So I've leveled my Symph/Dark to 35 and I'm enjoying team play but she feels pretty weak for solo.  I just want to be sure I'm taking her in the right direction.  I'd like to have a team/solo hybrid.

Up to now I've taken all Symph/ powers except Impassioned Serenade (ST confuse) and Enfeebling Lullaby (cone sleep).  I took everything from /Dark but skipped Black Hole (targeted AoE intangible).

I guess my biggest concern is whether the pets are worth having.  The Symph pet, Reverberant, I've slotted with damage enhancements but it seems to be negligible.  Would slotting it with other debuff enhancements be better?  Dark Servant seems to be more useful, at least for healing and the To Hit debuffs, but it deals absolutely no damage.  So in terms of damage output, I could easily end up spending 3-4 minutes trying to fight a single boss on a +0 x1 mission.  I realize controllers are lacking in damage anyway, but that seems excessive to me.  And yes, that's with Tar Patch dropped.

Should I ditch the pets in favor of something else?  Am I using them wrong?

Symph/Dark is a very careful balancing act in terms of slotting and IO's. /Dark is a very support and utility based set, but if you want the most out of it you have to get near to perma Hasten to also get the def bonus of Fade perma, Soul Absorption, Howling Twilight, and multiple Tar Patch's. On the other hand Symph/ can be very damage oriented, but it requires many dmg procs to get there. Fully procced Hymn. Impassioned Serenade has 8 secs recharge and can take 4 damage procs, it's great as a single target attack for a chain. Dreadful and Confounding with procs for aoe damage.

If you care about getting a defense to 45 it can be a bit of a struggle. If you don't then you have a bit more wiggle room for recharge and procs.

If you want to up your solo game, proc out Hymn, and Impassioned. Take a single target attack from an app to benefit from containment for a 3 attack chain. Proc Dreadful, and Confounding with what you can. Maybe take an app aoe attack again to benefit from containment and more dmg.

In terms of pets, Dark Servant is amazing. Definitely needs accuracy, Cloud Senses with the proc can up his dmg slightly but he's mainly support. Reverb is meh, procs are nice if you can fit em. But I either set mule him or slap a 1 slot accuracy and he's just there to extend the duration of any CC. But both pets are layering CC so they're pretty solid.

I like some of these suggestions, mainly using procs and increasing recharge.  I made a build in Mids that focused so much on recharge though and trying to get perma-Hasten that I feel like I might be gimping myself in other areas.  It's pretty tough getting perma on a Symph/Dark apparently, and the best I could do is get Hasten down to 125-130 sec recharge.  It's going to be an extremely expensive build, and so I'm wondering if I don't really need to shoot for perma-Hasten, but instead put a little more focus elsewhere?

Sadly the recharge in /Dark is very valuable in groups, it's definitely worth pushing. Something like Fade doesn't need to be perma perma though, unless you're doing something like 4 star ITF. But until you get to that point, you can always use the step down set from the purples - Decimation for Apocalypse etc.

I made some changes to your build - I consider this one more group friendly. I managed to get your original concept down to .5 secs off perma hasten (don't forget to +5 your rech red's and others). The -tohit you can put out mostly makes up for slightly less def. Depending on the number of toggles you run, you may have some endurance issues. Gotta stay on top of Soul Absorption.

Personally I would drop some of the recharge slightly so that you can have more solo power. Something like 2 or 3 secs off Fade isn't usually crippling, and you're a controller. Then drop Sorcery entirely and take Fire epic for damage instead. Your single target dmg goes way up with this one.

Yes procs don't mix well with wanting very high recharge or perma Hasten as every power that's heavily proc'd is one that isn't providing global recharge.  That's part of why LotG 7.5% is considered so valuable.  It's highly slot efficient, using 1 slot for what typically takes 5 to achieve.

Edit:  Ideally you really want two builds I'm thinking.  One focused more on damage (procs) and less on recharge -> solo build you can always slow down.   And a second build focusing strongly on recharge for team usage as convincing an entire team to slow down especially a PuG, well that ain't happening is it 🤪.

It's not a stupidly high damage pairing but you can leverage containment via aria of stasis before using confounding chant. You can also treat impassioned serenade as a damage power first. It's tempting to slot with coercive confusion for the recharge + range defense bonus but that set can go into Reverberant. The pet is not uber damaging nor is it game changingly useful, and I tend to use the confuse more on single targets so having the pet proc contagious confusion while I focus on damage makes sense to me.

Anytime you have a power that slows you should be looking at whether ice mistral's torment would be good fit. That set has a lot offer this build because the combo dictates a ranged playstyle and thus you only need ranged +aoe defense and don't have to worry about melee defense especially if you fly. You can round out the defenses by taking indomitable will to give you high psi defense and mez protection. Keeping that and the dark buffs up require a bit of recharge and ice mistrals provides recharge, SLOW RESISTANCE, aoe defense AND +HP. Slow resistance is important for Dark because key buff powers are on long timers and all recharge and no slow resist means you will get neutered by mobs that apply -rech.

I treat my symph/dark as a debuffer that happens to have some controls. It features high recharge (good chance to perma hasten and all buff with Psi nado FF procs), softcap Range/aoe/psi defenses, 90% slow resistance, and makes use of a niche but fantastic IO set. The last slot is up to you.

Yup! Reverberant is an odd ball. I believe there is a dev post - maybe in the Force Feedback for Symphony, which explains how the pet que's for abilities etc. works. From what I remember, the faster the recharge the sooner he'll use the ability (don't quote me on that). Since he can use every power we can, he has a single target hold, aoe hold, dmging confuse, cone fear, cone stun (ones I value the most).

He's perfect as a set mule, since he can take so many sets. You could also go with sets and procs combo's which increase his control-ability and debuffs. Slotting for dmg doesn't do too much because all of his abilities are Controller abilities. In either case, he becomes a pet that layers controls, which allows you to be a more controlly-controller. I was killing my way through a group of mobs for a few minutes when I looked behind me once, only to see him have 2 minions and lt on lockdown but doing almost no dmg.

For dmg procs, he can take:

Hold: 3 or 4

Confuse: 2

Fear: 1

The fear proc isn't too useful for aoe dmg with only the one. However, the fast recharging hold and confuse, if a part of your rotation will go off fairly frequently. The hold procs will also proc off the aoe hold. In this case he can become a single target dmging pet that layers controls. I'd 100% go with something like acc/mez and your choice of hold/confuse procs if someone wanted to go that way. I've seen him get low on end in long fights, though.

All in all Reverberant can be a bit of a hit or miss with how he aims his cone aoe's. But in terms of slotting and versatility I think he can be adapted for many builds, or even discarded as a one slot wonder controller slave in the corner.

Here's my Symph/Dark build.  The concept was to play mostly at range and to maximize the cones by adding +range.  Works well solo and in teams for me.

Finally got notice my video card replacement is in the mail.  Had the new computer all set up ready to go and ... crap hopefully it was just a bad card.  Swear I'm cursed when it comes to a computer and this game.  But I'll tell you I've way too many things planned, probably won't sleep for a week.  This just added another character to try.
