Tactic21 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Where to play? probably prefer a RP server. How's the content specifically farming etc? Mission architect could be awesome but im looking for somewhere where it's not the only way to play. Not fussed about PvP most likely. If Architect is used as it was intended that could go a long way to creating interesting content. Can i jump server as much as i want? is it easy or is there anything i need to do carefully? Will have more questions soon. AGAIN Incredible!!! 3 2
Marine X Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Welcome Everlasting is the Unofficial RP Server and Excelsior has the largest population followed by Torchbearer. Reunion is located in Germany if you are in Europe, all the others are in Canada. Victory and Indomitable are lower population if you want a quieter experience. Brainstorm is the Open Beta server. You can have characters on any server and limited server transfers are available if you chose to relocate. You may lose your Name if it has already been taken on the destination server. Have fun Be sure to check out the START Vendor in Atlas Plaza just west of the Atlas Statue Platform, lots of good freebies, buffs, enhancements and temporary powers available there. 2 " When it's too tough for everyone else, it's just right for me..." Forager Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Marine X covered the server choice question very well. Everlasting is where all the cat-girls are. You get 5 server swap tokens and I think they replenish every week. AE is mostly used for farming, but some people make Story-Focused Mission Arcs. You can search SFMA in the AE interface and find a lot of posts about them in the AE subforum. Oh... and welcome home. srmalloy Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago 2 hours ago, Tactic21 said: limited transfers? You've got 1000 character slots per server; the limit on transfers is to manage people making wholesale moves of characters between servers — you just have to take longer and wait for the transfer pool to refresh so you can do another group.
UltraAlt Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 7 hours ago, Tactic21 said: Where to play? probably prefer a RP server. As stated, Everlasting would be the way to go for RP. It wasn't entirely clear in another post; the highest population servers are (from highest to lowest) Excelsior, Everlasting, and Torchbearer. The first two tend to have much higer populations that Torchbearer. 7 hours ago, Tactic21 said: How's the content specifically farming etc? If Architect is used as it was intended that could go a long way to creating interesting content. If you want to farm, I would go to Excelsior as it has the highest population and you will be most likely to find a Farm that will accept doorsitters there. [I don't condone farming. I think it is a bane to the CoH community in general. My own opinion.] There is a small but active group that make non-Farming missions arcs for the AE - that is to say, using for what the AE was intended to be ... players creating mission arcs that they would enjoy playing and providing the for other players to enjoy as well. And, obviously, these "story" missions are buried by Farming missions. The most PvP that goes on in Homecoming happens in the /ah. Otherwise, PvP appears to be pretty rare at this point and mostly on the weekends. After all this is said, I would suggest to playing the game before going to stay in the end-game. 7 hours ago, Tactic21 said: Can i jump server as much as i want? is it easy or is there anything i need to do carefully? It depends on what "as much as you want" means to you. There is a limit on how often you can transfer characters. Every time you switch characters to another server, there is a chance that your character will have to be renamed. The higher the population of the server that you transfer to, the more likely that the name will already be taken on that server. If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
Lyte Stryke Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Welcome home! Most farmers use AE, especially when farming with friends, but I like using Oro content to also get reward merits. I recommend making a character on each server you are considering just to get on and experience it, rather than transferring your toon. Leveling is fairly easy and you may prefer to even capture the same name on multiple servers. the only other thing I might add is that even the "quiet" servers have great communities in terms of being helpful and having lots of regular daily group activities. 1
Xalon Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Welcome! There is honestly no point in joining any server other than Excelsior because it has everything - RPers, PVPers and everyone else. Maybe if you have a different time zone than another server might be better, but none of them come close to how many players are on Excelsior. The PVPers are there, but you should reach out on PVP forums to find others. Sometimes you can find them online depending where you go and which channels you ask on. But it's maybe like 5% of the playerbase, if even that much. AE has a TON of content, though stick with the higher rated missions as they are the most complete. But for REAL content, you have tons of story arcs and missions and repeatable missions, as well as dozens of trials, taskforces, strikeforces and raids. You will have years of content just playing one character and if you make alts and play a Hero, Villain and Praetorian, you will never get bored. You can also become a vigilante or rogue, which opens up some special story arcs as well. Ease yourself back into things and check on the wiki for "what has changed" (link below) and it gives a nice outline of everything added or changed since GR ended. WELCOME BACK! MTeague Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago If it matters to you, Everlasting has an outsized share of Redsiders. Redside was typically dead when I used to play on Excelsior. I could go entire evenings without seeing another player. There's still not a thriving metropolis in the Rogue Isles on Everlasting, but neither does it feel like you're stationed in Antarctica. .
lemming Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Everlasting is busy, but not too busy and has a good group of people leading trials and other stuff. (So does Excel) The other servers are lower population, but have some other benefits. Indom has a nightly GM hunt for instance.
