I don't know how much effort this would be to implement, although I would think this could be easy enough to do.

 

Could we get a "Empty" option for a single hand with the Claws powerset please? Left hand is not busy in animations anyway...

I'm all for custom options, though it'd look like you were awkwardly punching things instead of, well, clawing them, but if that's what people want...

Take a look at the animations of Claws, most are focussed on striking with the right hand actually. I have build a character that has a single claw, and it looks really cool. Just being required to use something on the left hand spoils it a bit for me. Hence the question...

Given there’s a literal monstrous glove and nearly all the melee attack animations* are reused from various punchy sets anyway (just with claws on fists)… I don’t see why “invisible” couldn’t be an option for one or both hands. A punch doing lethal makes more sense than a plasma blade also still doing lethal.
 

In the meantime, if you use Widow Claws + a very bright Glow fist - combat aura, you can just about hide the claws behind the pom pom aura (which is when I really noticed how many of Claws’ animations are just energy melee ones with claws extended).

While I frequently use the monstrous glove options for my savage melee characters, the closed-fist your character utilizes for the claws attacks would kind of negate those "claws" - you'd need either alternate animations that used an open hand, or some way to have the costume option force a permanent open hand, (or maybe something like the hooked hand options, instead).
