Jelloman
I just hit 50 on my first tanker, a Bio/MA. Yay! I really enjoy Dragon's Tail on a tank. I'm looking for feedback on this build, focused on affordability and maximizing recharge (and secondarily on Max HP and regen). I have a full Supreme MotT set sitting around in my base, but apart from that, everything is cheap except a couple of Armageddons in DNA Siphon and the Winter's Gift slow resist. Since I just hit 50 the only incarnate I included is Agility Core alpha for the recharge, so I can see how close I'm getting to perma Hasten. I've looked at lots of other Bio tank builds here (though there aren't many MA builds). Slotting lots of damage procs in DNA Siphon seems to be very common, and sometimes in Parasitic Aura and Genetic Contamination too. I put 3 in DNA, 2 in GC and one in PA. Hover & Evasive Maneuvers are must-haves for me, it's in-concept and also I love hovertanking. I leveled without Hasten or Focus Chi but they seem like must-haves now. I took Conserve Power and PP for my 40s, but I doubt they're necessary and I can probably take some other utility powers, maybe CJ for another LOTG +rchg. (If I could find another power to dump, I could get Fold Space... since it's awesome, though not really in concept.) I leveled with Cobra Strike, but with all this recharge I doubt I need 4 ST attacks. Dragon's Tail with 4s recharge is almost its own attack chain, LOL. Any suggestions are most welcome, thanks! Sovera
Your Mids appears to be woefully outdated. It doesn't even have the usual link at the start and importing the data chunk just gives me an error. It's the new temp version, that's why it wasn't working. Alright, first thing to consider is that you have waaaaaay too much S/L resistance. You're at 99% with one ATO stack and it stacks up to three. Second thing would be that your accuracy is fine to hit +3 enemies and don't need the Kismet. Another thing to consider is that you do not need to wait until level 38 for your last attack. Comparing Cobra Strike with Crippling Axe Kick leaves the former doing.... nine points of damage less. Which is a bit ridiculous considering one is a T3 and the other a T8. So you can have a full attack chain before level 20. CAK does have a few perks like the immobilize and -fly and etc, but basically the main one is being able to slot a -res proc in there, but they are mostly only good against pylons. Crane Kick is also a very good source of both soft CC and also a FF proc. Thunder Kick serves no purpose other than a mule since we are forced to take it. It's a bit late to get started on something new but I have an old build you can take a look at. It is the expensive sort but you can change those purples and Blistering Colds for Kinetic Combats and Scirrocos. The idea is to get a new perspective on slotting. Also, lowering S/L to where a second stack of the ATO in Storm Kick would finish capping it. If you were to take Barrier I'd lower it in another 5%. I'm not sure if you will be able to import the build since I downloaded the temp version of Mids you have just to look at your build but it keeps on trying to crash on me. We can try to cook a cheaper version that still bumps S/L defenses to 45% and doubles the E/N resistances your current build has. Jelloman
Sorry about that! I'm using the latest MidsReborn pre-release 3.3.1 (which fixes the bug where it opens offscreen) but it didn't occur to me that the file format would have changed. Jelloman
Thanks for the feedback @Sovera and for the build. I see your point about Cobra Strike vs. CAK, and I was a little worried about exemping. As for S/L resists, I wasn't even aiming for that with set bonuses, they just came along for the ride in the cheap sets I picked for recharge. Tough is still useful, but I can certainly drop the UG: Resistance IO from it. I'll look for some sets with E/N resists and more S/L defense and do some AH shopping to see what I can afford. This is just my second 50 but I have over 100M on my crab main so I could splurge on a few things.
Jelloman
I took your build and advice, and tweaked for a bit until I got a fairly cheap build with about 44.5% S/L def, 36% E/N resists PLUS perma Hasten. I included the Agility Partial Core Revamp (which I just crafted after running the MJ arc and 3 BAFs). I replaced the FF proc in Dragon's Tail with damage since I kinda don't need more recharge. I left Storm Kick toggled on since I should be able to keep its flat 10% def up most of the time, it lasts 10s and it's a 1.6s recharge. Storm is also the highest DPS ST attack in MA by a good margin. I have my 4 ST attacks slotted exactly the same in my current leveling build (2 Acc & 3 Dam level 40 IOs) and the DPS shown in-game is Thunder Kick 105.5 - Storm 165.8 - Cobra Strike 122.4 - CAK 138.1. I was dubious about not taking Taunt, but then again, I hardly used it much leveling through my 40s... also, in those 3 BAFs I just ran as a Vet level 1 with no Alpha slotted, and several other tanks there, I was consistently drawing the aggro of Nightstar and Siege ahead of everyone else. I'll try this build out and see how my end usage goes, if it's fine I may drop Conserve Power for Taunt again. Sovera
You absolutly want Storm Kick to be spammed. As a rule you can/should always open with Storm Kick to pump your defense and fish for a resistance proc, then Crane Kick, then Storm Kick again, then Cobra Strike. Crane Kick will speed your clickies which Bio has lots of. A few min-maxie-details-that-will-not-break-the-build-either-way-but-why-not: - Theft of Essence proc in DNA Siphon puts its endurance recovery above the norm. I know, it does a good job natively, but the fewer mobs around (1-3) the less you'll notice its effect. So if you find you really need (like when fighting sappers or Super Stunners like mobs) a bit more oomph to it then you know what to add. - Force Feedback proc in Dragon's Tail will majorly boost your recharge since it checks every enemy in range in AoE situations. Again you live off our clickies most of the time, but even offensively it bumps up your Focus Chi to be available more often. Also they work at all levels, even exemplared