Scarlet Shocker Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I recently rolled a Kinetics/Beam rifle defender and I'm enjoying it a lot in teams. I've very limited experience of either power set - so what should I think of when moving forward. I'm lvl 17 currently so I've got a few powers but I want to remember what the essentials are. I took Hasten, as I often do with many of my toons, and I realised that might have been a mistake because I might not be benefiting from Siphon Speed. Do these stack? There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.
Carnifax Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) Yes they stack so you want both IMO. Kin essentials are Fulcrum Shift (obvs), Transference & Transfusion Siphon Speed and Speed Boost. I keep Siphon Power even post Fulc Shift as I like to layer it into AV fights (but I'm a kin corruptor so my buff numbers are smaller). Increased Density is nice to layer on folk with Speed Boost but also 4 slotted with Unbreakable Guard for the melee def (the two Resist +Def uniques can also go in here if you're planning to skip fighting). Kin is a late bloomer but it's also pretty slot light which is nice. MoonSheep Posted January 14 Posted January 14 here’s some semi- incoherent rambles about kin if helpful. in summary: put a few acc and recharge into your kin powers and use them frequently, do what you want with your secondary and just enjoy blasting when you have the opportunity i play my defender heavily as support and find i don’t have a huge amount of time for secondary blasts. kin is also such an effective set that the build isn’t overly important - paying attention to the team and leaning into the kin goodness leads to a more effective outcome If you're not dying you're not living
Uun Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Kinetics was pretty much covered above, so I'll give you my thoughts on Beam Rifle. It's heavily weighted to ST and pretty much all its attacks have slowish animations. Due to the number of ST attacks in the set, you should skip one of the T1s. Charged Shot has better DPA but Single Shot has 75% -regen if the target is Disintegrating. Other than the T9, the only meaningful AoE is Cutting Beam, which is a short cone with a 30 deg arc. Its base damage is pretty anemic, but it has 12.5% -def as a secondary effect and takes a lot of procs. Disintegrate is a must take and core to the set. It tags foes with Disintegrating, which causes your other attacks to do additional damage, spread Disintegration or have other effects. It also has 150% -regen as a secondary effect. Lancer Shot is a pretty standard T6 attack with a mag 3 stun as a secondary effect. It does good damage but many skip this if they want to drop a ST attack. Penetrating Ray is a typical snipe and your highest DPA attack. Technically Piercing Beam is a cone, but it only has a 5 deg arc and a 3 target cap so treat it as a ST attack. It has 20% -res as a secondary effect plus a large Disintegration bonus, making it a must take. Overcharge is a ranged T9 with 18.75% -def and chance of a mag 3 stun. It takes a lot of procs. Even though it has a chance to miss, this predictableness helps to enhance the little aoe Beam has. If I'm trying to optimize aoe for the fastest application outside of Overcharge I'll pick a boss and Disintegrate - Lancer - Cutting. If possible I'll pick Disintegrated targets to hit with Lancer to try and continue the spread.
kelika2 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Once you get Fulcrum shift you wont have time to mess around with Disintegrate. once you have up to 7 fulcrum'd team mates they will be mowing things down before you get a chance to pull out your rifle
