Psyonico Posted Tuesday at 07:13 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:13 PM Hi all, This is a little pet project i've been working on. Essentially, it abuses the fact that a bind file can be used for more than just binds. I'm using it to target "high priority" targets, Sappers, Immunes Surgeons, etc. I have the attached file in a folder called Binds in my main HC directory, I specifically put it in this folder so that I can use the same file for Live and Beta servers. once that file is saved, run the following command on each character you want to use it for (you only need to do this once per character). /bind c bindloadfilesilent c:binds\Targets.txt$$bind v targetenemynear Note: The c:binds tells HC's parser to use the root Homecoming directory (assuming the directory is on your c drive) and not your root c drive. if it were C:\binds it would be looking for binds inside your root C directory. So, I then use the "c" button to target closest enemy, or highest priority target if there is one. If the high priorty target happens to be in the next spawn over, I just just "v" to target the nearest enemy instead. If you wish to edit the list, make sure you follow the syntax that's in there, higher priority targets go lower on the list (hence why Cairn is lower than other eminators). Hope this helps some of you, I know it has been a game changer for me. Targets.txt 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
COH Radgen Posted Tuesday at 07:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:50 PM That can be handy for lots of folks, @Psyonico! I use a unique bind file for each alt and everyone one of them includes the following: V "targetenemynext$$targetcustomnext enemy alive sapper$$targetcustomnext enemy alive quantum$$targetcustomnext enemy alive void$$targetcustomnext enemy alive cyst" shift+v beginchat /bind v target_custom_next enemy alive So just hitting the v key will target the next alive cyst, then void, then quantum, then sapper. In that situation, pretty similar to what you use with your file, although you have quite a few additional target enemies. The key for me is if I hit shift+v it opens the chat window and prefills the info to bind v to a new targetcustomnext enemy alive, then a space, then I can type in whatever I want or need. So shift+v then type in surgeon and I can target surgeons. Shift+v again and type in general and I can target generals, etc, etc, etc, for whatever mission or enemy type is appropriate. If I don't find one of my special enemy I can tab for next enemy or T for near enemy. Thanks for posting your method and hopefully, between the two options, people will find a good way to target their most hated foes! @Radgen On Torch and Excelsior
Jacke Posted Wednesday at 07:14 AM Posted Wednesday at 07:14 AM The benefit to this method is that it's not one single command line that has a upper length of 254 (or 255?)) characters. It uses a side effect of loading a bind file. The first part is added to a created bind, the standard operation (not having that bit causes the error message). And the rest of the line is handled too, the side effect that moves the targeting. As many lines as wanted can be used. The last one that effectively moves the target is the one that takes effect. It works similar to the way the different parts of one line work between the "$$". But its nature means it can be longer. I limit myself to that bound to TAB and a simple bind on TILDE, as well as T bound to "targetenemynear", to do the targeting. It's very easy to make things too complex. Remember! Jacktar Posted Wednesday at 09:49 AM Posted Wednesday at 09:49 AM I use a similiar bind to avoid those horrid Coffee Creams in the christmas chocolate boxes. (Other horrid flavours are available for avoidance with a rolling bind!) 🎅🏻🎅🏻🥴

I grabbed a list from @Jacke of targets, but some had to be trimmed down so much to be under the limit that I would get false positives. 1 What this team needs is more Defenders

I've always been led to believe that targeting false positives is considered to be cheating! 🤣 I do like this idea a lot but how do I customise it to meet my own needs? Can it be designed per character or is it a global bind? I learned early on that chemistry is just like cooking. From there I worked out that a mixture of Barium, Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen between two slices of bread gives you a delicious BaCON sandwich
Psyonico Posted Thursday at 03:27 PM Author Posted Thursday at 03:27 PM I use it globally, if you wanted specifics for specific characters, you'd have to create separate files for each character and then /bindloadfilesilent the correct name. The nice thing about the global is, if you ever make a change to the file it automatically updates for all characters, since they're just loading a file. 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
RandoHero Posted Thursday at 06:43 PM Posted Thursday at 06:43 PM Thanks for sharing, definitely going to use it! Somewhat related question that's been on my mind. Is it possible to target by rank so that highest ranking mob in a group can quickly be identified? Can't come up with a great character concept origin story, and design? Can you give me the exact syntax for that please? Would it be /bindloadfilesilent Scarlet Shocker or would it have underscores, special characters or somesuch? Also why the "silent" there? KnightOwl - Pinnacle Posted Friday at 11:38 AM Posted Friday at 11:38 AM /bind_load_file_silent path The path can be relative (/bindloadfilesilent bind_folder\bind_file.txt) or absolute (/bindloadfilesilent c:\binds\bind_file.txt). Unlike /bindloadfile, this will not show a confirmation in the chat tabs This is from the wiki. 1 Originally on Pinnacle. 🎵"But when he tried the Steak Soft Taco, all of a sudden he knew -- that he'd always be indebted for the rest of life to the woman with the rose tattoo."🎵
Digirium Posted Friday at 11:39 AM Posted Friday at 11:39 AM I use Q, W and E keys for targeting with a PopMenu to reload what the W key targets. Q is for "dangerous" targets that always need taking down as a primary. W changes according to need e.g. task force or a specific target to find. It can also be linked to a slot to be executed and a target manually edited in to the slot. E is just target nearest.

I suspect that if you have a space, the name would need to be in quotation marks, so /bindloadfilesilent "Scarlet Shocker.txt" Note though, without the c:binds\ the file would need to be in the \settings\live folder. If you just use /bindloadfile you'll get text in one of your chat tabs every time you hit the key. 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
