Kinematic Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I’m an old school farmer from way back, just wondering the pros v cons of AE farming. I still use Peregrine Island maps such as Battle Maiden and the Unai Kemen dimensional rupture farm. Are these still viable or shall I switch to AE? I currently run my farms using my Elec/Shield Scrapper but open to trying new toons or AE if it’s more effective. Thanks in advance!
Ukase Posted November 21 Posted November 21 So, if you're an active farmer, using AE is really more of a convenience thing, I'd say. Consider this: XP in AE is ...1/2 of what XP is outside of AE. The big advantage I've had using AE is the salvage drops, for whatever reason, are both arcane and tech. So, if I choose to farm outside AE (since I generally see no reason to farm for xp, but for the drops to craft and convert) I'd have to get Harvey Meylor's demon mission as well as one of Unai Kemen "dreck" maps, or that other-worldly council empire map, so I can get arcane and tech salvage. But, if you're afk-farming, while I've done that on the dreck map, I have to check back in very often, because it doesn't take that long to clear a group of freaks. Not really worth the inconvenience for what I've after. 1 1
Crysis Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I max out active farming on PVE maps at around 280K XP per minute. Most missions take time to travel to the next one in the arc, travel up/down elevators, occasionally find glowies that are hidden, you’ll get that infernal layer-cake cave map, whatever. I can match that pretty easily in a custom-built AE map packed with all the EB’s I’m allowed to spawn and barely moving at all. The spawns just converge onto me. So while the rewards are now better in PVE, if you are just after herd-and-burn mechanics, AE still offers the most efficient XP per minute. It’s just convenient. If I’m in it purely for rewards, however, I find PVE is better because I can (depending on content) get AV’s, different salvage types, merits, aethers, etc. 1
Greycat Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I tried to farm Peregrine Island once. Just kept punching at it. No XP. All it did was create another cave after a while that the various villain groups rotate in and out of. I don't even get rent from them. 5 1 Kheldian Lore and Backstory Guide 2.0: HC edition Out to EAT : A look at Epic ATs - what is, could have been, and never was Want 20 merits? So you're the reason we have all those damn rescue missions in caves then, eh? 1

Lots factor for people's choices for AE maps for farming(as maps you've cited outside of AE are also in the AE of course). Alot of that has to do with individual AT/powerset/playstyle considerations. 1. The way you create the mobs for the map: powers given(as there is some variation), EB maps or just up to boss only(some believing that their version is more exp per hour overall with faster clears while others based on their recipe of things prefer EBs) 2. Whether you prefer long maps (Dreck's map is arguably the longest/largest) battlemaiden, circus etc as pointed out. Others prefer short fast clears (like meteor) etc. 3. Terrains. Some prefer very flat, some dont mind the junk or other objects, containers, corridors, tunnels, etc as they prefer the funneling/herding aspects of them. 4. Soloing or not, powers chosen, power sets chosen etc. There's a lot of variation on people's builds and their playstyles to the point that it affects influence/hour. Remember you share everything distributed between each person on a farm team of course. 5. Active farming vs AFK farming. Those also shape map and other choices. And more. This is why mileage varies so much in these sorts of threads. As for none AE maps(lets call them missions), due to changes over the years due to mob groups revamps posing challenges(lets just call them for what they're intended to be: spiked speed bumps) and making their exp per hour less efficient. The viability for infl/hour is less optimal than AE due to a host of factors. So all in all, if you're chasing the efficiency in the math, AE. If one is contrarian, bored, or just doesnt like AE, then almost anything one wishes to run as influence is going to be earned appropriate to your level/team regardless of the mission you choose. Only variations will be some things related to rewards(merits(or not) recipe drops, aethers, etc. 1
Etched Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Anyone remember being a bridge? I get what the OP is referring to, certain mish was being farmed long before AE came to be. Harvey Meyler and Unia had great repeatable mish (as long as you didn't get the glowie) that you didn't have to run all over PI to do. However, some of those mish were slapped with a time limit so they couldn't be farmed anymore. But... There were a few that did not get slapped with the time limit, such as Unia second mish. Which I like to use cause it is the easiest to get. Easy to farm without using a fire brute of some sorts and you don't have to run all over PI to do so. Sure, it's Council but who don't like killin nazi scum? Medium-sized map. Also, down the line Unia offers two Freak mish, one of which was farmed so mush that the devs put a timer on it. Dreck, huge map with an Av (I have seen Fire Tank herd the entire map but this was long before aggro cap.) And a second map that has no timer or AV but still smashing Freaks. So is it possible to farm outside of AE? My answer would be absolutely, but I'm not farming for salvage, I'm farming for Vet lvl exp and recipes Just my opinion to what the OP is referring to. 1
