While glad for the recognition, I find her statement curious.  Were one a first-time learner of the game's extended history, they might think there was nothing of CoH between 2019 and 2024.   Instead, the game was flourishing under Homecoming, and still had a presence on other fan-run servers.

Very true, they didn't nail all the details unfortunately. I'll forgive it in exchange for the exposure. WC Gaming has 1.7 million subs so hopefully a handful of folks just learned that CoH is still going strong and are downloading the Launcher as we speak!

Sounds like they're conflating events. In 2019, the secret server was revealed, a free server ran for like 3 days, and got shut down by a legal threat. I don't know who was running it, but apparently the legal threat was a hoax that thoroughly spooked them so they shut it down. Homecoming started up like 5 days later. Seems like WhatCulture confused HC getting the official license with them starting up.

If I remember correctly, HC started up 4/24/2019 with the Torchbearer Server(I have several characters with that start date).

 

It was SO busy it crashed a lot, so many players logging in and out to grab names, then by like the 3rd day they shut down to sort everything else, and came back up with the other servers a day or more later(?). I think Reunion was a week or two after that. I was REALLY lucky to have been searching for CoH stuff that week, and read about the secret server, got really mad at first because I wasn't in on it those 7 years, then realized the true gift that it was when they announced code release.
