New Story Arcs

Death Resurrected - Wylie Galloway (Level 40-50)

"Wylie Galloway is an eccentric archivist for the Midnighters who is highly concerned about the numerous relics being traded throughout Kallisti Wharf. When he sends you to break up a Warriors relic auction, you discover the Skulls are strangely invested in buying magical weapons.

Why are the Skulls so interested in these artifacts, when before they never seemed to have much to do with the trade? And how did the Skulls gain so much power in the first place?"

Two minor known bugs:

1. There is a mission which sends you to the Rogue Isles via a warehouse door; this will be updated to use one of the new submarine mission doors

2. There is a reference to Back Alley Brawler sending a group of heroes to take down Veles when it is actually the New Regulators that did so.

Just wanted to drop a note to say that I love Galloway's odd stressing of words.

There are some text blocks though where the formatting is slightly off as to where words get split.

Not sure how long the HC forums were down, but while I was doing this arc, the forums had a bad gateway, so I couldn't report the way I normally do. But, I basically did the arc and wrote my comments in MS word. I'm just going to cut and paste it, and hope it copies well enough where I won't have to clean it up too much.

Wylie Galloway – Story arc feedback

Mission 1 – auto-completed. I won’t do street hunts. They’re useless, pointless. May as well send my character to the bar in Striga and ask a barmaid what’s going on.
I was tempted to just log off and do something on Excelsior. A street hunt? This is a horrible way to start a new arc in my opinion. If I wanted to street hunt, why would I speak with a contact?

A bad beginning often makes for a bad ending. Just remove this, as it’s just busy work and pointless. Did I mention street hunts have no place in any kind of story arc? It’s never a good idea. (In my opinion)

Mission 2 – seems to be another easy mission to speed through, fine by me. Adrastus speaks of a Periapt of Protection being sold to a ninja. I'd expected a tie in with the Tsoo, not the Skulls. Unless it's foreshadowing something in the future, maybe the comment should allude more to a skull, rather than a ninja.

Mission 3 – I love the map. Regarding the mission objectives, not at all a concern, but when there’s one bookshelf left to check, it updates to “bookshelf to check” instead of  ”1 bookshelf to check”.  Looks weird.

Mission 4 – When the ambush begins, prior to Hematoma coming out, he says “I’ll have to handle this myself”. But he doesn’t come out until the wave after his dialogue. By design? Not a big deal, just an observation.

Mission 5 – Seriously? Another street hunt? Not gonna do it. See my comments about street hunts in Mission 1.

Mission 6 – “ No one holds a ritual so they can bind their pet cat's soul to the world. Ok, well, aside from that one time, but the Skulls do not strike me as animal lovers”
Some humor, nice! Almost makes up for 2 useless street hunts.

Marrow Drinker – nice name. I was hoping for some new kind of map, but same ol', same ol'.

Mission 7 – This is probably my fault for reading too much into my exchange with Wylie. I was expecting a non-hostile, and had to use a target macro to find him. And he was a hostile, who then turned friendly after one shot. Maybe touch up the dialogue from Wylie so we’re not looking for a non-hostile? Not a real big deal because the map was small, thankfully.

Mission 8 – interesting mission. A glowie hunt in a portion of Port Oakes. I was concerned I was going to have to trap some ghosts!

Mission 9 – This seems like a repeat of mission 6. Same map. Soul Drinker? Related to Marrow Drinker, I’m sure. Brothers from a different mother? Or the same mother? Well – certainly not the same ending as mission 6, thankfully.
I found the Undertaker’s last comment interesting. And it was fun to have the bosses all pour out of the portal (even if they just appeared 20 feet away from the portal, it seemed like that’s where they would have come from.)

I should add, I clicked on the portal to destroy it – and I was surprised to discover I had options.  I clicked something, I don't recall what, the psychopomp came out and we had the dialogue.
I found it odd that I would ask the question “Why are you telling me this?”

It seems like a stupid question. I just asked them a question, they answer me and I’m going to ask that? It just doesn’t seem like a question any sane person would ask.

Overall, I liked the arc, but because of the street hunts, once I get the badge, I'll never do it again.

If you have notes on where the splits are broken, that'd be appreciated. Due to the way the emphasis works, it won't wrap automatically so I had to manually insert the hyphens and there may be a few cases where it throws things off.

Thank you for the feedback. Street sweeps are a part of the game and I think they are useful here for narrative purposes. I'm not planning to use them much in the future, though, so feedback noted there.

