Hi, I'm in the process of rebuilding my old main Brute from Live (Street Justice/Willpower).  My goal is to have him useable as a tank in high-level contact.  He's pretty solid in most areas of damage mitigation/removal,  but I'm trying to tighten the build up. 

 

Things I'd like to improve upon:

  1. Defenses aren't capped (this isn't a deal breaker, IMO, because his resistances and regen are both pretty solid
  2. I'm not wild about having 5-slotted both Taunt and Tactics, but I was flailing around for good uses of those slots
  3. I REALLY don't know what Destiny power to take. I COULD take Barrier, to shore up his defenses but that seems like massive overkill.

Keep in mind, this build is over a year old. I'd like to think my philosophies have changed a bit since then, but I do fire up this toon still from time to time and have no problems running it. Your build is safer against fire, cold, and psychic damage.

Ok, I went and took another look at a build using these as a guide.

Just wanna offer up my own viewpoint, but while Brutes can hit Tank levels of bulk, it's really hard, and you could end up leaving damage on the table while chasing numbers. Broots should be brooting.

I managed to soft cap energy/neg energy/fire/cold defense. You would be 5 points short of capped on s/l resistance, but you have a lot of tricks up your sleeve for emergencies. Strength of Will, Darkest Night, and Barrier are your "oh shit" buttons for when the going gets tough. It seems like overkill, but with only 17.3% DDR, things will get through.

 

In a perfect world, Crushing Uppercut would get proc bomb slotting, but Gloom makes a strong filler power if there happens to be a lull in your attack rotation.

Perfect Zinger's chance for Psi damage can be slotted in Rise to the Challenge?  Really?  Does it just have a chance to do damage to anything near me?  Because that seems... too good to be true.

Also, I'm a little confused by the 2 recharge redux in Assault.  I would think that an end redux there would be more helpful.

All in all, there's a lot of good stuff in there.  Thank you for taking the time!

But yeah.  It's essentially an exercise in stacking bonuses.  And some of them, early on, do a LOT more than you'd think they would.

Also!  Why didn't Hyperstrike take the self-rez?

Mainly because you're pseudo-tanking.  So if you die, 90% of the time, they're going to park ON YOUR HEAD and proceed to teabag you until you go to your base or the Hospital.

It's annoying.  I've had enemies run halfway across a map to death blow me, then just...SIT THERE.  Meaning any self-rez or even a rez inspie... or one of the P2W self-rezzes.  The second you stand up, they start chopping you down...

-the panacea and power transfer uniques are there to help the regen aspect-- as is propping up the max health(all regen tricks)

and willpower is REGEN 2.0

- heavy blow can be swapped for sweeping cross if thats more your thing
