A Tale of Two Controllers: Fire/Storm/?

Recommended Posts

So I have been playing a Fire/Storm/? character and now that she's 50, I've been using her to farm.  Yes, I know that there are better characters to do it, but I enjoy it and when I have no other teams or content to do I can jump into a +2/8 mission and kill at whatever pace I want adding inf and recipes that way.  Besides, that is one of the few times I can really open up and go to town on some mobs as in most 50 team content stuff is long since dead before I get much out other than a Freezing Rain and maybe a bonfire.

With that said, I like a character that can do a bunch of things.  My current build is okay, but it's horrific on END and doesn't have sustainability without sucking down Blues like they are crack.  That's WITH cardiac as the Alpha slot.

Storm uses a lot of END, with the recharge I have, Fire uses a lot of END.  I had originally based my build off @josh1622's build from the [url  https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,5702.0.html]Fire/Storm[/url] topic.  After tweaking it to my tastes, that's what I am currently running (build below).  I'm not very satisfied with the performance at this point and want to try to reengineer the build to make it more END friendly and still be survivable so I can farm if I want.

Current Build:

Nearly Softcapped S/L and Ranged.

Powers are well slotted in general

WAY to heavy on END

Can solo +2/8 slowly and safely

Earth Epic so Heal and +HP which is huge in Storm

Perma Hasten (by 3 seconds)

Proposed Build:

20-30% defense all around

Softcapped to S/L/F and good to C resists

Much friendlier on END

Fire Epic so a little more AOE damage at the loss of some control

No heal, no Max HP

I'm looking for tips, suggestions, and if you think I should bother switching builds.  I think the resist build can play more aggressive since I won't have to be watching END use all the time.  But that's theory crafting for sure.

Here is the build I currently have:

There are times when you don't see a very obvious answer staring at you in the face.

This is that time.

Thank you, I've reworked to include that and while I give up 20% or so damage between Fireball and Ball lightning, this build has enough damage already if it can get and keep them all out.

...and update.  The build with Mu mastery works SOOOOO much better.  Having that 30 second END reset is a godsend for a build like this.  Before I had to really think about which power to use and if I could afford it.  Now, I don't have to.  I can double up LS and toss tornadoes like they are going out of style.  So yes... if you're building a Fire/Storm, consider the END use.

Final Build:

20-30% defense all around

Softcapped to S/L/E and good (45%) to F/C resists

Much friendlier on END

Slot efficient in that it doesn't use +KB Resit IOs instead uses set bonuses for that.

A END reset every 30 seconds

Perma Hasten

No heal, no Max HP

Kill times on the battle maiden map went from 2 minutes a group to 1 minute a group which is a pretty amazing change.  While I haven't made as many runs, there are no deaths so far at +2/8.  Might be able to do +3/8 but we'll see.

I have a fire/storm/leviathan build on the old forums I liked. Had 3 leadership toggles and the resistance toggle going too.

The alpha was imperative - plus end reducers in some powers like fire cages and hotfeet.

Mu mastery is a good way to do it too - I just really wanted the water spout to go with tornado.

Fire/Storm is an awesome combo. I have also played fire/kin on live and a well played fire/storm can do just as well. They both have pluses.

I would love to do Leviathan, but I think I would run into the same END issues as I did with Earth.  Basically, you're gassed after a few moments of fighting.  So fine if you team content, but bad if you like solo farming.  Did you mostly team?

I might be able to make the build more END efficient but at the cost of either less Recharge or less defense.

Hibernate is similar to Conserve Power in terms of endurance management. That being said, while Hibernate is fantastic for Storm Summoning, it isn't all that hot for Fire (which needs to continuously interact with the world rather than being able to step out for a bit and watch the chaos unfold).

I am starting the patron arcs right now on my rebuilt Fire/Storm. Hard choice Mu or Leviathan. On live I solo'd a lot - this guy was my farm/inf character. More end reducers can do the trick, your right however it is all about choices -- more -end cost is less something else.

I think I will go Mu till at least 50 - I am using generic IO's for the most part till then. When I start my 50 sets project I'll have to decide which way to go.

The only time I would ever end crash after maxing out my Alpha Slot was while teaming - otherwise wasnt really an issue. Then again Fire/Storm can run out of end on Speed Boost or AM.

Everlasting is the server that I am on.

If you mean the Perf shifter and Panacea, yes, I have both of them.  Alone they were not enough to let me cast at will.  It's only been a combination of those, cardiac, and some decent slotting that has.

Still I love the combination and I can farm +3/8 maps if I don't care about speed or +2/8 with reasonable clear times.

Thinking back to live -it has been a while- I also had around 115-120 end, accolades, percent increases from sets and the like all adding together.

End recovery is percent based so the bigger the number the better - of course that takes away from other set bonuses.

It looks "light" on damage to me. Do you use Char with that slotting?

Ball Lightning might benefit from dropping the proc and going instead for the Overwhelming Force End/Recharge.

I play mine as a "mez everything so that you have time to kill at your (relative) leisure". So I have T-Clap, and a purple set in Cinders as well as Chance to Hold procs in Char and Fireblast. With the Fire anc, I have Fire Shield so I'm capped to Fire rez - which is handy for farming (as is having the backup AoE stun when/if Flashfire misses stuff). Fire Blast & Bolt work nicely together. Often it's quicker for me to murder with a fast recycling Fireball than sit through the long animations of both Tornado & Storm (I usually pull one but rarely both in a group at +2/x8). All of that is based on "I have fire" which you don't, so it's probably not relevant.

I also have the support Hybrid which gives more end redux. Yes, Fire/Storm is incredibly end hungry. I empathise & agree with you on that!
