Quasar Seraph Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) I am suggesting at least one "spear" model be added to the game for use in at least the Broad Sword, Titan Weapons, and Staff Fighting powersets. Ideally we would get multiple models with variations in size and blades or even halberds. I am NOT asking for a new powerset because I think these models can fit easily into the animations of Broad Sword, Titan Weapons, and Staff Fighting. The hole this fills is the power fantasy of an armored spear wielder, where no powerset has models close to a spear besides Staff Fighting (and if you're anything like me the first time you see your hero in armor start rolling on the ground during the Eye of the Storm animation you scrap the idea altogether.) A secondary request is to add an alternative Eye of the Storm animation where you remain standing. Throw your spears. Edited 20 hours ago by Quasar Seraph Changed "requesting" to "suggesting"
Rudra Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Spears have been requested additions for a while. ... ... I do have a question though... why Broadsword? Sure, there are one-handed spear techniques, but they aren't close to sword techniques. 1

You don't like your huge model, war-god themed characters with wings breakdancing? 1 The D Squad Arc ID: 68066 Content for Ex-criminals following Blue Spectrum and Officer Daniels after Galaxy City These Ain't Your Daddy's Skulls! Sakura Tenshi Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Kind of bugs me because shadow Hunter and i think some animus arcana actually do have spears for staffs but, sadly, due to how this game works I feel like even if an NPC uses the exact same attack animations and all that as the player, them having a unique weapon model does not mean it’ll translate to players. 1

It seems like of the one handed weapons it has the animations that would translate best (definitely not perfect) without it's own dedicated Spear powerset. A spear and shield is too classic to pass up. The spear head would need to be big enough to make it work with the slashing animations. Titan Weapons has Rend Armor at least and big spear-like movements. 1

Sakura Tenshi Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago My issue with spears being a customization for Broadsword is just that the only thrust attack Broadsword even gets is for Stalkers.

That's my main concern too. The lack of thrust attacks for a thrusting weapon. (Edit: Not that short spear would be any better for Broadsword, but at least the grip would be similar.) I should probably clarify that when I suggested Broad Sword I did not imagine the character holding the spear all the way at the base. I imagine about a 2 ft blade, 5 ft staff/pole, and the character holding the spear halfway down the entire length. Hacking and slashing with that wouldn't look strange, I'd imagine. With the animations involved? I feel it would look extremely weird. Remember, when holding a spear that far up in one hand, your hand position is nothing like on a sword. Because the back of the spear would run along your forearm, your wrist is twisted down so the point of the spear is forward. Because the only part of the spear that is actually used in a one-handed manner is the blade, and hitting an enemy with the shaft is going to do more than annoy the enemy while possibly costing you the fight. As opposed to a sword where the wrist sits in a more natural position holding the hilt and can be positioned for a wide variety of maneuvers/techniques. At least with a short spear, since it is basically just a pointy stick the length of some swords, that grip works for the animations because you don't have to deal with the back half of the spear hitting you in odd and painful ways as you fight. Or in the case of the game, clipping through your body in possibly horrific visuals. (Edit: And a TWO FOOT blade?! That isn't a spear. Now you are in naginata and glaive territory.) I'm all for a short spear. I guess my generally suggestion is for polearms, whether that's spears, glaives, halberds or short spears. Big polearms for Titan Weapons, typical spears for Staff Fighting, and shorter polearms for Broad Sword.
arcane Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I can see a spear fitting with *some* Staff and TW animations. I think some of those powers even would need new animations to make any sense for a Spear. A new set might just be for the best.

I just double checked to make sure with Titan Weapons specifically, and the Titan Sweep and Follow Through animations would have some pretty significant clipping (the sword I had equipped was clipping already anyways on these). But everything else would look very natural. Rend Armor, Whirling Smash, and Arc animations would look fantastic with a giant spear.
