MirAdj Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM Looking specifically for Seeds of Confusion, but I assume it matters for others; Who do I target in a group (Assuming I am outside of rnage when I set my target and activate power so it attacks as soon as I am in range). My seeds of confusion is Power Range 60 ft, Cone 50 ft. radius. 1) Power creates a cone up to 60 feet from me, that then extends an additional 50 feet (so I target the closest member) 2) Power creates a cone centered on me that extends 60 feet (and the 50 means something I do not undertand) (so I target teh farthest member) 3) something else entirely.

Seeds of Confusion is a 50ft Range Cone with a 60 degree arc and a Target Cap of 16. https://cod.uberguy.net./html/power.html?power=controller_control.plant_control.seeds_of_confusion&at=controller That means you can select a foe that is up to 50ft away and trigger the ability... then that foe plus up to 15 other enemies (as long as they are within 30 degrees either side of them and also within 50ft of you) will get targeted by it. Typical advice with cones is that if you're not paying much attention to distances + just running towards a pack of mobs with the ability ready to go then pick a target that's standing at the back. Otherwise you could end up with some of the spawn being out of range whenever it goes off. Another option is to fly/jump high above the spawn and target one of the critters in the very middle (this can basically turn cones into Targeted AoEs) Edited Monday at 08:24 PM by Maelwys
Psiphon Posted Sunday at 08:35 PM Posted Sunday at 08:35 PM I target the guy in the middle to hit as many mobs as possible.
SeraphimKensai Posted Sunday at 08:38 PM Posted Sunday at 08:38 PM (edited) The middle guy at the back row. So that way you know you will reach the maximum amount of targets in the cluster and not run out of range falling short of over half of the mob. Edited Sunday at 08:39 PM by SeraphimKensai 1
Parabola Posted Sunday at 09:06 PM Posted Sunday at 09:06 PM The safest thing is to target an enemy in the middle of the back of the group. I tab target and for speed I generally target the nearest guy and position myself for the best coverage. After a while you develop a mental map of cone dimensions and get a fairly good idea of where you need to be to hit most of a group. Something I always find really useful for Seeds in particular is some form of stealth, it gives you a bit more time to line things up. Be aware that if you have Audrey and the creeper patch following you they will aggro mobs for you though. Just so it's clear all cones originate from your character and extend out to their range. They will extend to this range regardless of how close you are to the enemy you have targetted (with very long range cones like Umbral Torrent it's easy to blast right through the group you are fighting and aggro the group behind),

It starts at the vertex (that is you) from there the cone widens as it travels out 60 feet (the height in this diagram). Once it reaches that 60 feet, the arc/base of the cone will be 50 feet wide. Cones in the game have different arcs and ranges which change the size of the base. There used to be arc enhancements that you could slot to increase the width of the base. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Which is why when min-maxing cone attacks; it's always worth considering Dam/Range HOs instead of just automatically going "2x Acc/Dam + 4x Procs"... 😉 1
Doomguide2005 Posted Monday at 07:08 PM Posted Monday at 07:08 PM Also just to pick a nit: It's a 50 foot range and 60 degree arc on Seeds of Confusion. Apparently we've all been hit by it. Sorry it was bugging me 🤪 1

There are still range enhancements and some cones can be enhanced by them. They widen the cone base because the cone's range ("height "in the diagram) is longer. Range enhancements do not change the arc of the cone. If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. Hoping that is correct, we are looking 50*π/3 feet which it looks like it will calculate out to around 52 feet base width. @Doomguide2005 I was confused by your deployment of the Seeds of Confusion as I was apparently standing within range of the cone.
