cranebump Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) Working on a new story. I get to the VERY LAST mish of what's looking like a decent tale, and this glitch develops where, when I try to edit, it takes a LONG time to load. Once I'm in, I have very little time before it kicks me out, gives me a mapserver error. Then I have to log back in. I can make quick changes and save them, and I can run the arc when I select TEST from the selection panel (and it runs fine). But editing? Nope. Doesn't matter what toon I'm on. Same thing happens if I edit Published version or non-published. I have a few minor errors to fix, and need to paste in a couple text blocks (mission end off and end arc). That's it. Now, I don't think I'll be able to do it. I'm gonna have to start over....goddamnit... (P.S. I did report it, and getting some help from Dev, but I honestly think this is something that isn't fixable--unless one of you guys has seen this before?) (FYI: Just switched servers, tried another toon. Soon as I clicked edit: Mapserve). Edited March 19 by cranebump 1 I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. cranebump Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Okay so NOW I just got mapserved while trying to run one of my older mishes, Garden of the Will. Starting to think it's a problem with my account. This was on Torch with character X-Rail. I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. Just search the AE mish list for my sig @cranebump. cranebump Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 I haven’t done anything at all. I don’t have any add ones or overlays. 1 I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. ZamuelNow Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I was on Torch yesterday and some people in chat were saying they were having problems after the patch but it cleared up. Maybe that was it? Jiro Ito Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I've been having all kinds of trouble in the AE the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to get an arc finished that I've been working on forever, and it seems like every time I touch something now, it forgets the allowed number of bosses per map, or the escort in the last mission doesn't work correctly, or crashes outright to the desktop. I dropped a custom mob and used a preset one, thinking maybe it was file size (sitting at just under 17% right now). It's the longest and most involved arc I've ever done, at 5 missions with lots of optional objectives, so I'm not sure if I've pushed the system to its limit or what the deal is. Play my AE Adventures, listed under @Jiro Ito, including award winners: "The Headless Huntsman of Salamanca" #43870 **Scrapbot AE Contest Winner May 2022** "On the Claw-Tipped Wings of Betrayal" #43524 **November 2021 Dev's Choice** "The Defenders of Talos" #44578 **Mission Architect Competition Winner for October 2021: REBIRTH**

Lockely Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Check through your custom mobs one by one and make sure they don't have any invalid powers or costume pieces selected. There's been changes to both and you might have to re-save them with the updated options. Lockely's AE Tales: H: The Rook's Gambit (Arc ID 49351), P: Best Left Buried (WIP)

If it’s a powers issue or costume, wouldn’t that also lock up the arc when I play it? Edited March 20 by cranebump I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. I had to adjust an entire enemy group post-patch because they all broke, but the edits were relatively minor on my end. It's possible the server just ignores the broken stuff, but since AE is primarily on the client side, it can't. Lockely's AE Tales: H: The Rook's Gambit (Arc ID 49351), P: Best Left Buried (WIP)

cranebump Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 Okay--I deleted the 5th mish of the arc -- where I perceive the problems started. I did not get Mapserved, so it was something in that mish. I have a custom boss and a group of minions comprised of mixed customs and reskinned stock baddies. The map is office to sewers, so it's not exotic or anything. The main thing is, it didn't lock me up, so...it's a start. I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. Just search the AE mish list for my sig @cranebump. Jiro Ito Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) my unusual problems were also on the fifth mission my story...maybe something there? somehow? Pretty sure there is. I have deleted M5, however, populated it with stock baddies, and put a different version of the custom boss. I rebuilt the boss from scratch, under a new critter file name. It was still booting me out as of last night. My trouble ticket is still open, but I'm beginning to think there's nothing that can be done for the arc. That said, I DO have this very tiny window I can insert stuff/make changes. Since it seems to run fine when published, I might tough it out and actually finish it before moving on. Jiro Ito Posted March 22 Posted March 22 sorry man, what a pain in the butt. hope you're able to figure it out. i usually try to stick to 4 missions or less just to make it more breezy and fun to play, but I'm going to just plan them shorter for functionality now too. Ankylosaur Posted March 31 Posted March 31 (edited) This is similar to my file size issue, where it times out with the map server when loading because, while loading, its sort of hung and not communicating with the map server. In the past this was only on really large missions for me with a file size over 42% once published, but I have encountered it on smaller one recently. If you resize the editing window so you can see behind it you'll probably see a "Lost Connection with the Mapsserver" text banner thingy. In general, if it were a large file size - reducing the number of custom mobs helped me, and that is throughout the arc as it reduces file size. But one other thing that seemed to help, sometimes, was loading the mission from within the Architect Editing room. No idea why - and YMMV - but worth a shot. Have also been getting good success in hours when the server is quieter. Ankylosaur Posted March 31 Posted March 31 (edited) My most aggregious example of this and where I uncovered the issue was when I made the playing cards for the Adventures in Wonderland. Because I wanted to use the number chest decoration on them, I actually had a mob with 52 characters in it, on top of the MANY other custom mobs in that arc. I realized if I moved a bunch of "cards" out of the mob to another placeholder mob that was not in use, it could load without issue. I’ve decided to extend the story into three arcs, none of which are more than four missions. That seems to have solved the problem. I also think the story is better, though getting people to play three arcs instead of one hss worse odds than a crap shoot. Nevertheless, this is what I have to do to finish it. Thankfully, this is my spring break week, so I’ll have plenty of time. Especially since I am planning on the finale being only three missions. 1 I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. Just search the AE mish list for my sig @cranebump.
