Ultimate Support/Control Bane

Recommended Posts

I really liked Prototelis' support build from this thread:

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,2781.0.html

This is so good I thought it deserved it's own thread.  I've made some changes to make it even more support dropping the mace pool to pick up wide area web grenade (area -50% recharge!?!) and web cocoon (another -50% recharge?! with a hold! stack them and that's past the -recharge cap), and dropped the pool tactics. I'm still contemplating if Placate is worth it, as it only allows an extra 50% damage from one bane attack, when you could just do another attack instead and do more damage than that it appears?  Possibly picking up hasten instead or something else?

I am wondering if I went overkill on the support/controll, on the other hand I was also thinking about making a really complete support bane, with only bash and venom grenade for attacks, dropping the fighting pool, and taking vengeance and victory rush among other things.

I'll post the build in a reply.

Maybe on a single target "nuke" power that has a slow recharge on it ... but otherwise, for the same amount of time involved you're better off doing 1+1=2 instead of 0.5+1=1.5 really ...

Here's the cheaper build with the same slots until I can afford the really expensive stuff in there.  I've got this build done, it's not softcapped on positionals, but is on s/l and has slightly higher s/l resists.

Not enough room in this post to give my full report, will post more after

I ran a couple +4 ITFs with it and didn't die (others did) I also ran a synapse and since I'd got everything except the basic ios attuned I was pretty much able to solo groups even at 20, though it could use more aoe for that.  It's hard to tell just how much you're contributing with a bane support wise, WAWG probably wasn't really needed, every group I was in had some other -recharge, and as I'd mentioned placate is questionable, and I never even saw Web Coccon do anything even though I used it. Placate wasn't available on the level 20, but on the 50 I didn't even have time to get all my attacks off, probably due to all the +recharge from kins or whatnot, I'm getting better at working it in, but oft times things were dead by the time my placate + crowd control or shatter were landing  I'm tempted to trade out either or both of placate and pulverize out for aoe and/or ranged as I felt a bit lacking with both of those compared to my leveling build, I resorted to using plasmatic taser temp power for more aoe when I was at 20, but needed more.  The pets aren't lasting long at +4 often, but can still be handy.  I'm still considering haste, but not sure it would do anything for me.

I probably need to try some soloing with this to better see how it performs, even though it wasn't intended to solo I'm curious how it performs as it feels extremely sturdy.

I found the problem with WAWG, it doesn't have enough accuracy, and is missing almost half the time at +4.  It also needs more immob duration as it wears off too quick on +4s.  I can't really tell if the -rech is working, and unless I'm soloing it doesn't feel like I need it for the -rech anyway.  I don't have the slots to pull from anything else though, so it might be better to drop it for a better one slot wonder.

I'm incarnated with at least T3s and T2s in everything now.  I took Alpha: Cardiac as end drops a bit much, and with that I'm considering putting in tactics somewhere (which may save WAWG?)  With Cardiac I can run all my toggles and even ninja run and stealth without needing any blues, I'm thinking I might want to switch out with Musc and the other buff click that gives end.  I took Knives for Lore, but the damage pet dies quickly to stuff that even my Call Reinforcements don't, so am thinking of switching to something else but not sure what's sturdy.  I took ION for Judgement since I thought maybe I could stack the hold with WE - but it usually kills or almost kills everything, and I haven't really gotten any use out of WE.  I took the dam -resist proc and heal for whichever those are from, but apperantly there's reports the dam/-res proc isn't working right, the heal is nice.

I did some soloing.  The wall in Cim is laughably easy.  I can do +4x8 s/l farms with the occasional inspiration, but it's fairly slow.   I think this bane may be tougher than my rad brute!  I don't even remember the last time I died.    Obviously damage is lower.  With all that I haven't felt the need to go with the more expensive build I started with and am still sitting with the cheap build.