down to Posi 1. - Bio is very good in terms of endurance so you should not need Conserve Power. I usually take Focused Accuracy since it stops my accuracy being debuffed but if you do not run content where this happens you might not feel a need for it. - The Panaceia proc works better in a passive skill like Health. On an active skill it only gets used when the skill is used. - I've not felt Parasitic Aura to be of much use. What usually kills my Bio characters is defense debuffing so just like Focused Accuracy check how much Parasitic is helping or if you notice no difference with it up or not. Then you could redistribute those slots to Focus Chi, one more in Cobra Strike, etc. - Agility is not helping you much. You can go Musculature for a damage bump. Even with Agility off your Hasten is at 125 so basically hit a few times with Crane Kick or Dragon Tail and the FF procs will make it perma. - The -res in Genetic Contamination has a very low chance of going off and brings little in the way of dividends. - You can swap Maneuvers for Combat Jumping for the same defense boost, but only for you while Maneuvers is for everyone. These are just minmaxy niggles though. Build's solid and you will be doing just fine with it and able to accumulate money to improve into a more expensive build. If you don't know how to sell merits check the newbie guide in the signature. - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds. Jelloman
Thanks, I'll definitely take most of your advice above. Though I'm going to keep Parasitic Aura for now, since I think it's a solid power. On my leveling build I have both Parasitic and Ablative fully enhanced for Heal/Absorb (97%), and both of them go to the absorb cap of 1874 (as long as I hit 3 targets with Parasitic). With 10 targets Parasitic also gives a 45 second boost of regen by 110 HP/sec and recovery of 5 end/sec... plus the 30 second 18% damage debuff to the targets. It's a strong tool, though I admit that for fighting an AV/GM with no adds, Ablative is much more important. But with all this recharge, I like the idea of those Parasitic buffs being up about half the time (45s buff on a 75s recharge, but actually hitting a bunch of things with it means I have to fire it as an opener - right after Storm Kick anyway - so practically speaking it'll be up about half the time). I didn't like Crane Kick on another MA toon for some reason, but once I looked at the numbers I realized the damage & animation time is exactly the same as Cobra Strike. So I'm taking Crane instead and putting an FF in there. I'm taking Kick kinda early and 4-slotting it with Kinetic Combat so I should be fine for an attack chain when exemping below 30, at which point I'll have CAK. In any case it will be much better than exemping on my crab who only has 3 non-Patron-pool attacks. Thanks again for all the feedback Sovera!
Xandyr
I'm not on my PC, but I'll pull your build up when I can. I agree with the aforementioned "drop conserve power". Maybe pick up Focused Accuracy instead? If you can 2 slot that with (the name escapes me...I'm hot and tired an can't think), you can pick up an extra couple percentage points of damage. In Inexhaustible, I put the Numina's proc and a Performance Shifter proc in it. That might be an idea for you. I wrote a guide to Bio a while back. Still need to link it in my sig. And yes, Bio LOVES recharge. You can soft cap your F/C/E/N.E defenses alone...throw in the +Defense from MA, and it should be absurd. That's a good power combo. Xandyr
Your build is pretty solid to begin with. GJ ! I (quickly) threw a build together. I toggled OFFENSIVE on, and you'll see that you're not capped to S/L resists....HOWEVER, you should EASILY be able to get 2 stacks of MotT, so that'll cap those resists, plus raise all your others. I also didn't turn on any Accolades or Incarnate powers...those would just be icing on the cake. This build you've got capped F/C/E/NE defenses in Offensive (with Storm Kick). Bio is really flexible....you can build for more HP/Regen, or Defense, a mixture, and then add in Adaptation and you can really focus on Damage, or extremely solid defense numbers backed up by decent/respectable resist numbers. Again, here's a build I threw together in just a couple of minutes, although your build appears to be solid as is. Jelloman
Thanks for the input @Xandyr. Some interesting ideas there that I will take into account if I do a respec. I was shooting for affordability for now, but I will save up for some purples or the Gauntleted Fist set. I ponied up the inf a few days ago and put together the final build below, which has been working well so far. A little too soft to psi for my liking but I can always pop Barrier destiny. (Running a 50+4 MJ arc those IDF seers were definitely hurting me, but I only had Alpha slot unlocked at that point.) I don't use Kick or Thunder Kick at all, but they're there if I exemp below 30 and lose CAK. I also kept Taunt because I feel like it's situationally useful, but I know opinions vary on that, and I rarely use it. Focused Acc would probably be useful more often. The main changes were moving the MotT proc from Storm Kick to the damage aura (which procs a lot more often, it gets to 2 stacks very quickly and easily to 3, but I lose that sweet 6% psi/toxic res set bonus), and replacing the Panacea in DNA Siphon with a mix of the two accurate healing sets, which costs a little recharge but provides some needed acc enhancement and a damage proc. The S/L resist is not capped out of the box, but Evolving Armor takes it over the cap instantly as soon as 1 enemy is in range, and the MotT procs hold it above that for 20 seconds between mobs. Mids says 10 but it's definitely 20 seconds. Hasten is not quite perma out of the box but easily gets there with FF procs, not that perma hasten is important. Perma Ablative and DNA Siphon boosts were the real goal. My attack chain is usually Storm Kick, Parasitic (with 3+ enemies), DNA Siphon, then a general cycle of Dragon-Crane-Storm, mixing in CAK against ST only. I use Ablative whenever it's up unless I just fired Parasitic. I'm enjoying this build!
