Address some of the criticisms towards Super Strength…

People often complain that Rage isn’t worth it, & that SS is balanced around it so its attacks have a lower base damage than other sets. I think Rage needs a buff to make Super Strength more attractive. Something to make the damage/defense penelty more worth it to the general playerbase. How about a global damage proc for all your attacks while Rage is active? Or perhaps some other special benefit? Super Strength is the most iconic super power of all time, it’s a real shame that every time I bring it up in-game I get 20 people telling me that it “sucks”.

It's Ok if you enjoy something that other people don't. There's no need to make it appeal to the masses, it only needs to be fun for some Tank and Brute players.

Making Rage's buffs more powerful seems like it's missing the point. Rage is very strong while it's active, and can be double stacked to be uber stronk; The issue is the crash. Problem is that if we were to just straight up remove/reduce the crash with no other changes, that could easily result in a busted (OP) powerset. So that might need to be accompanied by reducing/nerfing something else, which would tick off a lot of the people who enjoy the set as it is. It feels like a damned if you do/don't kind of situation here. Something something cottage cheese, something something jranger. 

 

Thankfully, for those of us (like me) who don't like harsh crashes, there are other punchy-themed melee sets like Energy Melee and Street Justice to scratch that itch, minus the outdated design framework that Super Strength has.

If Super Strength is balanced around Rage, then it follows that the damage it deals with Rage active is considered ok and thus one stack of Rage active without crash should be considered balanced. It's only when having multiple stacks of Rage that it becomes unbalanced in terms of damage output, and the crash is there to discourage stacking it too much because the more you stack it the more time you spend debuffed and doing no damage at all.

 

So I wonder, is it possible to make Rage only crash -if- there's a second stack or more of Rage still active when it expires? That way those who hate the crash could just use one stack and enjoy smashing things with no penalty, while those who enjoy stacking it as high as it'll go and being extra smashy most of the time with periods of no damage in between can continue doing that. Possibly the crash might need to be made slightly more harsh to balance things out but that would only further emphasise the risk/reward playstyle some people enjoy, surely.

My theory has always been that 1 stack of Rage should not crash but 2 stacks should. Ice brought that idea up before and it came down in a fiery rage on these forums.

I've been running a superstrength alt since day one: that guy, over there on the left.

 

I've simply never had any huge existential crisis with Rage crashes. it's one of the things to cope with in a great power set, and no deal breaker. I can't think of a time it needed more than a momentary adjustment of attacks, even in boss combat.
