Dark Dark Soul Build and questions

I have firmly painted myself into a corner by insisting that the character is Dark Dark Soul.  Now I am trying to wall crawl out without touching the floor.  Spiderman I am not.

 

So on my mids and the example build i post there is hover and afterburner and such for muling LOTG.  But those are gone from in game right?  They are just rolled into one power in each pool?  

 

Umbra Beast.  I do not love the Hell Hound.  I can deal with it.  i do love Blues and Robert Johnson's story.  Just not a vampire thing per se.  I have it unenhanced, without any but 2 slots, and would drop it in a heartbeat unless someone insisted it was a necessity for the build.

 

I left a pick off my build in case i got advice on how to get another LOTG on.  I could slam Dark Embrace, but I have no Resistances or Defenses.  Why start now.  Stay sly and only deal with what you can deal with.  My Blaster ranged softcap this is not...

I've looked at this and opened it in mids a few times, and I'm not sure where to tell you to go with this. I think for doms you often find them running some defense, if nothing else because it does allow slotting of LOTG for the extra recharge which makes domination a lot easier. I think without the place for those IOS, you end up chasing a lot of bonuses here that kind of put you in a weird spot and leave some powers really lackluster. Just my two cents but I feel like both your holds are overslotted, should likely have 4 piece basilisk set or potentially 4 piece cloud senses for shadow field. And I can't lie, it seems almost criminal that heart of darkness is slotted with a stun set, instead of 5 damage procs. 

I wish I had come up with a great replacement build, but I couldn't without doing a big overhaul of power pools including travel power. Sorry man, but I really think this may be an instance where you need to rethink this one from the ground up.

I'd also add that the pet is good, but not necessary. I think it does good damage compared to other control pets, but it's definitely not central. I have a vampire character with it, and I prefer to view it as a shadow wolf instead of hellhound, so kind of fits my build theme.

To add a bit to subb's take I will say that my most used ST control gets that full set of Superior Ascendancy so I too put that into my ST hold.  As for the AoE hold I know the dark aoe hold is a bit unusual but the typical aoe hold is where I typically will put 5 of the purple hold set since the procs are pretty much sure fire and then I'll add a 6th slot for the gladiator proc too so my aoe hold nets me some pretty nice aoe damage.  

 

You have a lot of powers with sets to 5 where just one more from that set nets you some pretty nice defense values.  The confuse for instance.  

 

The good thing to do when leveling a dom is to take all of the powers in the primary and secondary that seem interesting and have a go with them to see if you like them.  You may find a few powers not used as much so it'd be a better idea to just drop that power, save the slots and then just take another defense power where you can get that 7.5% recharge from just one slot if you don't want to slot the defense more than that.  Night Fall for instance I believe is that really narrow cone attack, you'll see whether it lives up to your expectations or not.  

 

I do almost always go with Soul Mastery as my epic pool though.  Soul Drain is far to good a power to pass up, I like to slot that with 5 of the purple pbaoe set.  Though I'd highly recommend to take the resistance shield as well it's a great shield and since you're already in the pool may as well.  Dark Oblit I have 5 of the posi.  Then I have Dark Consumption too for any endurance management I may need but it also adds to the aoe damage, though I don't use this one as often so I only have 3 slots on it one of which is the pvp -res proc which makes the group melt noticeably when I use this power.

All solid advice for Mezmera. This also really depends on how you play your dom, and at what range you tend to play it. From this I can see you do have few cones, but you've also got a few PBAOE powers and at least one Target AOE. That's not bad really, but it does put you at least some of the time jumping in to combat at close range to unleash the AOEs, then jumping back out to fire off cones. That was my experience with the dark dominators I've run too, and it's definitely workable but puts you at somewhat of a disadvantage when deciding on defenses to focus on compared to an almost pure ranged or pure melee. But there are definitely defensive bonuses to be had, and with some power changes even some more recharge that could be added to the build. I expect you'll spend more time at range than in close, so it might be beneficial to slot for +ranged defense if you can find the space instead of the typical s/l/e you find with Scorpion or Ice patrons.

No comments on the build as its all outside my wheelhouse, but for this... Update your mids 😃 It went up to 3.0.5.6 a couple of weeks ago and matches i27 page 2 now, including replacing afterburner with Evasive Maneuvers, and the other recent travel power pool changes. If you haven't already since this post!
