brute for ya to keep it as close to your theme as possible and still save the day with plenty of gusto. One of regen's bigger flaws is the severe lack of debuff resistance/protection. Ageless Radial Destiny is the perfect for you bc it offers recharge and debuff res. This also lets you use a different alpha bc the alpha incarnate is treated as an enhancement bonus, so any procs in your attacks are getting their chances to go off drastically lowered using spiritual. Tho at first glance spiritual is a great option, but we can do better. Vigor will ensure you have maximum accuracy vs +4 mobs, give you even more HP/regen (with it you'll be camping at HP cap regenerating over 100hp/sec just standing around), and a little endurance reductions never hurts when running street justice. Interface and hybrid can be largely to taste and preference. Degenerative and reactive are excellent damage boosters if you solo a lot. But you have some flexibility. Running any that dont have a dmg component is usually just a waste of potential. The others have debuffs you would barely notice to be honest. I went assault radial bc I often run with kins or nature toons who are already buffing my damage, so I get more bang for buck running the doublehit over the +dmg. If you wanna embrace full bulk mode the melee hybrids are amazing. This Hero build was built using Mids Reborn 3.0.4.7https://github.com/Reborn-Team/MidsReborn Click this DataLink to open the build! Lucent Arklide: Level 50 Magic BrutePrimary Power Set: Street JusticeSecondary Power Set: RegenerationPower Pool: FlightPower Pool: FightingPower Pool: SpeedAncillary Pool: Energy Mastery Thank you for your reply. I will look at the build you propose in detail when I am at a computer with MIDs. I understand that because of the math and scaling mechanics, Regen cannot handle high amounts of incoming damage as well as a defense/resistance based build. I haven't felt weak though. I just know that I'm not as easily to be able to be a primary tank as some other power sets as the Regen math results in a quite sudden drop off from "you're fine" to "face plant", so you have to more actively manage and react to the damage coming in. Can you tell me what content you think I would struggle with, I don't feel like I have had a lot of issues so far, but there are plenty of things I haven't done yet. I have a bit of trouble understanding the rest of your reply. I had so far disregarded Ageless, as I don't seem to have any problem with my Endurance or recovery, and that seems to be a large part of it. I find it very hard to find any real numbers on what these Incarnate powers do, and how significant they are. I've already considered looking at the C++ code itself. How much debuff resistance does it give? In a similar vein, I have no idea how much +Def and +Res that Barrier actually gives me. I don't understand your comment about "the alpha incarnate is treated as an enhancement bonus, so any procs in your attacks are getting their chances to go off drastically lowered using spiritual". You state "Vigor will ensure you have maximum accuracy vs +4 mobs, give you even more HP/regen". I don't understand how accuracy gives regen, and I thought that toHit would be more valuable than accuracy? I thought Vigor doesn't do a lot for me, as it boosts heal, not regen. The recharge of spiritual seems to do more for me a it allows me to heal more often, but also keeps op the benefits of my click powers a much larger part of my time. I don't seem to have any endurance problems with my current build, unless I get hit with a hefty endurance debuff, which has been very rare up to this point. I have trouble understanding the description of the Hybrid Melee. I don't know what it means with "The Core branch of this tree front-loads some of its maximum buff value as the tree is climbed" and get confused with the table in the wiki https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Hybrid_Slot_Abilities Which export markup opotion do you have to use to get the nice colours? I might have further questions after I studied your build in MIDs. Thank you. Edited May 20, 2021 by RogerWilco The adventurous Space Janitor reporting for duty. Arklide
Debuff heavy content like ITF, Carnies, Malta, IDF (lotsa these endgame, especially incarnate content), Rularuu, etc can be especially rough unless you're chugging insp or have allies to buff you. I have used this build to tank many TFs even endgame with the previously mentioned stuff. I set up a couple of keybinds that help me keep Hasten and Dull Pain up at all times without me having to think about it. That's made life as a Regen brute a lot easier. 1- Ageless Destiny always refills blue bar, which is just a nice perk for teams in general. Core also has a +recovery buff, but Radial instead gives debuff protection. So things like defense debuffs from ITF or tohit debuffs from Circle Death Mages wont hurt as much. IDK the exact numbers off top of my head, but in game you can right click an incarnate and check the details to see exactly how much it gives you at any given time. 2-Once you have Barrier to T4(max) you can always have at least 5% defense/resistance more than normal, when casting them obviously give a lot more that diminishes over time to the 5%. 3-Alpha incarnates are coded to be treated like enhancements, not a global bonus. One example is Hasten. You put your enhancements in it to lower its recharge, that's an enhancement bonus. But activating Hasten gives you a 70% global recharge bonus (just like set bonuses or Luck of the Gambler IOs). Procs in powers calculate their odds of going off based on the base recharge of a power vs the amount of enhancement bonus in it. So putting recharge reduction into a power will lower it's chance to proc, but a global bonus will not. CoH has a lot of weird math going on under the hood lol. 4/5-You are correct tohit is a more powerful bonus than straight accuracy, you could easily swap Vigor Alpha for something like Musc Radial. Vigor starts giving heal and endurance reductions as you get up the tree. The heal bonus would buff the heal/regen buffs from your powers since the game uses heal enhancements for both. You can just as easily take Focused Accuracy instead of Superior Conditioning for better overall accuracy instead of relying on Vigor. That's totally up to you. 6-See 1 7-It means that the buff gives a higher value for that first enemy vs the others. Fake math example-You are surrounded by 5 enemies. 1 enemy would give you 10% defense/resistance and the others 4 only give 3%. Like how Rise to the Challenge from Willpower or Invincibility from Invuln work. That way even in 1-1 fights you're still getting a decent boost. 8-Fruit Salad Edited May 20, 2021 by Arklide

