Telling someone to "suck it up" is not the same as telling them what actions they are allowed to take in the game. In this case, its telling them they won't get any sympathy coming here and complaining, especially with such hyperbole as they were using, about something that is irrelevant. I wasn't aware there was a "smack player for helping" action you could take in the game which we're forcing this person not to use, or a "refuse help" button. If there isn't such an ability then its not telling them how to play because, to restate, they are not being told to do anything differently from what they are doing now. There is no action they can take to accept help, there is no action they can take to keep others away from their enemies in open world, there is no action they can take to retaliate for being "helped". The only thing they can do is address the person they feel wronged them and no one has told them not to do so. It's exactly the same thing! You are telling players to let you play your way, not the way desire to while complaining and belittling others whop want to play differently from you. Do you not see the irony here? Let me be clear, I don't rightly care one way or another. The "Pro KS" side seems to think that since it's NOT a problem to them, it doesn't matter to anyone. Then they're telling other to accept their own way of playing. That seems rather disingenuous to me. Doesn't it to you? What you're arguing is no different than saying if I refuse to team with someone I am forcing them to play my way, or if I am standing in Atlas Park and they don't like seeing heroes standing there when they fly/jump/run by I am forcing them to play my way. Further, if you actually read the comments here you'd see that most of what you're calling the "pro KS" side don't jump in and attack when someone else is on a spawn. Most have said they hang out and do nothing unless the other hero looks like he needs help. So, most of us are not even advocating the way we play ourselves. I think your later post summed it up nicely. "Otherwise it sounds to me like I am being FORCED to allow you to play your way". So, if I hate people KSing I'm playing the exact same way whether or not I can force it to stop. I am not required to change my behavior in any way, shape, or form. On the other hand, if I think I'm helping and that it should be ok I am forced to play differently if its disallowed. Now, had the Op, and the other person who jumped in on the Ops side, approached this with reason and respect, they would not have been treated as they were by some respondents. They were not derided for hating people "helping" them. They were derided for coming in with a "my opinion is the law of the universe and you will all bow to it" attitude. However, you seem to be addressing me personally when you say "complaining and belittling other who want to play differently". If so, then do quote where in this thread I did anything of the kind.

I know, I was there too. I was 15 years younger at the start, though. Now I'm old and crusty, and my tolerance of the tomfoolery of whippersnappers has gone the way getting up out of bed without groaning.

I want to choose my look from the start. If my character has an aura about him, it is not a visual representation of his increased power, it is from whatever I (not you, I) say it is. My character, my look, my reasons. If I want an aura to be a representation of power then I will not have one until I break a level that I (again, me, not you) decide is the point in which his power begins leaking out. Further, I have no interest whatsoever in doing the same damn cape/aura mission for every single character I want such a thing on. That was my biggest peeve with the unlock before. No level lock, emphatically no. You may feel its an accomplishment, I feel it is tedious and repetitive. My way, you want it locked, great, you can play the game as if it is and not allow yourself a cape/aura until you've run the mission to get them. No one forces you to take it sooner. Your way, I'm forced to play your way. I really, REALLY wish people would stop trying to shove their vision of how the game should be played off on everyone. It's seriously getting annoying. FREEDOM!!!

Depends on what level you are. I haven't gotten to the higher level arcs yet, but I know the Hollows arcs were beefed up in merits. They range from level 5 to 14 and reward 85 Merits when you complete them all. If they beefed up all arcs similarly then you should be able to do pretty well on most of them.

Lower the cost of perstige travel powers in the P2W vendor

Ninja and Beast run are free. You're just limited in how many free ones you can choose. -
Auction House: Delete bids from players no longer playing
Dr. Gemini replied to Vorlonagent's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Given that all recipes/enhancements of the same set are pooled, there's really not enough bids on anything to be much of an issue, even if the population does drop. Taking items out of circulation would only be an issue for the less used recipes/enhancements, but these are also the lowest priced ones and rarely have many, if any, bids waiting on them. -
Don't put yourself down, you're like a paladin among us.

Its really one of those "flip a coin" decisions. Gravity is a pretty strong powerset, but controllers require patience (although gravity has some pretty strong non-control attacks). Also, most of the debuffs the secondary gives you I never really notice much effect solo. They're devastating in teams with multiple debuffers. (I'm not saying the debuffs don't do anything, just that, perceptually, its hard to see any difference). Dominators, on the other hand, have an attacking secondary, which lets you remain active while your controls are slowly killing the enemies. :-\

Actually, AE farms appeared to have a huge negative impact on the game (and I say appeared because we never had access to the stats, so I can only base this on what was visible to us at the time). An unusually large infusion of new players came into the game with the AE patch followed by an even larger loss of those players after an unusually short period of time. If you watched chatter about CoH around the internet (outside of CoH-based forums) you saw nothing but comments from people who tried the game and quit because it took them a few hours to get to 50 and there was nothing to do. The devs, based on their comments, seemed to feel the data indicated AE farms were responsible as well. CoH really didn't recover from the negative publicity until Freedom. That said, I blame the devs for that, not the farmers. I'm all for people doing what they want to do, but devs do have to play parents in a game, and make timely adjustments if something is hurting the game. If the GMs see no issue with farming AE, then I have no problem with that. If they need to curtail it for the health of the game, or (as is being done now) to conserve resources, I have no problem with that either.

