Endless Missions

Hello,

Is anyone aware of a way to loop ambushes such that a player or group would experience them constantly? Preferably in a way that their level slowly increases as you defeat waves? Kind of looking to set something up similar to the endless missions in Warframe. Trying to recreate that feeling of "How far can you go?"

You could do something like that with bosses, defeat a boss and it spawns another boss, and that boss defeat spawns a boss, and that boss defeat spawns a boss, until you use up all of the map's available boss slots.  You could add ambushes on top of the boss spawns as well.  You cannot add ambushes to ambushes however.

Unfortunately, no.  You can't quite get continual ambushes like that.  You are limited to the number of spawn points on a map.  And limited by how ambushes are tied an objective.

First, a single ambush will take up 1 spawn point on a map.  When looking at the map details, it will tell you how many of what  details (bosses, collections, hostages, etc) are allowed and where (Front, Middle, Back).  It won't say "X ambushes" are allowed, but you can infer from it saying "X bosses allowed" or "Y details of any type allowed."

As @Jiro Ito mentioned, you could chain bosses to spawn after you defeat another boss and so forth, however, those subsequent bosses do not "ambush" (ie run after the player), they just spawn and wait for the player to come to them.

However, each boss can accept 1 ambush when at 3/4 health, a 2nd at 1/2 health, and a 3rd at 1/4 health.  ...that uses 4 spawn points (1 boss + 3 ambushes).  Then when that boss is defeated, you could have a 2nd boss spawn, player goes and finds it, and then you could have 3 more ambushes chase the player, then spawn another boss and so forth until all the spawn points are used up.

The maximum number of ambushes in a mission is six, no matter how large your current map is. If you add more ambushes, the mission editor will complain.

Maximum number is 6

The number is not accurate.

A defendable object will silently add one ambush to your mission. So, six defendable objects will use up all available spots.

You can add  tie an ambush to any mission detail, except a Patrol, Ambush or Defeat All mission.

The ability to create endless self-spawning ambushes would allow endless AFK farming, so it's probably not high on the priority list.

Yeah, I had considered the endless afk farming as a potential downside. The hope would be that the ambushes would find other places on the map to appear so that instead of approaching the player, the players still would have to move around to find and eliminate the enemies, but the enemies could get steadily stronger.

Many thanks for everyone's input! I'll try out the bosses and defense objectives and see if I can't get a feel for what I'm looking for there.

A second best could be wandering groups with perception enhancing powers (e.g.  targetting drone) - they may eventually make their way to the player and you could spawn several each wave but it would be very unpredictable.

Oh - and if memory serves - they added the limit of 6 ambushes because originally farmers were using loads of ambushes and across all the missions running them it was bogging down the servers.
