I have been having issues with trying to sort my characters in the Character Select screen. I can sort as per usual with drag and drop, but when I choose a character or log off, they characters go back to the screwed up order they were originally in. It has been this way for months just getting annoying. It is on all accounts as I log in with my wife's account and the same thing happens. Is this happening to anyone else?

You have to have the "Remember Account Name" checkbox checked for the game to save the playerslot.txt file.

To add a little to what @Michiyo said, you can also manually edit the playerslot.txt file with the Notepad app... rearrange your characters how you want in there, and save it. Then when the game starts it will load the file. Just follow the same pattern in the text file.

This also means, if you log into the game from a different computer, it won't have that same playerslot.txt file that you just edited in your game directory. So when you log in they will be out of order a bit. You can, of course, copy that file over to the other computer is you like.

I’m pretty sure the sorting of the characters is kept locally on your computer. You should be able to see that in your game folder.

Before I actually attempt this, how do I turn it off so my partner can log into their account on the same machine later on?

Uncheck the box. All it does is remember the last username that logged in and autofills the field.

Just fill in their account name instead of yours when you open it.   I dual box often enough on the same machine, so depending on who was first/second I fill in the other account name.
