It's overall more for fantasy of using a whip in combat with cool animations is main reason suggesting it. Just as an advanced note, I am new to the game and so may not know all the dynamics between all power sets or whether there is a niche which whip could fill, or what debuffs, if anything, it could provide.

But I myself lean towards it just sake of theme/logic, that whip user would have a wide range/longer reaching melee attacks. The only whip I have experienced is from a mastermind with demon summoning, but this is more of a normal whip than a magical power-granted one. Also, it could have several quick attacks, not necessarily high dmg, but could have 'bleed' dot dmg on foes struck and maybe some 'stuns' created by shock/pain of whip strike or such?

Overall, fast, low dmg (but dot dmg), reach, quite a bit of melee control is what I am thinking, but not sure is there power set like that already. But as said, more fantasy in mind, I suggest it cause I feel not experienced enough to suggest any solid mechanics besides what surface glance seen from other powers.

Yeah, it have been suggested a lot as Rudra pointed out.

From what I experienced with my Demon Summoning Mastermind, it deals Fire damage with Poison DoT.

I can imagine the Whip Power Set starts with Smash damage and Lethal DoT, but can be embued with three different “modes” that changes damage type and secondary effect akin to Staff Fighting and Dual Pistols, or even mutually exclusive powers that serves as a single alternative mode. With Demon Summoning’s Fire damage and Toxic DoT being one of them, of course.

The OG devs explained that getting the whip part of Demon Summoning was a grade A pain in the arse . ..  which is why for the life of the game on live they didn't go further with whips. I can image HC would like to do this powerset, but with how many times whips have been suggested and it still hasn't been done .  . . I'm going to assume HC has not found it any easier than Paragon Studios to make a whip powerset.

But as always hope for the future.

Ah, I see it has been suggested a lot. My main guess is that the issue is perhaps with the animation and rigging of the models in the game files. Would need full dedication to work on making a workable rig, followed by animation itself to be consistent and trigger the impact effects in the right timing.

Would be nice if a GM or developer were to explain the issue, instead of us doing wild ass guesses to support the negativity...

You mean like they did back on Live when the devs announced they were changing the attempted whip set to Demon Mastery?

Why?

So they can be argued with and told they are lying and just won’t “give us what we want”?

Perhaps as a ranged AT. I don't see a taunter that attacks from a distance as being particularly practical; at least for -my- play style.

Well, it's not meant as a huge reach but longer than other melee attacks. It could have attacks that snare/pull enemies to you as well. But true, not all would jump to try it on nor fit their preferred style. But overall, tankers, brutes, and scrappers share the same melee power sets (at least what I saw in a glance).

I would think, despite it all, it would be more authoritative than the whole lot of us put together

But at least its coming from someone that would pass as authoritative in the subject, be good bad or indifferent

You’re right, but my guess is it won’t happen.

If they comment on one suggestion, they’ll be expected to comment on all the suggestions.

At which point they will have become customer service reps instead of Devs.

Of course at that point, they could copy and paste the following in every suggestion thread….

”Sorry, there is no more development because all our time is spent explaining to the masses why their suggestions will never happen.  Have a wonderful day!”

It already came from someone authoritative. From the devs back on Live. When they flat out told us the game engine didn't let them make a proper whip set, so the attempted set was rolled into Demon Mastery instead. Just because you are hearing it now from players instead of devs does not make the information invalid.

Never said it was not valid, but a fresh description by a dev proper would be preferable

Why? We are on the exact same engine the game was on when the Live devs said it. Why do you need to have a current dev hold your hand and tell you what was already stated? If something had changed and the information we players have is no longer valid, then sure, I can understand the desire for a dev to pop on and give updated information. If nothing has changed, like the game engine and its inability to facilitate whip effects, then why the desire to have a dev pop in to say what has already been said?

I'm all for it with the caveat that it only gets released when we get this hat as well.
