Starting a Elec/Elec/Mu Sapper troller

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone! I just started with an Elec/Elec troller yesterday and already got planned on MIDs a decent build (i believe) mostly focused to softcapp ranged defenses and recharge.

I´d been checking Corruptors and Defenders builds in order to pick or discard some powers for Electrical Affinity. So my question is: how necessary is to pick Galvanic Sentinel? In terms of pets already got 2 Gremlins from Electric Control and also i will be picking Mu Pet as well. It looks unnecessary or not critical to pick Galvanic Sentinel also considering some comments i read regarding this pet being stuck or killed easyly by npcs.

Does anyone have a different opinion or experience with this pet that makes me reconsider to pick it as part of my build?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Here is my build. As i said before the goal was to softcap ranged defense (+/-45%) and also get all the recharge bonuss i can. Regarding pets i aimed to get Mu pet over Galvanic Sentinel because i found better utillity with his heals, dps and endurance drain.

In order to sap effectively in CoX, you need to be able to

  1. wipe out enemies' blue bar ASAP, ideally much faster than you or the party can drain their red bar, otherwise you may as well just kill them; and
  2. keep their recovery severely debuffed, to delay their next end tick for as long as possible.

Galvanic sentinel provides #2, but not #1; it is really there for solo fenders/corrs to bounce buffs and heals back on to themselves. In fact, nothing in elec affinity really provides #1; for this reason it is not a good sapping set, despite having elec in the name. Good sapping sets are sets such as kin (transference) or elec blast (short circuit, thunderous blast), backed up by things like power boost, charge up or clarion radial to massively boost end drain amounts to overcome high AV resistances.

Right now, the only good sapping power in this so-called "sapping" build is power sink, which means your sapping power will be weak until fairly late, and venturing into melee to use it seems at odds with the focus on ranged defense. This build also has lackluster damage potential, due to a lack of damage procs and poor slot-efficiency. It is defensively very strong, but as far as doing things to affect the enemies goes, you'll have to lower your expectations.

Ok you are wrong here. Electric Conntrol/Assault got -end inherents all accross the powerset. Im lvl 32 and without Powersink i can keep all npcs drained already.

I would like to see your "efficient" build for this combo and see your goals. Im assuming you played these sets? Let us see what you got so we can learn. Then we can compare your totals vs mine.  Just critique without any constructive feedback and proposal doesnt help.

It's a mixed bag. I would drop Amp Up for the GS if not another power. Your main sapping is coming from CF and CA. CA is properly slotted for the task, CF isn't IMO.

Thanks a lot. This is a helpful advice. Ill move ATO to other place and re-slott CF. Thanks!

Elec / Poison isn't bad as a Sapper because Poisons Poison Trap does -Recovery rather than the -Regen of Traps Poison Trap. Note that procs perform poorly in chain powers like Jolting but I put them in anyway. Poison Gas Trap procs well.

Mine is an Elec/Poison/Earth (because you'll be in close for the 2 auras anyway and Earth epic gives good defenses and excellent close up damage) but here's a remix of mine as a Elec/Poison/Mu which might help. Note Static Field does a decent amount of -End too.

Not suggesting you dump Elec Affinity if you like it, just some slotting pointers. Playwise Elec / Sapping is a bit of a "layered" control build. You don't have the same level of "stop you dead" like something like Plant, instead you're layering Sleeps, Knockdowns, Confuse and Sapping via the auras, PGT and Chain Fences along with your holds. Elec Control means you'll always be busy 🙂

I'd find a way to proc slot the hell out of jolting chain at the very least as the chains can proc, and that will help your DPS.

Thats what i thought as well. However if i do so with my current build ill be losing softcap defense. Maybe ill sacrifice some + rech bonus from the holds and use 6 set Lockdown to replace +def im losing from jolting chain. Ill comeback later with an alternative build. Thanks for the suggestion.

That Elec/Poison build looks fun to play with. The reason to pick Elec Affinity was not repating sets that already have in other characters. I got a Beam/Poiosn defender which is a monster in TFs. Never tried ELA and i was curious to see if the set provides me enough buffs/debuffs to solo end content. I just got the Gremlins last night and didnt play solo with them yet, i want to see if the buffs from ELA are enough to get the pets to tank and do enough DPS.

Im stealing your build for my next /Poison Troller. Thanks for sharing

If you're using the NoRepeats rule I'd suggest Ice/Poison/Earth with as much Sorcery as you can stuff into the build. My Ice/Traps/Earth/Sorcery plays quite like the Elec/Poison but the pet is less stupid (Gremlins are even thicker than Fire Imps).

Reading this thread got me to roll my third electric control toon on HC, I liked where @Carnifax's head was at pairing with poison, as it's one of my favorite debuff sets (despite it could use a pass in regards to splash AoE size, and alternate animations).

IM pretty experienced with both sets, but thought the pairing would work well together, as I'm thinking of some build ideas with plans to cycle clarion radial and melee radial for mez protection while leaning into the end sapping and various debuffs of poison  (-def, -tohit, -regen, -recov, -damage, and -special).
