Which ammo type should I make my default until I need to switch?

From an alt'ers point-of-view, I do try to retain the kind of ammo that I think the character would use.

The ice rounds seem to work best as a default for me as they have a chance of causing a hold. Very short, but a hold nonetheless.

Except slows only augment teams that themselves are slow moving.   Something that is much more rare now a days than they used to be.  Slows are amazing, but take time to become amazing, more so than other debuffs.  A tohit debuff for example can be applied and instantly can be powerful, not so with a slow.  Slows actually aren't extremely powerful in conjunction with a team with a lot of damage dealers on them because the slows never have a chance to take effect before everything is dead.  On a team like that slows are completely worthless.

As to buffing it to solo vs. team,  I think the most important improvement the set needs is to flash freeze...to make it more useful in a team.  Old style one and done click sleeps are notoriously rarely useful in teams.

I don't run on teams that run up and instantly destroy every mob so that slows are entirely useless. That kind of team would make any controller or defender useless.

Other sets have sleeps. The sleeps are pretty much for when you are running solo or on a team that doesn't use  AoEs.

Ran my Ice/storm Controller today teamed up with a with a Storm/Water defender.

level 42 versus level 49 mob of Snow creatures. We couldn't take them down, but they couldn't take us down either.

Hurricaned an elite boss to the ceiling in a Baby New Year mission and kept him pinned and slowed there until he was defeated.

    Hulk smash? No.

    Icy goodness. Oh, yeah!

    Ice is nice!

    Just seems weird...

    Agreed.

I think it is a creativity issue or a lack of connection to a character.

I have over 70 characters and I pretty much know what I'm getting into when I log them in even if I don't read the power sets that are listed directly underneath of the character on the character log-in screen.

I know that sometimes there are people that try to get a name and they try 10-15 times and they are already taken. Not so much of it is that any of those names were bad ideas or obviously they wouldn't be taken. Problem is that they were generic enough to be thought of easily.

I mean even Spider-man is The Spectacular Spider-man and Peter Parker The Amazing Spider-man.

Sometimes all it takes is that adjective to change that name from one that is already taken to the one on your character.

Someone in global had a great suggestion of parking your toon in Pocket D for an hour to gain the Long Range Teleport accolade.

I would have to make a new character to test this, but, if this is doing that I think it is doing, you would actually have to be in-game in the Pocket D for a full hour for it to kick in.

This is the first that I have head of this.

On a new toon my first act is usually to sell a few converters so I have some working capital.  Getting the one in the upper right corner (Gargoyle, I think) leaves me close to WW.

With /macro Auction AH, there is no need to go to Wentworth unless you are working on the Day job. And, speaking of that, the Day Job for Wentworths is no longer a teleporter to get to Wentworths locations.

  6. I don't think the Ice controller has had any changes since at least over a year before the Sunset (and I think quite longer than that).

I had at least 2 ice controller 50's back then.

I see no problem with the set.

I am a team player. Controllers, in general, are not solo-play characters but are meant to augment a team.

In saying this, SLOW powers are extremely powerful in conjunction with damage dealing teammates.

Add in confusion, knockdown, and debuffs ... I mean wow.

The set kicks butt when you are on a team.

City of Heroes is designed to be team game.

Buffing the set for solo play causes increase team benefit for each additional team member. So increasing something for solo and them multiply it by 7 and see if it still make sense. The controller is for controlling the enemy and this set already excels at that

It took several hours to unlock on all my alts. Is that a lot? Not much? I’m not sure.

1 mil Inf or run around Atlas for 5 minutes?

I think I'll be running around Atlas for 5 minutes.

I only have like 70+<100 characters at this point. (and, yeah, all the ones that I had created before the issue drop I had run around Atlas so that they would unlock it).

If the Taxibots return in force, there will be no need for new characters to spend 1 mil to unlock it. The run-around-Atlas will take even far less time.

Notice that "City of Heroes" isn't mentioned on the box anywhere at all?  (I still have two of these boxes with all of their contents, BTW.)

Still have the CoV box and the Preorder COV box from GameStop.

CoV was Episode 6 of City of Heroes called "Along Came a Spider" (end of 2005). Though  you could buy it and play it stand alone, it gave superheroes access to superhero bases - without it, heroes didn't have access to super bases without buying CoV until CoV was  integrated into City of Heroes in 2008.

I'm sure if there were records available (and there maybe some) that the percentage of players that bought CoV and did not buy CoH (or already own COH) was very small.

If you want to play Villains, that's fine, but it is a cage of your own making.

The first City of Heroes character I ever made was based on a Champions Campaign that I played in where the players played super villains.

That being said, I made 10 characters the first day I played.

I had bought the City of Heroes not long after it came out and had plenty of time to read and reread, and reread the book while I was saving up to buy the parts to build a computer to be able to play it. I had plenty of time to design characters that I wanted to play before I could even play the game .... add I didn't "create" all the characters that I had pre-designed on the first day that I played.

Similar situation for CoV.  Before the Beta was over I had a slate of characters ready to be created when CoV came out.

I never liked CoV as much as City of Heroes.

Honesty, I pretty much hated the Praetorian stuff even in the beta. Buzzing fluorescent lights have to be the most annoying video game sound ever created.

Second Point,  have you see the show "The boys"

In that world, you have the  "wealthy" seven.  You also have heroes hooked on drugs or regenerating  body parts removal to make a quick buck.

    So here we go.

Garth Ennis deconstructor of American superhero comics being referenced as to what superheroes are about.

