  1. Except they neither gain nor lose anything by licensing it for free. They aren't paying for the servers, they aren't paying for developers, community managers, support staff, etc to support the game. They don't really have any financial incentive to shut down Homecoming even with declining sales unless they think that the game would generate enough profit so as to change that for their investment in all of the above, for let's be honest a niche, (almost) 20-year-old game. Could they shut it down? Yep, they own the IP. Will they shut it down? At least not in the immediate short term unless Homecoming messes something up and breaks the license terms. Longer than that, say at the end of the terms of the agreement, we don't know there. Hopefully, they just renew the terms for another period (however long that may be) because there is still really nothing to lose or gain by doing so.
  2. This. It was said over a year ago that this would be changed.
  3. There are multiple base portal powers which can be used most places.
  4. That they follow the same model as Paragon and most other development studios when they are closing what they consider and exploit? Seriously, adverting an exploit before closing it is not a good model.
  5. I doubt it is UniqueDragon. UD made sense. He used some... strange phrasing. But, I at least understood what he was trying to say. I'm at a loss here.
  6. That is how you would have to do it. Talking to Null The Gull in Pocket D is the fastest way to do that. You can also do tips to change your alignment.
  7. My favorite used to be Controller. It still is but it used to be too.
  8. Maybe a stupid question, how is what you mention above done? Who you talk to depends on if you're a Hero or a Villain. But there's an NPC you talk to, that adjusts your Notoriety. You can set it so that Door Missions spawn as if you level was -1 to +4 compared to what you actually are, and so that the minimum team size is anywhere from just you (x1) up to a full eight members (x8). Two people, same mission; one is at -1/x0 - most of the enemies will con Blue, some White, and an occasional Lieutenant might be Yellow. The other is at +4/x8. EVERYTHING IS RED AND PURPLE, and there's six or more times as many of those things. :) You can talk to the Field Analysts or Fateweavers but, you don't need to. Notoriety can be changed by clicking on the Chat Bubble icon on your chat window.
  9. Sorry you had to go through that. Glad to hear you're in remission, though. Welcome Home!
  10. ** POOF ** Brilliant as always. Welcome home, Arcanaville!
  11. I don't know how much weight I give to the theory that City of Hero's failure (in 2005) related to City of Heroes shut down (in 2012). I say this considering it had no impact on on them purchasing the full rights in 2006 and doesn't seem to have an impact 6 years later when they shut the game down. It is clear the NCSoft was no longer interested in running the game. And they did claim at the time that they wanted to focus on the Asia market more. As for letting Homecoming and the rest run in order to drum up business, I think they missed their opportunity to sell to anyone but the community at this point. The code base is out in the wild and we don't need a company to run it. What company would waste the money to the rights to a game they cannot control? The problem with cracking down is yeah there is only 5 known servers now. But, there is nothing preventing more from popping up. It would be playing whack-a-mole on that investment, and each pursuit would be more investment spent. It would not be worth it. I think they are doing nothing because it is not worth it financially to do it. Pure and simply, bottom-line motivation.