I've been getting better hang of placate, and it does seem valuable, I've found it's usually more useful to follow with (double) build up and crowd control rather than shatter, even though it's only 50% chance of 50% multiplicative extra damage, so it can do a lot of extra area damage when all those are up, which I'm otherwise lacking.

I'm currently thinking of dropping pulverize for haste, which will make the bigger attacks & build up cycle faster.  I'm also considering dropping the Pets, WE and WAWG (though I was really happy to have a -fly yesterday for Market Crash for the flying things) for some of tactics, vengeance, frag grenade, heavy burst, or school of sharks and arctic breath.  I'm thinking FG slotted with KB-KD might actually be better than WAWG for mitigation coupled with more damage, which I feel is what's I'm really lacking, or getting more self & group damage with a bit of control through leviathan mastery.   I'm also thinking of trading out bash for single shot as it's faster, and as I often want a quick shot at a runner, and bash is rarely used.  Still it's working pretty well as is so I'm not feeling a great need to change anything other than just a general want to fine tune.  Any thoughts on these ideas for changes?

Update on this build,

I tried just taking out the def/end/rech kismet in cloaking device and replacing it with a +6 accuracy, and replacing the lethal proc with an accuracy/immob in WAWG, that worked much better, getting some holds and hitting most enemies most of the time now, and the immob lasting longer than a second.

Then I decided to try dropping Placate, Shatter (lower dpa and long wind-up that often hits after things already dead vs. Pulverize) and WAWG.  I replaced them with hasten, and the leviathan mastery power school of sharks and artic breath.   5 slots frozen blast in SoS to maintain AoE positional softcap, 2 in hasten and AB, and 5 slots in Call Reinforcements to slot Expedient & a rech io.

This feels much better, I can basically hit VG, AB, SoS and repeat while hasten is up when there's a lot of mobs from range, or get close and mix in Crowd Control, or I can go full melee and do Pulverize, Crowd Control, bash and repeat, tossing off build-up and surveillance as they're up.   I've been playing with that for about a week, and it feels far faster and much better.  I don't really find myself using SoS much as VG is up shortly after AB is finished, kinda wish I could just get AB by itself.

I don't miss Placate or Shatter at all, both just felt like they were slowing me down before.

WAWG I miss a bit, as if I exemplar much and SoS/AB (which mostly replace WAWG except for the -fly but add more damage and -resist) aren't available, the spider-bots do have WAWG (I think) though, so they can do that when I still have them, but that's still fairly late.  WAWG hasn't been all that useful, but I did run I think it was silver mantis with 2 guildmates and no one else and it was really helpful then for the -rech.

I'd really like to try out bile spray, but not sure what to drop, I was considering dropping web envelope, but I did a LGTF where having the hold was invaluable against Hammy, and I'm reluctant to drop it now.  I know I was considering dropping the pets, but they're really useful on BAF and any time I'm doing +0 to about +2 content.  (On the other hand I might just finally make a crabbermind build for that one since I've got all my enhancements on bane side) I was doing +0/x8 Dark Astoria solo and they were great there, they still died fairly often, but once they were still up when the button had refreshed!  I suppose I could drop leadership assault, but I like knowing by just hanging around teammates are doing more damage, they still would be, just not quite as much, but that's still a change from support to (possible) DPS which wasn't my intention with this build.

All ATOs, Purples etc. are now slotted as well.   I can't say anything with S/L ever feels the least bit threatening, I'm thinking I might switch some of the resist bonuses for that out for other types of resistances instead if possible without losing defense.  I have died a few times now, like 3-4 times against hammy, and a few times on other iTrials, I didn't check to see if I could tell exactly kind of damage killed me though.  Usually if I die once I'm going to die again and again, as whatever it is I'm not resistant enough to (or maybe it's auto-hit, no resist.)  Most of the time I don't even ever need a heal.

I don't think the fear ATO proc in VG does much, I've seen it, but really only solo against s/l mobs that couldn't hurt me anyway, and even then I still knock them out of the fear with all my attacks.  It might be good exemplaring, but I haven't done as much of that recently.  I need to look at mob resists too as I'm not sure all the -resist pocs are doing anything, I thought there was some way to do that after using surveillance but haven't been able to find it.  I know I could buy a power analyzer, but I hate to do that if surveillance does the same thing.

