Brute vs scrapper

Both solo as easily as each other, as scrapper is the premier soloist blue side, and all redside ATs were designed to be much more solo-friendly than the rest of blueside.

 

As both do high damage, scrapper will be able to take down AVs faster but have bigger chances of wiping out, while brutes will be a little slower at it, but will be more survivable.  Since of course, a dead AV means you no longer have to care about surviving, your choice for strictly AV fighting is probably scrapper, followed by brute.  A stalker is also an optional choice since their Assassin Strike change in combat means they can compete for damage output as well now.

/wp will be better as a brute than scrapper since they have higher resist cap and better regen. There's a number of primaries which would work.

A lot depends on the precise target.  +4 AVs may be hard to get enough DPS out of a Brute, but at the same time, higher Brute toughness will be helpful against the really dangerous targets (Apex, Tin Mage) IF you can eke enough DPS out of the Brute Chassis.


Note that secondary and primary matter as much as AT.  Some AVs and GMs have high resist vs specific damage types and low or negative on others.  Do your research.  Some secondaries are very strong in a crowd - but many of the toughest AV fights happen without a crowd, or with a crowd that debuffs you (having Warwerks robots debuff your regen rather defeats the purpose of bringing a crowd with them).

 

DEF based strategies may be questionable at the highest levels - +4 AVs, and especially Incarnate tier AVs, do not miss very much.

 

Currently some very impressive things are being done in this area over on the Sentinel side, inasmuch as range is very, very good mitigation, and you can (barely) eke enough DPS out of at least one sentinel primary/secondary combination to crack even +4 AVs.

When in doubt, Dark is a good default. I would likely pick Fire as a backup.
