I'm not computer smart really, just good at remembering things I read, and therefore passing useful info on. Maybe I should have said it evolved into something better, and therefore became obsolete the way it was. I didn't really know what happened to it, I was just under the impression that CoH used a lot of things that ended up being impractical and that's why it's so crazy to run. My apologies for misspeaking if OpenGL wasn't one of them. ;)
It's really weird that they essentially generic'd your global. I know the naming policy went into effect, maybe, but any action there shouldn't have taken place until after 30 days of inactivity. I also would have thought that global names were exempted from that rule, but I don't think they actually said one way or the other. You might try to hit up a GM on Discord and ask them. Or possibly message the person who has the global now, and ask them if they had to ask to have the name released.
As far as global handles crossing servers, they always have. The point of the global handle is specifically so that you can communicate across servers in chat channels and stuff.
If you haven't, you will need to run the Midnighter's Arc. Montague Castanella (or whatever his last name is) is located inside the university in Steel Canyon, or you can find him by clicking "Find Contact" on the Contacts tab. Once you have completed the arc you can enter the Midnighter's Club, where there is a crystal you click to get to Cimerora. And since you are already 35 Montague will hit you up with a new mission to go to Cimerora, anyway, which will give you map markers if you have a hard time finding it.
The integrated intel graphics are gonna kill it on a Surface, since they don't support OpenGL anymore, unless you can manage the workaround. Silk's guide might help you if you want to try that.
The Asus on the other hand... Are you running graphics on performance or quality? Also make sure your FSAA isn't maxed. It never does well, even on beasty rigs.
Unfortunately CoH uses a lot of stuff that was starting to be outdated even while it was still live. Stuff like OpenGL, that just didn't catch on. It's also 32-bit in what has become a 64-bit world. Hopefully whatever is causing your issue is an easy fix. Otherwise I'm sure some folks will chime in with advice on a low cost machine that will be able to run it smoothly for you.
Go into Options on Tequila and re-validate, if you haven't. If that doesn't help, I'd say try turning down your graphics all the way, just until you get out of there. If neither of those things work, I'd file a support ticket and have them move you to another zone.
Night Ward used to give me a hard time, too.
Cipher posted in Discord yesterday that they are having issues on their end as far as server connections go, so it might be something that gets cleared up once they deal with that.
I'm not sure if this will help, but you can try it.
They've been having issues on their end, in other words, so it might not be you. Can't hurt to give it a shot.
I don't know if your issue is related to the loading/zoning issues they are having, but I wouldn't give up just yet.
Did we make sure it's not an anti-virus issue? I've just never heard of it freezing there. Am perplexed.
A couple of notes from Cipher on the Discord, for those of you who don't use it...
Edit: From Discord announcements on 6/20/19...
And there is a thread and a request from Cipher for people experiencing this issue.
Well, the thing is in some cases, that the game is literally too old. Most systems are 64-bit and CoH is 32-bit. Plus there's the whole OpenGL thing. Intel's graphics don't even support it anymore, so a lot of new laptops can't run it.
Sadly, I am not the person to help you, I don't think, but the computer savvy folks who can help you will want to know what you are trying to run the game on. :)
That manifest is wrong. Go into options and at the bottom where it says "Manifests" put https://savecoh.com/manifest.xml into the box and click add. Or if it is already there select it and click "OK".
Edit: I'm dumb. That actually looks like it's just having an issue loading the new picture/link. Not sure why that would cause a problem. ???
Did you create a game account as well as a forum account? You have to create each separately and the game account is what you use to log in to CoH, not the forum account.
Go here if you haven't set that up yet: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/account/