On the incarnate front, I've got all T3s now and am VL 20.  I changed from knives of vengeance to banished lore, I like banished much better as the untouchable support has a rain that does a good deal of damage and adds yet more -resist (extra against cold which Arctic Breath does,) and I changed to degenerative from reactive interface, as degenerative does toxic damage, and seems to be one if not the only interface that actually works from what I've been reading.  I'm still going to try switching from cardiac to muscl alpha, and destiny from rebirth to ageless to see if I can eek out some more damage without running out of end, I've been accumulating incarnate salvage toward that end.   I want to get Judgement to T4 after all that, I'm not sure if I want the hold or not though, It does go off and hit lots of targets, but again I'm not sure it's doing anything since anything holds work on generally aren't anything to worry about, and extra damage might just kill what's been held instead, going to try the T3 without hold first before I make a decision. I also made an incandescence destiny as it was wanted for one of the iTrials, but I couldn't slot it at the time as I kept getting the message that I'd either been attacked or used a power too recently.

I'll try to get the current build posted again sometime soon if anyone's interested.

Small update, I haven't made much changes yet, I did change out lore from KoV to Banished Radial, and like that much better.  I've soloed some DA arcs at +0x8 pretty fast which seems to give far better xp than trying to do AE.  I also soloed Mender Silos arc at +2, which included soloing Statesman, Manticore and one of the girl supers all at once.  Positron & Citadel (& someone else, forget who) actually gave me the most trouble, I had to kite them around and it took awhile to figure out to take out Posi first, then Citadel was a pushover.  I could really see the effects of the -resists in those fights, I tried fighting one of the Heroes without bothering with the -resists as I figured just spamming my melee attacks with build up when up should do more damage, but it was barely doing anything, then I went to my normal teaming vs. av rotation of VG, AB, Pulverize & CC; surveillance and build-up when up and they went down much faster.

Edit - Small Updatd #2:

Changed out Alpha to Musculature, and Destiny to Ageless (still only T3s for everything, I could probalby get T4s but no rush)  I decided to try soloing a pylon just out of curiosity, I didn't use Lore or Judgement or Inspirations, but did use Ageless and Assault.  I kept forgetting to click Ageless so I'd run out of end, have to click it, back up and re-toggle all my toggles actually I think it was only twice.  No deaths, The pylon only managed to hurt me a bit when my toggles all dropped, otherwise only a sliver of health ever, it took about 10 minutes, and went quicker the 2nd half when I got my rotation down pretty well.  VG on auto, click arctic breath, surveilance and build up when up and spam pulverize and crowd control, and the odd bash when there was time.  Doing a few missions, I also found I had to remember to click Ageless when it was up, and preferably turn off ninja run, which is a little QoL issue, and am considering going back to Cardiac just so I never have to remember to click Ageless again, or turn off Ninja Run.   I ran some solo lower level missions, it was kind of weird, I pretty much just did VG and Crowd Control, I could put in a pulverize or bash here and there, but it didn't really seem to make any difference other than lowering my end faster since between the two AoEs everything would die, except bosses, so I'd just sit and wait for those - except bosses who'd I'd give the pulverize & bash treatment.  I also saw VG actually proc the fear often enough and with the waiting saw it be effective, except I didn't care if they attacked me or not since I'm so sturdy, I'm pretty sure I'll put something else in there if I respec again.    I'm sure I could make a better solo alt maling build using more huntsman attacks but it's not really worth the trouble or influence it'd require (maybe if I ever get around to making that crabbermind alt build)

For what it's worth, I'd be interested in seeing an updated version of this Support/Control Bane.

I'd also be interested in seeing the updated version.  I've been toying with all sorts of builds and haven't been able to get one that I am comfortable with.
