For a while, I've been thinking about which is better for a Fire themed toon.  I welcome any comments.

Fire Manip has some AOEs which are ok.  Both have a useful toggle.

Fire Manip has a T9, Hot Feet, which I don't usually take.  I don't think that it is very useful and I must be on the ground to use it, so I can't be a hover blaster.

Temp Manip has a T9, Time Lord, which I think is great because it improves recharge.  Now, I can use my Fire Blast abilities more often.  I can now use Blaze, Blazing Bolt and Inferno more often which should be better than the dmg abilities from Fire Manip.

What do you think?

I have a Fire Temp that is insanely powerful. But I suppose all Fire Blasters are insanely powerful.  I use Temporal because I like a bit more ranged.   Some say a True death dealer is a Blapper.  The more I play Blasters the more I see the point.  I have heard good things about Fire / Anything Corruptor.  The damage would be good and leveraged off a Corruptors debuffs and Scourge I see the point

Thank you for your response.  I also like ranged.  I read your Fire/Temp build and it looks good.  It is basically a build without the Temp melee attacks, which I like.

Saw your question in Help chat last night and I'll answer the same as I did then: both are good.

With a little more detail:

Fire/Fire is optimal if you're going for a max overkill, highest damage possible blaster.  This may not be ideal for you depending on your playstyle. You will get the most out of it running Hot Feet and casting Burn in melee.

Fire/Temp is likewise very strong, and doesn't require quite as much aggression to play smoothly. You're going to have less AoE to work with, and it won't be as optimal, but it should easily hold it's own again other Blaster combos. Even though/Time has good melee attacks it's a better fit for a ranged/hover blaster than /Fire.

/temp’s offensive support comes from stat increases (+rech). /fire’s comes from damage auras. Stat buffs are always active, but damage auras only deal damage if you enter and stay in melee. /fire also has an unusual power layout, with burn instead of the usual melee T8/9 and a 2nd damage aura (hot feet) instead of the typical mez, further emphasizing the player’s ability to hang out in melee and keep enemies in burn patches. Therefore, /temp delivers more consistent performance, while /fire delivers potentially higher dps but suffers dps loss when you are unable to melee, and is more dependent on player skill and team support to reach its potential. (Most players are nowhere as skilled as they think they are.)

/temp offers a wide variety of power types, while /fire offers a much narrower variety (mostly pbaoes). Temp also effectively has 1 extra slot because timelord is a resist unique mule and its rech bonus makes building very easy. Hence, /temp is easier to build for because you have many options for set mules and can pick up low hanging fruit from multiple set categories, while fire requires a more experienced build designer to be successful.

/temp offers exotic damage types (notably, psi in future pain) while /fire is all fire damage. /temp can compensate for the primary’s weakness against particular foes, /fire is less able to.

Tldr: /temp is versatile, consistent and beginner-friendly. /fire is specialized, variable in performance and skill dependent.

Thank you everyone for your advice.  All of your advice was excellent and helpful.  After reading it all, I decided that Fire/Temp is best for my playstyle.

I'm enjoying that toon so far.
