Weapon Model Proliferation?

Recommended Posts

So first off:

Thank you so much for bringing this game back.  It means so much to me, and even if absolutely nothing changed going forward you would have my eternal gratitude.  I also know everyone working on it is  just volunteering in their free time, so I know this may be entirely out of the realm of possibility forever; and that's entirely fine!  I just figure I'd bring them up for 'maybe, someday, if someone has the time, energy and likes the ideas'.

Basically, I'd like to see more weapons proliferated between the various weapon-using sets, at least as much as is possible.  Ex:  Arachnos Soldier getting access to most/all the AR models, and maybe the Bane Spider Mace giving access to all the mace models - or even, ideally, a lot of the various Broadsword models as well.

Likewise maybe more of the various models from Dual Blades, Axes, Broadsword, Mace and Katana shuffled amongst the rest, at least as much as possible.  Sometimes you love the power set, but not the weapon models available.  Or in the case of Dual Blades, there's just a lot of great models there you can't get anywhere else - like I'd love to use the Rapier on a Broadsword stalker.

There might be a few models that absolutely will not work with certain animations without looking totally ridiculous, and I get that, but I think there are at least a few that could work across various sets, and it'd be nice to say... be able to make a Dual Blades axe wielding berserker with a model other than the ultra-old Battleaxe.

You see what I'm going for I think.

I have no idea how feasible this is, and as I said this is just a suggestion, I know you all are super busy and aren't even getting paid so just "a thing I'd like if you can maybe sometime."

<3 Thank you for listening.

Holy SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Get out of my head! I was thinking about making a post just like this especially about having Broadsword, Axe & Mace all share weapon models (especially because the Celestial Mace is a silly looking take on the Ultimate Mjolnir/MCU Stormbreaker concept)

Also I have been wanting the Rikti Axe & Rikti Sword for Dual Blades for years no I don't care how ridiculous certain players thinks it might look.

Might as well roll all three into a single 'Weaponry' powerset in that case. If you let people take war mace/battle axe weapon models for Broadsword, then absolutely nobody will use War Mace or Battle Axe, even less than they're already never used.

Broadsword/Axe/Mace were separate powersets in a time when there was no choice in weapon models, so it would be fair to merge them all into a single one. Don't worry about the secondary effects -- like I said, almost nobody uses Battle Axe or War Mace because Broadsword is literally identical to them except with a better secondary effect.

They aren't identical.  War Mace does more damage than either by a fairly large margin (see the Pylon thread in the Scrapper forums), and has 100% knockdown and knockup (vs Axe or BS which both have chance-to-KD or KU on several attacks).  Broadsword, meanwhile, is the only one of the three with a parry.  If their model sets were merged -- besides breaking a lot of characters -- it's Axe no one would use, BS only a few people would use, and WM that would see a huge growth.

I don't know how the homecoming team feels about merging the model sets, but I'm almost positive they wouldn't go for this.

(...it might solve the problem of trying to bring Axe and BS up to par though...)

@Jack_Nomind

I think you're making one huge assumption there:  That everyone is just after power.

I personally find BS more satisfying to play than Mace, and I prefer the visuals and sound effects for the powers that have them.  Also don't underestimate Parry, it's quite useful and I like it and Divine Avalanche a great deal.

Honestly though, more than anything my aim would be for sets like AR, Blaster Rifle, Dual Pistols, Mastermind (Thugs), MM (Robotics) Dual Blades, Arachnos Soldier, Broadsword and Katana.

AS in particular - I just dislike the mace options given to Bane spiders, and am not thrilled with the rifle options for huntsman either.  So even if we somehow had to keep Axe and Mace seperate from Broadsword, the rest are all different enough that I think you could mix between those more freely.

I'm not exactly opposed to combining them but In a proliferated world, Mace has better damage than BS, but BS has the sweet stackable +Def to make it appealing so i'd prefer they kept their own power flavor even if they share weapon models.

I'd love to see a model for an Electric Guitar for the 'Axe' Powerset myself...  because there's just great concepts using that!

2nded but for Mace (especially if weapon models never get shared)

I didn't distinguish my thoughts very well.  I was responding to the notion that the sets ought to be merged into one -- I actually think that might be a good idea but I don't think it's practically possible.  The way the idea was brought up was to say that if only the model sets were merged Axe and Mace would lose their existing users.  That's probably not the case.  Axe might, but War Mace would probably gain a fair number.  The "no one" statement is hyperbole.

I just sort of... elided all that into a few incoherent sentences.

(I do assume that most people are after power.)

SoA maces and rifles are specific to the VEAT for the same reason Kheldian power effects are unique. It looks really weird to shoot energy bolts out of the head of a regular mace, or venom grenades out of a sniper rifle.

One person's "weird", is another person's "cool" I for one want the ability to fire beams out of every mace, axe, and sword model in the game.
