Brutes need a kind of "no sell" ability when sufficiently furious - some sort of "ignores debuffs" effect, which prevents them from being slowed down, knocked aside, etc.  It'd also be funny to give them a sort of knockdown effect if they're moving into any weaker enemies, (maybe only if moving faster than some baseline speed)...

Yep. If Tanks are the immovable object, Brutes should be the unstoppable force*.

*This is just a poetic opinion, I don't know how they function technically.

  2. Rick Astley and Blossoms did an entire set of songs by The Smiths at Glastonbury 2023, last weekend.  ... And it was amazing.

Rick Astley with Blossoms - There is a Light That Never Goes Out

Funnily enough, Johnny Marr played with The Pretenders.
The whole event was crammed with legends. Glen Matlock played with Blondie, but not with Sex Pistols/Generation X "super" group, Generation Sex.

The OG devs rightfully didn't want you to automate the leveling process.

    But .. but .. Mastermind.

Things have changed since OG days. I think it's time World of Confusion did, too. For the record I have no characters that use it (yet) - Maybe if it were changed, I would?

    Why pigeon-hole anyone at all?

For comprehension. Why have genres of movies, or of music, for example? Why pigeon-hole a superhero, what is a Speedster, what is a Brute? Why categorise them at all? Stereotypes give people a quick idea of what you're referring to. If I say my character is a Rocketeer, for example, you know I'm talking about someone with a jetpack and trousers. Pigeon-holes are for comprehension.

We're not all imaginative. In fact, I'd suggest that most of us really struggle with imagination. There's no such thing as creativity, instead we combine existing ideas - we stand on the shoulders of previous mixers. As Picasso said, "good artists copy, great artists steal". I think people will benefit from having ideas presented to them for them to add their own ideas to, rather than give them a blank page and expect divine intervention to provide a miracle.

Thread necro  because OMG look, they've gone and cornered  Efficacy Adaptor (End Mod)  recipes now. Look at that... 3396 for sale ... holy crap, they must have a lot of characters to hold all those.

  6. Thanks for all the amazing new costume parts!

I love Blast Goggles 2 with glow - perfect for my sinister Doctor villain, and the glow on the helmet visor I found the other day! Awesome, I love this glow stuff.

    Nom nom nom! 😄

Is there any chance we can get a version of Lab Goggles with the reflect effect from Sporty 1S on the bit you look through (but not the sides) please?

So its like the preset costumes but with extra steps?  Im not interested in it taking even longer on character creation.

I like the OP's suggestion. It gives the player some ideas on what constitutes each Origin. With such open design options in CoH, more than any other game I know, it's good to have some ideas to guide design and ideas. When given a costume creator and no boundaries, I find I am very definitely affected by  decision paralysis .

I'd like to see some stuff that's unique to each Origin, but I recognise the game is all about having near-unlimited choice. This idea of choice ruins anything that players might want from Origins because they can only make something exclusive to an Origin and people will whine endlessly about anything that limits choice.

    CoH

    Caucophony of Headaches

It's a big deal. This game is all about welcoming all types and genres of heroes. So the sound guys must have had an absolute nightmare trying to cobble together sounds that suit all manner of character.

    Pile that problem on top of the questions they must have had for themselves;

What do all these different things sound like? What does Invincibility sound like? What is the sound of "Sound"? What is the sound of "Radiation"? So the chosen audio isn't really true-to-life - just a choice, a representation. - so a modder replacing them seems 100% legit to me.

I have a lot of sympathy for those sound guys - but I'd have tried to be more subtle, but they weren't so we have what we have. With mods, we have the option to change some of those decisions.

I think a lot of the loops, for example, are annoying and I've already silenced many on my client. It's not perfect, but I think perfect is going to be a very long term project - unless we get an AI to do it, hahaha - I'm laughing in 2023. With a little cynicism and a little fear.

As you say, there are a lot of people who are under the impression CoX is like some other MMO's where the game starts at level cap and everything to get there is a painful grind, so they do AE farming until they hit 50 then have no real clue how to play. Not their fault, it's a symptom of a lot of games, but it does mean they don't have much to do at that level and they don't understand the basics.  I think we need to have patience with those people and help point them in the right direction, but I can see why someone would be annoyed with lots of people all messaging them 🙂

Can't they Ouroboros everything they missed? If not, why not? And what should they(we) make sure we don't miss during the levelling process? I'm interested in the main story of the game in particular...
      WARNING: ENORMOUS PLOT SPOILER AHEAD

    Spoiler

I never did the "Who will die?" stuff and then Statesman disappeared.

I still don't know where to pick those missions up.

You have buildings that are partially fallen over, but still structurally sound enough to sit in that position for years.

Have years gone by in the lore or are we playing at a frozen moment in time? It all seems quite static, despite some things changing.

I guess you could do that for an outline. But a machine has no emotional understanding of betrayal,

Well that's something to analyse when you look at the result, isn't it?

  12. Here's one for you: Specify that the arc has to contain a betrayal, but the betrayal must have a good reason.

This opens a whole bunch of characterisation for baddies - they become more understandable and tragic.

Baddies who do evil for the sake of it are boring.

Baddies who do evil because they have a horrible choice - they're interesting - those are the ones that might be redeemable.

I guess they don't fit too well into the Hero-Antihero-Rogue-Villain system, but ... they're a thing.

Seems like a fast way to generate a lot of generic content, but without any of the creativity, twists, or feelings a real human could come up with.

This is an old trope that I think we're getting over. ChatGPT has surprised everybody with the quality of it's output.

That's always been the big future of work question... What is everyone going to do...

And actually I'm sure they'll be a pendulum swing and a made by humans movements, etc

But by creatives, yes, not just artists/entertainers - engineers, architects, lawyers, all sorts. AI works well within constraints

    1. I am sure it will be able to design a building to code lickety split.
    2. Generative AI is already being used to design parts to meet performance specs in ways a person would never think of
    3. Lawyers basically research and compile info to draw a conclusion or craft documents based on research to protect you. Seems right in its wheelhouse.

Lots of unknowns ahead for all of us...

I think humans will make work for humans.

It looks like the future of work is manual labour. Robotic advancement isn't keeping pace with AI. Hopefully AI will accelerate robotic advancement!

... and then there's protest. Free people protest. It's a thing.

Governments are already cracking down on protest, we're heading towards police-states all over the western world.

Massive wealth redistribution is required because of the inevitable natural economic effect of money making money - monopolies become inevitable, we get Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four situation (funny how that keeps cropping up, isn't it?) ... and when people are all unemployed the situation becomes "Business vs Humans".

    As if it isn't already.
