  1. 10-12 million an hour is pretty good for me.

If that's the case you'd be better served merit farming. Any number of ways to get more than 40 merits (which is equivalent to 12 million not counting listing fees) in an hour. it'd be a lot more interesting even on boring content and you'd get drops/inf on top.

  2. Just did 'forging the blackwand' on red and it's a quick 18. Can ghost it all apart from a 20 slag golem hunt which can be gotten on grey cons in the north of shark.

  3. Hey, you're giving away some of the best secrets here! :)

I keep waiting on the bottom to fall out but we're months into conversion strategies being posted in various places and apart from a few sets no longer being worth listing it's still amazingly lucrative if you can stand the tedium.

Great summary guide Shinobu! New go-to link to post in help five or six times a day :D

Oh one slight QoL tip to add - always move from last tray to first when converting and listing. That way if you pull an IO to market for a price check and aren't satisfied it'll go back to the slot it was in rather than to tray 1.

  4. Still sounds like you're doing something odd but I can't put my finger on it from what you've put. Essentially the 'right recipe ' is anything in the level range you're aiming for that only has one other (rare) set in its type at that level. There are plenty of those. Bid on everything in the set in blocks of 10, being careful not to get any of the sneaky ones with a rare salvage. When they fill buy your salvage in blocks of 10. I've been converting all 7 trays to rare in one session then converting/ listing one or two trays when I log in. I consistently send 1-200 million off to alts doing that daily.

  5. As I mentioned at the start this may not be accurate for ATOs, but I haven't looked real far into the exceptions to the system so I could be talking a lot about something unrelated...

Superior ATO and winter aren't bucketed. It's hit or miss whether the difference is more than a catalyst but I'd imagine many would already have the regular slotted prior to 50 anyway.

  6. I remembered it being 2 hours/30 mins as well. And even on live i didn't consider the 30 minutes worth all those kill alls on the rare occasions i used up the two hours before my build was set and i forgot i had it. For 5 minutes no chance. I run it once leveling for the 2 hour and my family kills for high pain accolade, then no tys.

  7. OK so i should clarify. I sent him 50 million for temp powers at 1 then in the teens 500 million. After I finished buying everything at 50 he had 215 million left. I only used merits for boosters and catalysts. But I crafted and converted every uncommon drop in a garbage set up to the 30s, crafted/sold/converted resist/defense/pvp drops at any level, sold decent recipes, sold salvage, vendored everything else. And I bought things as I leveled and slots became available. So all tolled it's impossible to say exactly how much I spent, but assuming you're not deleting everything or keeping your inventory full because omgfarmsmorenao the amount you need from your farmer for an alt shouldn't be 6-800 million unless you're just refusing to let the alt make some of its own money for some reason.

  8. I'm usually good with mids but my plant/savage is only 30. Waiting til i get a feel for the late savage powers before doing a build. I'll try to remember to post when i do.

  9.

Not sure how 600-800 mill is for a decent build. I would consider a build just using uncommons as being decent and there's zero chance that hit 600 million.

The scrap i just made with 3 superior winter sets, 3 purple sets, both superior ATO sets, 3 pvp resist IOs, 4 lotg 7.5% and every expensive unique didn't cost that much at buy it now pricing. Farming's a fine way to make money but it's hardly the easiest. Go look at the various market guides if you want easiest. I have a claws/fire brute who can do sub 6 minute 4/8/bosses runs of fire farms and I don't even bother as it's not nearly as easy as converting. I'd much rather log him in, convert a couple trays of IOs, collect the previous pile of cash and then go play my lowbies (who are already IOd as they level with as much expensive junk as they need thanks to him).

And as to SwitchFade's notion of live purple costs being where we're headed with all the farming - remember that everything is practically hardcapped by the merit cost. We've still not even reached the price point where buying purples is the best use of merits.

  10. I'll third claws/fire. Follow up can be consistently double stacked and spin recharges super quickly. I run a chain of follow up and spin with whichever of burn or dark obliteration is up at the moment. I throw in a shockwave with -kb IO in here and there. But it's a very versatile set with good single target for that last leftover boss or for running whatever else besides fire farms.

  11. Can you boost IOs in sets that do not cap at 50 up to 50? Or if a set that caps at lvl 49 can go to 40+5  or something?

