Illusion/Dark Affinity for Soloing Red Side?

I haven't played a Controller in a very long time... since somewhere around Issue 7.  I'm strongly contemplating making an Illusion/Dark Affinity Controller.  Assuming that I slot attuned IO enhancement sets as I level, how easy or difficult would it be to solo red side with?

It won't be difficult, both Illusion and Dark make things pretty safe overall with Invises, Confuses and -ToHit debuffs all over the place. Dark Affinity basically has good powers everywhere so it's not late blooming (you get excellent powers early and keep getting good things throughout). Early on "Darkest Night" pulling can be very effective for luring things into Tar Patches.

 

What it will be is a bit "feast or famine" as PAs do a lot of your damage. You'll be amazing with PAs up and quite a bit slower without them, especially in terms of AoE. Well placed Confuses can help with that. As your build matures and your PA up/downtime ratio gets better so will your damage.

Biggest downside is getting to 18, and then level 22 so you can at least get some decent common IOs in the build. Red side doesn't help with early TFs like blue side does. I got mine into the 40s, and it is one of the few controller builds I can see wanting to invest in once I hit 50. Ill/rad for me on live was the first build to actually pull off +4 even at common IO level.

Here is the build i use for my ill/dark:

 

Ranged def is capped

74.98% S/L resist

perma hasten

PA is 1.47 sec off being perma

strong debuffs, lots of -to hit with Darkest Night and Spectral Terror.

Tactics is there for the Chance for Build Up proc. Otherwise its pretty self explanatory 🙂 hope you enjoy!

I rolled Ill/Dark for my wrong-side project... Great fun leveling up through red content, toys constantly unlocking.

 I absolutely love this combo which made me make 2 of them......an ill/dark/soul and an ill/dark/earth both are very fun and very tough.

 

First my ill/dark/soul which has perma hasten and perma PA with capped ranged defense and capped s/l resists

 Here's my ill/dark/earth which has the ranged defense capped as well as s/l defense capped. Missing perma PA by a few seconds but that will be fixed when I add the final purple set to the build in confuse. He's so much fun to just wade into melee and start dropping the big stony fists on everyone. Some of the upcoming changes for the build will be to swap confuse set to the purple and then swap Numina set soul absorption for preventive medicine...with those 2 changes I should hit my perma PA target and still have range capped
