I'm open to other powers that would work thematically as well as being viable in solo and occasional group play.

What about a pyrotechnic/nature controller - dazzling lights, hypnotic spores, groovy healing abilities and dissolving floral pods...

Just wondering what setting would be causing low FPS on a new graphics card

This may seem counterintuitive, but certain GUI elements, specifically things like name labels for other players, place an unusually high demand on systems - even ones decades newer than when the game came out.  Particles/PhysX, if enabled or  set to a high value, also impose an unusually high performance penalty.  Disabled PhysX and drop particles to the minimum, and set other player names to only appear when selected or on mouse-over, and see if that helps.

  3. I think @Renatos1023 has the right idea - make "minimal FX" the default for power sets with such obtrusive graphical effects - the majority of "big blocky ice cubes" I see applied to characters aren't even tinted, so it is my guess that those players didn't even bother to alter their powers in any way, so if they really wanted said FX, they could go and select them during character creation or at any tailor...

  4. So when I play CoH on my desktop, WIN+D works as expected and brings me back to the desktop without issue, but when I try the same thing on my laptop, it either does nothing or seemingly only changes the cursor back to the regular Windows one, leaves COH running in the foreground, but I cannot interact with anything unless I hit ESC, (at which point the cursor goes back to the CoH one).  I've tried running the game in regular 1366x768, 1366x768 [Desktop], and 1366x768 [Display1], and all yield the same result.  Running it in windowed mode works as I was expecting, but there's a pretty significant performance hit when doing so, and the actual window elements eat up a lot of the limited screen real estate.  The laptop is using a Ryzen 3 CPU/GPU, (the desktop has a dedicated Nvidia GPU for reference).  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance!

I really don't see how anyone can read all of the commentary above on how the LFG actually works and call a negative response "passive."

"Active" means you have to put in the work - announce what you're running and recruit those interested.  "Passive" means you just click and hope things work out for you.

  6. So my suggestion is fairly simple;  Add a special emote command, which only works with looping emotes.  When used, it causes said emote to re-apply, should something cause you to be forced out of it, (such as others applying buffs to you).

It could work something like this:  /rtle stancevillain2

The above would cause you to go into the 'stancevillain2' emote, and if someone were to apply a buff or something else that would force you out of said emote, it simply reapplies it...

Of course, this would only apply while outside of combat, as being forced back into an emote mid-battle would be quite troublesome...

A Wand blast option.  If the melee archetypes get various weapon skins as options, why not ranged blasters?

Blasters do get weapon model options - for AR, BR, archery, and DP.  That being said, (and I realize this would be a big kludge), but I wonder if they could sort of create a clever "wand-like" implement that is held in the same stance as the rifles or pistols, yet have a distinctly wand or organic appearance.  It wouldn't be perfect by any stretch, but especially for beam rifle, might just work...

    I don't understand!!!!

Think of it like this:  Anything less than 1 for a value of knockback IS knockdown.  The catch is that it is possible, under some circumstances, to stack multiple effects quickly enough to exceed that 1 threshold, thereby turning it into knockback.  Further, as @lemming pointed out, against lower level or particularly susceptible enemies, it may be increased as well, and therefore treated as knockback...

It just doesn't make any sense to me that HC allows other unrelated servers to dictate what HC can develop.

It's not that these other servers dictate what HC can or cannot develop - it's that if HC were to develop something similar, and some other server started something, (whether legitimate or not), it could be more trouble than it's worth.  Regardless, whether it "chaps your hide" is irrelevant.  What I'd suggest would be to start a topic in the suggestions forum for specific items you'd like to see implemented, instead of a general "why don't you do these vague unsaid things that some other server has done"...

i just want to see how close im allowed to get

It has to be left vague, because if they gave a hard & fast rule, people would go right up to that edge, yet it may still not assuage an IP holder or relevant legal authority.  Best to not use the name and/or appearance of any existing character...

Oh, while I'm dreaming, I want HC to drop the asinine "if other servers have it, HC can't have it" rule. Why on earth should other servers have even the slightest bit of influence on what HC does? It's the dumbest notion ever conceived!

I think it has more to do with accusations of "theft" of code or some such, rather than a general "they did X so we can't have our own version"...

Forest for the trees folks. We only have one "wand" model in the game that I know of. Do any of you really think about a "wand" as a superpower implement and think of anything else without having to try? This kind of "feedback" is how threads get derailed.

Yes - Every bit as legitimate as a sword, a gun, a staff, or a mace.  The only limit of what can be a "superpower" is your imagination.

I have a level ten character, and I queued for a Positron 1 TF.  Except it never pops.  What am I doing wrong?"

And it is this sort of passivity that needs to be unlearned - why sit there in some queue hoping things will "pop" when a simple shout-out in /LFG will likely fill the team faster.  It's an almost pathological fear of forming a team oneself...

  14. Make the siphoning effect inherent to each attack - either as a guaranteed flat amount or a % chance.  Have the buildup power simply push it to a 100% chance.  Maybe trim the pause-like effect some of the powers seem to have between when the animation appears to have completed and the damage actually applies as well.

    "Magic Wand"

A "wand" set, sure.  A "magic wand" set - no thanks.  Just as we don't have a "magic sword" or "tech gun" set - the ones we do have are broad and general enough to encompass anything form an archaic flintlock, to a high tech energy pistol, to some sort of enchanted pistol-shaped object, so should be the case with a "wand"...

  16. I usually request people with ranged attacks prioritize the surgeons, but there seems to be this overall attraction toward just hosing down the largest groups with AoEs, and ignoring those on the periphery - it's like some folks think they are being charged per power use, so can't "waste" any attacks on measly lone targets.  That being said, I have also found that if you can get the team to chat during the TF, they will tend to respond better to anything said during it - if it's dead quiet and people are just sort of in autopilot, you'll get a similarly robotic response...

we've seen what other games have to offer with random turnstile queues and most of us aren't really interested in that

I hated it when matchmaking systems would finally pop, only for half the team to drop because they didn't like the particular team composition.  If a person is willing to put themselves out there, stating their level, AT, and sometimes even powersets, then they are probably going to be a better teammate as well...