Homecoming Server Update: Moves, XP, and EU!
Dr. Gemini replied to GM Tempest's topic in Announcements
After WoW became so popular, just about every dev of every MMO being developed thought emulating WoW was the path to success. Where are those games today? Gone or plodding along, mostly in maintenance mode. Copying WoWs mechanics has never worked for any other game, so it actually works against you using it as a foundation of your argument. This is not WoW. The game is not about getting to 50 and doing raids. Bottom line, though, I, and others who are against you on this, have soloed up characters to 50, without XP bonuses, and know that, even solo, it can be easy to rush to 50 if you want. I don't believe you have leveled any characters very far given your comments about mission XP seem to be based solely on XP granted for low-level missions. -
Before your game experience can be ruined you have to actually be in the game. Its pretty clear from your spam on this subject everywhere that you saw a video about this and immediately went on a crusade without realizing its already been solved. So, go play some, enjoy the lack of AE farm spam that seems to be a trigger for you, and see if you can have fun without worrying about what other people do.
-
Wait, you're close to quitting because you feel forced to AE farm when there are almost zero AE farms running for the last couple weeks? It doesn't sound like you have been playing, which would make it pointless to quit. Maybe try basing your opinion on what is going on in game and not on a YouTube video?

Speaking of rehashing the same old things over and over... Now I'm sure we can figure out a way for ED to factor into this and get the trifecta. Removing ED would make the need for expensive IO sets less of a requirement at endgame and more of a perk/bragging rights and the cost of those enhancements would not be sky high due to not being a requirement for endgame builds and making AE Farms for Inf a thing of the past (trifecta!) Removing ED wouldn't change anything. It would just encourage more frankenslotting of all the powers and create more power creep. Most of the expensive IO's are the ones that aren't even effected by ED like Luck of the Gambler recharge, Performance shifter +end, etc. All of which are easy to buy for the low cost of 50 merits which is basically 1 TF. uhhh...I'm pretty sure he was joking in response to my joke.

The only thing I hate about AE farms is, as someone who likes trying AE story arcs, it was always tough to find stories because every time a farm idea came down the pike every single person had to make their own version, which was always an exact duplicate of it, until there would be 5 million and 12 exact same arcs clogging up the interface. So, people want to make AE farms, go for it, just have the consideration to allow me to use the AE for playing stories too.

Awesome, you deserve an Inf for that.

I've suggested this too, and I still think it could work. As before, I nominate Indomitable, because it's also the unofficial PvP server, and the two designations would naturally help each other grow; more villains mean more opponents for heroes in PvP zones, more PvP opponents for heroes mean more villains. What! Share my server with a bunch of stinking villains!!?? Never! Although if you all would shower regularly it would be fine. Actually, I didn't even realize Indomitable was the unofficial PvP server. That could put a crimp in my PvP zone badge hunting.

You all are just a bunch of hellions on this subject.

Probably about 90% of all arguments on a game forum are. We have to occupy our time somehow...

Given the low population of villains, maybe the GMs could designate an Unofficial Villain Server. At least that could channel villain players to the same place so you might start having enough for more teams.

Well, it is a carnival of shadows...

Supergroup prestige turned back on
Dr. Gemini replied to lokiie1984's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Further, many SG groups used members as nothing more than Prestige farmers. I'd rather not see a reason for those kinds of groups to pop up again. You also have people like me, these days, who are not much use to an SG. I don't have the time to play regularly. I might spend a few hours on one day and not show up again for several weeks, and can rarely give more than a few minutes notice whether or not I can commit to joining whatever the group may want to do. I really don't see an upside to returning prestige. People who want to form groups can, people who don't aren't crippled by that decision. Prestige seems more like a mechanic to force people to play a certain way than an enjoyable part of a game. -
The reason I rarely play villains is the setting. Playing a villain in a villain-run empire feels pointless. If villains also played in Paragon City, or even another, not so overrun with super-heroes city, you could at least feel like you're doing villainy. Instead, the Rogue Islands either make me feel like a flunky for another villain or an anarchist.

This has caused me so much mental anguish I'm going to Tsoo you!