On the "Why are you telling me this?" question, the question is supposed to imply something like, "Wait a second, why are you just telling me all the information I want to know without me really having to force it out of you? This seems suspicious to me." And the answer is basically, "Because you won't live long enough to make use of it." I might try tweaking that dialog a bit to make this more clear, but there is a limit to the length an answer can be before it cuts off in the middle of the sentence because of UI constraints.

I genuinely appreciate your taking the time to reply. Try to keep in mind I'm far more obtuse than your typical player. Sad but true. I should have figured that part out myself.

Doing a quick go through, looking for typos/dialogue errors (plain text, because copy-pasting breaks accented characters and ignores italics):

Mission one's sendoff has:

perhaps you can learn more about where they're k

eeping a large stash. That would be very useful indeed. Hmm?

After completing the street sweep:

But what was this about a we

apons sale?

Mission 3, 'Stop the archive breakin' (should be 'break in' or 'break-in'):

From the intro:

I figured they had fallen apart, the only ones left old stragg

lers with no direction or purpose.

From the sendoff:

Take this rune, it will keep the protect

ive magics from affecting you.

From the entrance text:

'A tingle passes through you as you cross across the entrance's protective wards' - there's no period at the end of the sentence.

Skull dialogue in mission:

'Death Head Slammer: Not everyone of us needs to be all 'Oooh, death, scary gloomy goth' to appreciate Morana's power.' 'Everyone' should be 'every one'.

Mission 4 'Recover stolen tomes' intro has:

Sure, they had powers which drew upon negative en

er-gy

and

just in the event someone absolutely foolish steals them! Rank am

at-eurs, didn't even try to dispel

Mission 5 street sweep intro:

speaking of Morana as some sort of "death in

carnate". Clearly, they have progressed

Mission 6 'Interrupt Skulls binding ritual'

Entrance:

'The air in this graveyard is several degrees colder than outside its gates' is missing a period at the end.

Mission 8 'Recover a Spirit Trap' intro:

Arachnos have de

veloped traps to capture the ghosts

I didn't go through all of Sertrakis or the Psychopomp's dialogue branches, but didn't immediately spot anything needing corrections in the options I chose.

Another minor issue is the mission accept text: half the time, there's no punctuation at the end but I'm not sure if that's intentional or a deliberate choice.

I think the instances of incorrectly placed hyphens in certain line breaks might have been due to character name length, but couldn't say for sure.

I realized why certain hyphens were after the linebreaks; my UI is scaled up, which shifted the text. So what I posted yesterday regarding broken words isn't necessarily where other people would see them, making it somewhat unhelpful. Apologies if you've already made alterations based on it.

Due to this realization, I redid the arc with UI at 100% to see what I miscorrected. This is from Wylie's dialogue after the patch today:

Mission 1 'Retrieve Artifacts'  intro:

In Ouroboros:

armed to the teeth with all sort of ancient ré
lics. The gall of them,

Normal intro:

Just because a sword is magi-cal

doesn't mean you should use it to

No linebreak on the hyphen, but easily chalked up to just another oddity in how the character talks. Previously mentioned broken words not present at default scales.

Mission 2:

Unnecessary consultation:

The last thing we need is someone even less experienced with ar
tifacts to purchase the Warriors' weapons.

Return:

Ah, look at this! A lekythos with fun
éra-ry markings on it.

Mission 3 intro:

I figured they had fallen apart, the only ones left old stragg

lers with no direction or purpose.

Sendoff:

Take this rune, it will keep the protect

ive magics from affecting you.

Same broken words here as previously.

Mission 4's intro has the same breaking on 'en er-gy' and 'am at-eurs' at 100%

Mission 5 intro:

"Death incarnate" doesn't wrap around at 100%, so that can be ignored from my previous post.

Sendoff:

One of them is likély going to try sho
wing bravado and tell you something useful

Mission 8 doesn't break 'developed traps' at default scale, so that can also be ignored.

Mission 9

Intro:

you should be able to get the

psy-chopomp to talk.

Sendoff:

Regardléss of anything, I would pré
pare for a fight.

Conclusion:

The information that psychopomp gave you is incréibly dis
turbing. Dissension in the ranks

and

electrons are arguing if they should keep car
rying éléctric charge or not.

Logged in alts that didn't get the badge, badge did not auto reward to them for having already completed the arc.   Ran the arc again via Ouro, badge awarded upon completion with revised artwork. 🙂
