Billbailey96 Posted Monday at 07:48 PM Posted Monday at 07:48 PM One of the things I enjoy most about gaming as a culture is the number of self-made challenge modes people make for the games they like. It could be things like speed running, Iron-man runs, or more esoteric things like Nuzlok runs in a Pokemon game. What sort of challenges do you think could be done in CoH? Ironman runs are certainly possible. I would say that two versions of this are possible. In either version going to the hospital is an instant fail. In the first version any time you die thats the end. The other is more forgiving allowing for Rezs from inspirations, powers, or team mates. 1

I think in this game, an Ironman run is "play as a controller, but you only get to use powers from the power pools and brawl" (This started pre-City of Villains, it might have been changed to play as a Mastermind) There's also "Only use what drops" "Only use Single Origin Enhancements" "Only use Dual Origin Enhancements" "Only use Training Origin Enhancements" "No Inspirations" Edit: I suppose there are also the even harder challenges, like "No travel powers other than sprint" "No using the tram" "No using Ouroboros to travel" Edited Monday at 08:44 PM by Major_Decoy 1
The Trouble Posted Monday at 09:41 PM Posted Monday at 09:41 PM I have a petless Mastermind that I only level from street sweeping - no missions, task forces, or trials. I can only equip enhancements I find. Not doing the Ironman/Hardcore thing because my insanity has a limit. It's fun in a completely ridiculous way. The other challenge that I'm utterly failing at is to have no more than 50 characters on my primary server. 1
Ukase Posted Tuesday at 03:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:46 PM My favorite is the drops only/no defeats challenge. It really doesn't matter what AT. They all suffer. There's no teaming. I say this because if you're doing this challenge, and I'm not, I don't want to carry your gimp character. To team when doing this challenge would be rude. To team with others doing this challenge would be interesting, but ultimately a lot easier than doing it solo. Without exception, they all bottleneck in the teens because end mods do not drop, except in a 1 in 75 chance. So, how is a blaster supposed to repeatedly attack when his endurance goes out so quickly? If you make it 20 and get the sustain - you might be okay. But you have to get there. I've done rad/dark defender - which was my best effort because of AM being available at level 4. The dark/dark was cool too, because the snipe is available so early. But missing..that sucks. And when I'd get a kismet def/end recipe drop, and only have 2 converters, and couldn't buy the rest from the AH because the merit vendor is forbidden...that really hurts. I'd spend 20-30 minutes in perez park trying to kill as many as I could in hopes of picking some more converters up, just to try and use them on this recipe. But - even then, I'd need a specific rare salvage. And I can't use AE, either. (If I could, it would be too easy) And of course, if you get defeated, you get deleted. And there's no real harm done, because there's nothing of value on the character anyway. Although I would take the merits and salvage earned and liquidate everything for my other alts to use. 1
