ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted April 1 Posted April 1 So the announcement has gone out about the fourth Spidey flick, and... ...yeah, if they go with some of the key elements of the arc it's named for, I'm quite pleased about it. Brand New Day is, handily, a post-retcon incident arc in the books, in which Peter and MJ's relationship has been erased (check) as has everyone's memory of Peter being Spidey (also check... which also handily explains why he wouldn't be called up for Doomsday, as nobody'd know to call him). Sadly I don't think they're gonna rez plz Aunt May for the movie. This is also the era of the Superhero Registration Act, and Pete's decided to opt out of the game entirely. Harry Osborn is also around in this one - though not in full cackling mode, that's his Menace of a girlfriend - and J Jonah Jameson loses control of the Bugle to an even more unpleasant "celebrity businessman". (No end of candidates as to who that could refer to these days.) WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.

(No end of candidates as to who that could refer to these days.) Eric Voss over at New Rockstars covers it in more depth ⬇️ , including casting calls, and speculative theories based on what is known to this point. Looks like there'll be a female villain this time. The only one I wish it was, and could not be, would be Black Cat. She's Peter's age, and the casting call is asking for one who is much older than college-aged Peter. Black Cat would have made a certain sense because (SPOILER STILL?) Peter is without friends and has left MJ for her own safety. Black Cat would likely be seen as filling that void while being able to take care of herself (despite the whole cat burgler bit). She's been portrayed as a stand-in in multiple interpretations of the Spider-man mythos. But, apparently not this time. I'm wondering if this will be a female Doc Ock? Probably not since we've had "Liv" in the animated movies recently, and "Otto" in live action recently. That suggests they'll be going with a rarer character, unless the MCU is going to do another gender swap. Oh, and if anyone sees a "trailer", there's not a real trailer nor teaser released yet.

ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted yesterday at 10:13 PM Author Posted yesterday at 10:13 PM (edited) Small updates from the rumour mills: Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) is being strongly attached to the movie as either Gwen Stacy or maybe Jean Grey. Zendaya will also return as MJ... ...joined by Felicia Hardy/Black Cat (rumoured: Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney. That's gonna make things complicated.) Casting calls have been made for an Asian male principal who could - from the description - be Martin Li / Mr. Negative. Plot hints have been dropped around FEAST so that would make sense. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will also make an appearance, with the events of Daredevil: Born Again impacting on Spidey's ability to operate. That would match up with the Brand New Day comic's Registration Act theme, except more local to NYC. Also, Mr. Negative's play in the comics is taking over NYC's underworld - so if Fisk is still the MCU's Kingpin at that point, it makes sense to go after him. Harry Osborn will be in this as a neutral: Timothée Chalamet is rumoured, but that would be a step down from being a lead, so let's see if that pans out. Involvement of the Daily Bugle is key so JK Simmons is back. And the big surprise: this flick may introduce Miles Morales, so it might wind up being a handover movie. BrandX Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Here's hoping Felicia becomes the new and permanent love interest to Peter Parker in the MCU. 🙂 1

Gwen Stacy, MJ, Felicia Hardy...sounds like Spidey is in for a love quadrangle. Gwen and Felicia are interesting characters to me. MCU MJ...meh. Not so much Zendaya, its the character I've never warmed up to, possibly because they deliberately chose to make MJ as "Michelle Jones" and not "Mary Jane Watson". I realize it is a multi-verse, but I still feel that was an underhanded move. Martin Li/Mr. Negative would be fantastic. I've only known the character from the excellent Spider-man video game, but I think he's one of the best villains for Spidey in years. Too bad Randall Park is already playing a popular MCU character. I realize he's good at comedy, but something about him makes me think he'd be great in this role. 3 hours ago, ThaOGDreamWeaver said: Harry Osborn will be in this as a neutral: Timothée Chalamet is rumoured, but that would be a step down from being a lead, so let's see if that pans out. Hmm...at first I was a little put out by the idea of Harry being in yet another movie when the Spider-verse is so rich in characters. But then it occurred to me that there are two avenues to explore: 1. Harry meets Peter on the street, forms a friendship, and acts as patron to Peter's training and paying for an apartment. 2. This Peter may have a natural curiosity of who his universe's Norman Osborne is, since the other Norman was responsible for May's death. If he goes looking, he might meet Harry as a side effect. He might also find his universe's Norman beginning down the path that will lead to the Green Goblin, something he would intend to disrupt. 3. Simmons has been doing JJJ for almost a quarter-century now. The man's a trooper, but this cannot last. 4. I'll go out on a limb to say that this is not a handover movie. There's been plenty of chatter that this is the first in a new trilogy of movies (one speculation is that they'll all have "Day" in the title, like the first trilogy has "Home" in the title. It might, however, be the first in a trilogy of mentoring movies if Miles and possibly Spider-Gwen are onboard. That would dovetail nicely with Stark mentoring Spidey in his appearances through Endgame.

JK's only 70, which is a spring chicken by some Hollywood standards. (In fact, by some Hollywood standards, they'd be pairing him off with Sydney.) Also enviably ripped, so I don't think he'd be forced off it on health grounds anytime soon. And dammit, I'd miss that voice. That said, one of the Brand New Day arc's subplots is JJJ getting forced out of the Bugle, so this could be a handover/character retirement movie for him too. And if we can't have any more after this one, at least give the guy a fitting exit. 10 hours ago, Techwright said: Gwen Stacy, MJ, Felicia Hardy...sounds like Spidey is in for a love quadrangle. Pentangle if you count Miles. (Which would be fun relationship-wise if he hooked up with MJ). 10 hours ago, Techwright said: Martin Li/Mr. Negative would be fantastic. Not 100% confirmed. But... The casting call was for a leading Asian male, 30-50. (Thankfully ruling out BTS). Mr. Negative is the most interesting and relatable villain in that arc. The others are a paperthin goth girl, a jokey XZibit pastiche, and a Lizard spin-off (fun, but a lot of CGI and a lot of plot setup to do). Oh and... Spider-Mugger. You can see why a writer would settle on Martin. As mentioned above, Mr. Negative's plan to take over the NYC underworld plays well with bringing in Cox and D'Onofrio... ...but if Pete discovers Martin's Mr. Positive side and his genuine commitment to FEAST, that gives him plenty to chew over morally. So from a writing point of view, very much yes, this is the guy you want. And it's a bit of a lateral, but why not get in Stephen Oyoung - who's already played the role for the Playstation games? (Not to mention being one hell of a stuntman - could give Holland a proper workout.) He's got quite a lot of mid-level credits on TV and is stepping up to movies - it'd be a major step up, but if they took the chance on Holland...