Quote from his Wiki-page "Despite having written a number of superhero stories for Marvel and DC, Ennis is noted for subverting the genre and mocking the characters in this work."

No. His work is not a good example of what superhero comics are about. His works are for those that disrespect American superhero comics and work to break the American superhero mythos.

The sad thing, no modern games even come close to the tools provided by COV.

All the tools that are there in CoV are in and because of City of Heroes.

Take the mechanics that were part of CIty of Heroes out of the game and COV can claim maybe supergroup bases (this was boxed with CoV to get CoH players to buy it because originally you couldn't have a base unless you owned CoV) and PVP. Otherwise, CoV was always just subpart of City of Heroes.

Sure you could originally purchase it alone, but I'm sure if the records were there to check, there was a very small percentage of players that owned CoV that didn't have City of Heroes.

Tactically there were always options besides the vanilla PVP grunt shooting.

There still are in Planetside 2. If it was just grunt shooting, I wouldn't be playing it.

I'm not the best shot in the world either. There are plenty of tactics that someone that can't aim (pretty much at all) that can change the tide of battle ... sometimes in huge ways.

Planetside 2 has massive battles(for anyone that doesn't know) and a 96+vs96+ in a region happens. that's just in one region on a map with no zoning between regions and dozens of regions on a continent. It is also not just ground troops, but also ground vehicles, aircraft, resource collection, base building, etc.

But I'm here to play City of Heroes and not defend Planetside 2.

but always hated the Naruto pose, so thank you!

I have always thought the Beast jump looks like a cat thrown at a screen door.

Four legged animals don't jump like that. They pounce.

The Coyote and panther forms do such a good job doing jumps.

Don't know if there is an easy way to port those leap animations across into the beast run set.

Selecting Slide stance with a new character through Ms. Liberty's edit costume function appears to do nothing at all. Beast and Ninja work fine; Slide changes nothing.

I could get it to work when I made a new character after the last patch.

The characters I had on the server before that point can still switch around the stances an they work.

They did a stealth patch today, maybe it fixed it.

  13. They kind of did.

All you have to do is go to Null the Gull in the Pocket D and you can change to whatever alignment you want.

There is no reason to destroy the Hero/Villain dynamic of a superhero game for everyone simply because you think you should be able to team-up with everyone like there is no difference between heroes and villains.

At a minimum, 70% of the players on-line are heroes. If you want to be bad (even a little bad in your case), you have to pay for your choices. That's what an alignment system is about.

The DEVs gave you a quick way to change with Null the Gull. Use it if that's how you like to play.

I think you'd have to pair them, so someone couldn't say "OK, entrance to this room has no rank" but the exit is only accessible by one or two ranks - either intentionally or unintentionally. Granted, it would (potentially) be fixed by /stuck or just logging out, but still.

(Honestly, there are a *lot* of things with rank that need looking at in general.)

I made a room in a base that you have to teleport into.

As you turn around the room, the writing is on the wall ...

    CAN ->

    YOU ->

    ESCAPE ->

    THE DEATHTRAP?

I ended up trying to put in a hidden way out, which I could only hide so much.

Originally, you would have to log out or use the base teleporter to get out of the room ... which was rapidly filling with water... or at least has water for a floor and massive amounts of water were being pumped into it. from high up on the walls.

...if you aren't into writing .... character bios...

And characters that do have a badge set often just have it set to a 'brag' Master Of badge rather than something that enhances the character concept.

That's because they don't care about character conception.

They probably have a 50 (or multiple 50s) for bragging rights (even though it was probably power-leveled in the AE in a fire farm)

They are leet because they are in the end-game. They may or may not really enjoy the game. Some simply want to brag about how cool they are and actually care about the character as long as they can show how OP or powerful they are.

There seems to be an increasing number of players that really have no character conception.

Sometimes you can simply tell by the name.

Everyone should play how they enjoy the game.

I understand that some people simply aren't creative or do not feel that they are creative enough.

Sometimes we can see this in a name.

I have never told someone that their origin stinks even if I don't understand it. Once I pointed out spelling error. 99% the time I will tell them they have a cool bio or something to that extent.

Anyone with a naming issue should talk about this with whatever team you are on. Other people will be more than willing to suggest names and you can pick one (or those) that seem(s) cool and see if you can change the character's name next time you are in character selection. It cost nothing to change character names.

If you have a concept for your character and you need help fleshing it out, sometimes just talking about it with other players helps to get it organized in your mind.

Some players create an idea before they even pick a power set.

Some players pick a powerset and craft an idea around it.

Some players write their bio before they ever enter the game and already know what badges they want to get so that they can display that name.

Some players write their bio once they are in game when they get the chance.

Some players don't even know that you can write a bio for a character and do not know that the badge titles can be displayed on their character.

Some can't be bothered do deal with finding decent name, writing a bio, or picking a badge.

    We all play differently.

One of the things I love about this game is the character creator and how many different concepts that I think are cool that I can come up with.

I can't play them all at the same time, but, when I have the itch to play that kind of character, I have them. When a team needs a certain archetype to make things run smoother, I can switch up to whatever I need. They all have character conceptions and a reason for doing what they are doing.

  16. btw.

Most LFG messages don't bother saying any color or side, because, as I have stated before - most of the player heroes and most of the players know that.

There are just a few that feel that they need to say a color instead of hero or simply nothing when recruiting for a hero team.

They stick out like a sore thumb to me.

People are still posting on this thread, so they must be  having fun with it.