If you pick Assault Hybrid there are 2 branches. One is +DMG, other is +PROC to your attacks. Someone made a valid point, the +proc Total Radial right-side is more useful as a brute, reasons being damage scale is less then 1. Sounded like a decent bit of advice, have noticed a slight improvement in killing power. The UI for your Incarnate powers also has an option to show the details of what they do (mostly: it works better for some than others - see Hybrid), but you can also check City of Data if you're not able to jump in game, and it also shows things with a bit more detail. Here's a link to show all of the Destiny powers: https://cod.uberguy.net/html/powerset.html?pset=incarnate.destiny From there you can click each one by name to see what it's doing. For example, Ageless Radial Epiphany (the tier 4 that provides debuff resistance) has the following lines in it: The first line is pretty easy: +100% enduance to all affected targets refills your endurance on click. There's no duration to worry about, it just happens. The second and last lines deal with applying and removing the Incarnate level shift. The middle there is where you have to start looking at durations, because they all add up but some wear off earlier than others: For the first 10 seconds, everything applies and you get +70% global recharge (40+10+10+10) and 85% (42.5+21.25+21.25) debuff resistance to all of your defenses (they're listed by name), endurance drain and recovery debuffs, tohit debuffs, slows (both movement and recharge), regeneration debuffs, and accuracy debuffs. For the next 20 seconds (30 seconds total), the +40% recharge boost drops off and you get +30% global recharge and 85% debuff resistance. After 30 seconds, 10% recharge and 42.5% debuff resistance drops off, leaving +20% global recharge and 42.5% debuff resistance out to 1 minute. After 1 minute, another 10% recharge and 21.25% debuff resistance drops off, leaving you at +10% global recharge and 21.25% debuff resistance and all of the buffs (except the incarnate shift) wear off after 2 minutes. Since it has a two minute recharge, you can just pop it again at this point to restart the cycle. The information presented in game looks similar; IIRC it simply shows the attribute names for debuff protection instead of indicating that it's resistance to them, which can be - and has been - read as applying those actual values rather than simply preventing them from changing. But it lists the durations, so you don't really need to go elsewhere to see the information if you don't want to. I would include a comparison screenshot but I'm not in a position to get one at the moment so I figured I would just explain it showing what I could.
RogerWilco
I am still trying to parse all the advice. I haven't done all 50+ content yet, but so far I have mostly noticed that I'm having some trouble with some confuse and fear effects, where Regeneration does not provide a lot of protection. I was wondering if the bonuses from Clarion were significant enough for this to be an option, or that Barrier is overall a better idea to just buff my defence and resistances. Am I correct in thinking that the high Protection values that Clarion provides, are only for a few seconds, and the much longer lower protection values do not stack with protection I have from other powers/sources, but only the highest applies? Or is the +RechargeTime of Ageless so good, that with it, my Moment of Glory becomes better? I'm still not really convinced about Ageless, compared to Clarion or Barrier. I don't seem to have any Endurance problems so far. And how do these interact with diminishing returns (ED?) So far I haven't changed my build, is there a way to compare builds in Mid's ? I have looked at @Arklide's build, but I find it hard to compare. In general I'm not a huge fan of Kick/Tough/Weave, even though I understand that those probably give the most tanky option. I'm ok with not being able to tank everything, Regeneration is not really the kind of power where you can just jump into the middle of any large group and expect to survive. So far I haven't focused on making this build the best main tank, that's also why I don't have Taunt. I use Cryonic Judgement and Energy torrent a lot as a first attack to spread the initial damage spike, and then I usually survive. I will probably make a very tanky character at some point. I like this one because it is a mix of melee, ranged, reasonable survivability, and a lot of different abilities I can chain together. There are few powers that I don't end up using almost every cooldown, except Revive and Laser Beam Eyes (even though that is my favourite power on this character, having a fast ranged attack on a melee character helps a lot, if only to kill purse thieves in Atlas). RogerWilco
For my Interface slot, I'm thinking about either Reactive or Degenerative, would one or the other be better? And is it better to focus on the Radial or the Core branch? For my Hybrid slot, I'm currently trying Support. Is that an acceptable choice? it seemed to have a nice mix of defensive and offensive bonuses. The adventurous Space Janitor reporting for duty.
