Make a Global Keybind and Macro?

Hi, in a recent thread about global badge awards and the time to log in a load of alts they mentioned a global keybind to fast quit to the Character Select page.

I cannot get the one they mentioned to work so could I get a Keybind to do that please, and is it possible to have a global Macro at all?

I am using the same macro’s on all my alts but am having to make them on every new alt so a global would be great if possible?

The only way to do a "global" keybind is to bind a key and save it to your default keybind file, which will then apply to all new characters you create. It will not retroactively apply to characters already made unless you load the keybind file.

 

There is no way to make a global macro.

You can use a custom.window that will create a window that you can create and store macros in that is there for every toon. It is glitchy and wont always stay where you leave it but it is very handy.

"Macros" is going to be the title of the window; the other numbers are position and size (which you can then alter in game, so they don't matter much). Next time you start the game, this should be in the top left corner:

 

 

I always move mine to the right, above my insp window. It will always reset to the left when you log and you'll have to move it back.

 

 

Now you can click the "New Command" button, and that will make a new "Edit Me" button appear. Right-click it, and you can select "Edit Name" or "Edit Command" in order to customize the buttons to do whatever you want, as long as you can put it in a command.

You can do this just with pop menus that work for all characters  https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Popmenu_(Slash_Command), and you can also use pop menus inside of custom windows.

 

You can also create a text file with the desired macros, and simply use the /bind_Load_File command to load it into the desired character. Ha! No one actually gave you the commands! Sorry. LOL

 

For close to the same reason, I use this bind:

/bind SHIFT+Q "toggle quit"

 

This bind brings up the Quit window with the 3 options to 1) Exit to Login Screen, 2) Exit to Character Select, and 3) Exit to Desktop.

After I bound this I saved it in my keybinds.txt file (Options --> Keymapping tab--> Save as Default keybinds button.). You can use a text editor app like Notepad to edit your keybinds.txt file and save it if you like. Typically located in C:\Games\Homecoming\Settings\Live\

 

I found that merely quitting to character select was not good enough for all of my needs. Also popping up the Quit window saves a ton of time! There's no way to make the actual quitting process any faster. After you've pressed the Exit to Character Select button or issued the quit command, how long it actually takes to get to that Character Select screen is somewhat random (depending on the server load at that particular time of the day). 

 

If all you really want to do is Exit to the Character Select Screen, use this bind:

/bind SHIFT+Q "quittocharacterselect"

 

Like any bind, you can put it on any key or mouse button.

 

To make it a macro button that you click on, you'd type:

/Macro Alt "quittocharacterselect"

Hi Hero, thanks so much for your brilliant response 👍

You have given me exactly the info I needed and it is very much appreciated.

I will be using the fast macro version to get to the character selection as I (like so many others lol) have too many alts a lot of which are at lower levels and I like to make sure they are never in danger of getting the rename hammer.

Another way is to type #q hash is a short-cut to the main menu, q is the quit option, then select character selection from the menu.
