Robotech_Master
I've been playing a Fire/Fire Tanker for a while, got her to level 50, happy with her, but my primary build is kind of a "scranker" (or maybe "tapper")--just 4-or-5-slotting most armors, with complete 5- and 6-IO sets in my various attacks. I cap out at about 80% smashing/lethal resistance. Does anyone have suggestions for a good super-tough defensive Tanker build for her alternate build slot? Assume I'll be using Attuned sets everywhere they'll fit so she's as good a Tanker as possible as low as possible. I'd like to cap smashing/lethal, and have as good a Defense rating as I can as well. I'd like to know what powers and what sets to go with. Thanks in advance! If you liked what I had to say, please check out my City of Heroes guides! jack_nomind
Pfft! I still softcapped melee and beat you everywhere else defensively except s/l typed defense. Don't be sour just because I stole your build for the headstart. ;D Edit: And -- let me make a special note of this -- didn't have to four-slot Boxing to do it. Profit
Oh, you misunderstand. See, the name of the build I posted is defensive fire tank. As it was asked for a defensive fire tank build. I have a second build that is offensive fire tank. Also, you really should push for S/L def as well as melee. The engine will pick the highest def you have to use against an attack with that type. 90+% attacks in the game have a S/L component. So if your S/L def is higher than say, your cold def, on an attack that has both cold and s/l dmg types? The engine will use the S/L def to defend against it. Now, consider what happens when that's a ranged attack that has cold and s/l as it's damage type. And S/L is higher than your cold def or your ranged def... It will still use the S/L def to defend against it. There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
jack_nomind
Just friendly competition. I wouldn't have had anything at all if not for your example. I typically build for def breakpoints (20%+, 32.5%+, 45%+) for much the reason you indicate; I like being x purple insps from cap with an emphasis on sustain. In your example, having 35% s/l defense but 67% cold resist is slightly better than having 45% s/l defense and no resist. Exactly how much regen -- or in FA's case, their click heal's cooldown timer -- plays into survival depends a bit on exactly how much incoming damage there is. But if it's really that important to you... No-Set Builds: Tanker Scrapper Brute Stalker
Profit
I like that a lot. Nice job with that build. Does fiery embrace increase radials fire damage? Might be a good reason to switch. There he goes. jack_nomind
No, there is no Fiery Aura power with knockback protection (and the only one with Immobilize protection is Burn). Scrapulous
I like Jack's second build a lot, but I would make the following tweaks: [*]Take a slot from Incinerate and move it to Tough. Incinerate is over-enhanced and the loss of the set bonus is nearly made up for by the increase in enhancement value in Tough - Jack's is at 95% S/L res, and this change takes you down to 93.65%. If you slot the new Tough slot with the Resist IO from Gladiator's Armor, you pick up the third set bonus, which is 3 points of knockback protection. That'll be significant later on... [*]Swap GFS and Incinerate slotting. Jack's version has a more accuracy enhancement in GFS and more recharge in Incinerate, which is backwards: GFS has inherent accuracy bonus and wants recharge more than Incinerate does. [*]This is a matter of personal preference, but I took two slots out of Plasma Shield. This costs two set bonuses: 3.75% Toxic and Psi resist, and 5.25% Fire and Cold resist. I think these slots have more use elsewhere: personally, I'd put one into Scorch for a Crushing Impact acc/dmg: 4 pieces of Kinetic Combat leaves me wanting more acc and damage in Scorch, and I don't want my T1 attack missing. The second I put into Combustion so I can add the Perfect Zinger proc into it. It might actually be better to swap the Combustion and Fire Sword Circle slotting to get more out of that proc in that case, but I'm not sure. [*]Since we gained 3 points of knockback protection from the first change, I'd ditch Super Speed in favor of Fiery Embrace, which I think is a must-have for a fire/fire tanker. This is a great discussion. I'd also like to see Profit's offensive build. Unfortunately I can't open Hyperstrike's build using Mids Reborn, so I can't comment on it. Scrap I'm not really a fan of Fiery Embrace; I rarely find it's significantly more valuable than just attacking again. Otherwise, I think those are strong changes; the cost to resistances, mostly Cold, will probably not matter significantly in play. I prefer the first build I posted over the second, which was made to win an argument rather than to be particularly good in application. Alterations to improve its playability are well-founded. LittleSideKick
Well I have a fire/fire tank and I made a build that I think is well balanced and I have been playing with it without any problems. http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/download.php?uc=1457&c=682&a=1364&f=HEX&dc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
McOz
@jack, you should have just asked for the offensive build ;) If he won't, I will. Can I see that offensive build of yours? Thanks! -Grim +
