  1. There's also no rule about people not liking a particular kind or style of costume.  Some people enjoy playing clones, some people think they're tacky.  Everyone who's been in the latter camp has been reasonable enough about communicating their preference, so I'm not going to tell them to back off.

  2. Act like adults, please.

If you're upset I closed a thread, take it up with me directly instead of covering it in several levels of passive-aggression.

If a GM closes a thread, that's not a reason to escalate the debate in private.

    Don't call people "gammas".

It's not against the rules to share your private communications with other people, but it's still kind of a dick move.

  3. There are more companies out there besides Marvel and DC.  If any copyright holder issues a C&D asking Homecoming to take action against characters that infringe on their intellectual property, we are almost certainly going to honor that.

It is too early to worry about "costume police", but it is also short-sighted to say that it can never be a concern.

  4. I'm closing this thread not because I disagree with the suggestion or don't want to see it come to fruition, but because the discussion about it's become non-productive.  The OP's clearly stated their case for why they want it, other people have disagreed, and I don't think there's anything to be gained by having even more people come in with the same handful of counterarguments.

To this I would ask how close is "too close" and/or "too obvious"?  I think any comic aficionado can very easily draw parallels between any comic character to those we can make in CoH.  For instance, any Mutant Claws/Regen scrapper I roll is essentially the same as Wolverine.  Any Natural SS/INV tank with Laser Beam Eyes is a Superman/Kryptonian ripoff.  Where is the line drawn?  The costume editor and power choices we have are more often than not leading toward a "close" match to any existing copyrighted superhero.  If you want to stop any potential "frivolous" lawsuits, may as well go ahead and restrict everyone to 1 costume and 1 or 2 power choices that are not "too close to be obvious".