If there were such sets you could, but there aren't. but say you for some reason wanted to slot e.g. adrenal adjustment which caps at 20. it'd keep its set bonuses down to level 17 even if you boosted it to 20+5. So if you never exemp below 27, e.g., you'd be better off +5ing a level 30 steadfast +defense than using attuned. and by better off i mean you'd get a tiny bonus to the resist component in it vs the attuned version. but min/maxer is min/maxer.

  12. Should just buy them anyway. We're not yet at the point where you're getting good value for your merits by buying ATOs. Use your merits on converters or catalysts, sell those, buy the ATOs. Better yet keep the converters and use the tips in Shinobu's 0 to 100 million thread and elsewhere to make money on the market with them.

  13. Ok even better for wolf spiders is the factory looking area in the northeast of Cap near two explore badges and one of the plaques.

But lately I've gotten tired of hunting grey cons and have tried to find missions to farm things instead - might as well get exp while killing things. So I've found for wolf spiders the second mission of the radio's arc is great. If you get it at level you can run it at your base difficulty then reset and turn up the team size after you've leveled til you get your 200. If you go through ouro the first mission is just a boss kill and you can log out to reset the spider mish til you get enough. Then at some point in the 20s switch to blue and run the Peebles arc. You should get your marcones and have the +resist ring as a bonus. For demons you can run Smoke and Mirrors on blue over and over til you get them - took me about 3 runs x8 just killing the frost demons and completing the objectives. But that arc's already great merit/minute so running it more with lower spawns would be no issue. It opens at 25 if you talk to Twilight Son next to the ouro mish crystal or it's in the 30 or 35 flashback section. I've been heading for it right after running the patron arc and it gets me good exp on the way to Tina at 40. (I get atlas and portal jockey on blue, high pain, invader and demonic on red.)

  14. Iirc purples were a flat 1 in 5000 chance for any kill over level 47. I also recall seeing Leandro say somewhere that the rate for those hadn't been changed, but I don't remember where so it's possible i dreamed it. But they've always been super streaky.

  15. Influence and high end builds being easier to come by will keep me playing longer. I don't want to spend hundreds of hours per character to get them where I want them.

Munki and Justicebeliever have it right. I promise you more people quit the original CoX because they were tired of the secondary grind once you hit 50 to have a premium IO setup that cost billions. I was one of them, and I was a fairly wealthy player with multiple farm incarnates fully slotted out. Nothing like seeing your build go up hundreds of millions of dollars because your slotting requires a single IO that the profiteers and marketeers are currently pillaging people on. Great for you if one dropped. Not so great if you had to acquire financial means to buy it. Marketeering non-stop for a week or grinding endless for a single IO will kill a playerbase much faster than simply allowing the market to balance through conversion.

The strength of City of Heroes is there's so many archetypes and gamestyles to experiment with, and so many robust slotting and set bonus options at 50 for various playstyles even within each AT. There's a reason ALTitis is a thing, and always has been, a thing in CoX. The more people get to enjoy different characters at the higher tier of slotting capability, the better.

+1 to this. Not even mentioning the grind that was incarnating every alt. It's so nice not to have the long lag between a toon hitting 50 and its being in final form for running things for fun.

  16. It's not so much that people are against it as that it's already so much easier than on live to get decked out characters that we're fine with it as is. Merit rewards for ouro arcs have been increased across the board with a few exceptions and can be repeated for full rewards without cooldown. Merit costs have been halved. All AE content can drop regular rewards including purples. Things that were once behind a pay wall can be bought with in game currency or merits. Converters are plentiful and cheap. You can deck out a character in as many purple/pvp/winter/ATO sets as you can fit for less than two purples would have cost on live. It's pretty much an altoholic's paradise as far as I'm concerned. Sure I'd love it if purples dropped from the sky like snipe recipes but I'm more than set as it is - I don't even bother to farm anymore unless a friend needs a few levels. My banker just does a couple trays of converting and selling when I can stand it and I'm cash flush for decking out new 50s at buy it nao prices. All this and i have barely half the time to play I did on live and maybe a tenth of the time to team.

TLDR: If purple rate is increased, great. If not, great.
