Something to play towards or un-necessary forced time sink
Ruin Mage replied to Hero_of_Light's topic in General Discussion
On second thought, there would be only one sort of grind tied to badges I'd be marginally okay with. Where defeating specific NPCs unlock their NPC costume parts for use. Not even 100 of a mob group, but AVs/EBs/Heroes. There, you have your grind. -

I think it's a bit of an odd doomsaying to say that a lack of content to unlock/grind is going to cost this server its life. It was not fun to grind badges to get a costume piece you needed to complete a costume. It was not fun, especially as the AH prices got shittier, to try and work towards the Excalibur sword as another example. This game is not particularly complex. There's not much meant to be grinded in the Homecoming version - badges and that's it. I would rather not see costume pieces or base pieces (which was a thing as well!) locked behind a badge or a story arc. This isn't that sort of game anymore, imho. I would rather see effort put behind creating new content in general and not creating gated content. I myself get my heap of grinding through Everquest, I do not need or desire a second game with similar or near enough grind. Not every game needs to have a grind or unlocks, imho. If there were to be a grind, I would rather it be put behind veteran levels. That is a solution I could get behind. I definitely wouldn't want the rewards to be costume pieces or base pieces. So that leaves a question of just what one would grind. To which my answer is: Nothing. The game doesn't need one 🙂 -

I'm going to have to say no, I don't really want a grind for costume pieces or anything. This is a private server of a dead game. A side game for some, or perhaps the day of hard grinding is a thing of the past for some others. I for one would rather be playing FFXIV or WoW or some other game for the hard grind. Don't get me wrong - earning things feels nice, but not every game needs it. I mean, there's badges you need to do a little bit of grinding for. Some take their time, and others don't. That's enough for me. I for one don't particularly care to have things in a superhero game put behind a 100 kill bosses badge or whatever. If there is anything else that could be locked behind badges, sure maybe that's the key. Otherwise, keep the grind/unlock where it is at: At a bare minimum or in other MMOs. I have told myself time and time again to ignore this sort of shenanigans, but boy howdy does this tilt me off the face of the earth - we don't need anything like what you say. We don't need transparency, we don't need to be let in on anything. The fact they've told us their plans and where the money goes is plenty enough, and asking for more / asking to have a seat at the table is baffling. This is their server, not ours. End of story on that one. -

Some people just want to play victim, I imagine. Or they refuse to believe they can do wrong. Perfect angel or something of the sort. -

Beep beep I'm a sheep. EDIT: To contribute and not be a shitpost, any server has its shitheads. Any community does. It's the nature of the internet. However, Everlasting has been amazing - I must reiterate this ten thousand times. -
These attacks on the thread are both sad and hilarious. But yes, what Starforge is saying is correct.
-
Hilarious.
-
You're funny. I like you. I have no clue where I got Shadeknight from, tbh. It just stuck. Though he was never a homage character. Not a straight only one character one at least.

It's not really a dramatic problem, but people don't exactly vocalize they have a specific name. It's just that some names people do /getglobalname of and...well, it eventually becomes fruitless for one reason or another. Some names just haven't been seen for half a year to a full year or so. Some people have bragged about holding onto names, or some variant of the word brag.
-
Best case scenario is that the devs figure out how to make a Champions Online style system. That's a pipe dream however. Each server has a name thread, but the entire point of this suggestion is to clear up names that haven't been seen in a while.
-
yes. please.

Now that I took a moment to douse myself in water. Here's all that I, personally, aim for in asking for a naming policy; Fairness It doesn't need to be a full year, but something with months still. No Exemptions No one is above anyone else. Not even for getting to 50. No E-Mails No. Just absolutely not. We aren't owed that courtesy.
-
at this point this thread is going to make me bald before this year is over.
-
i really kicked the hornet's nest when i made this thread.

Let me put it like this: Names matter to people. If its a generic name akin to Blue Avenger, well that's asking for it. However, there are likely several names not-so generic that are sitting for 6+ months without activity. For some people, names matter because xXSephirothXx was one of the only things available for their controller. A unique naming method is harmful in some way, especially when some people do not want to pull out a dictionary to make a name. The HC team does not need to give us anything in regards to "oh hey let me email this person because x name they have is up for grabs." - You are unironically asking for the team to do more work just because you don't have any better ideas. This is not a live service game run by professional developers. This is a private server for a game that got shut down in 2012. They do not and should not follow the same ideals as live service MMOs that are actively run by companies.
-
We are not owed an email just because we've been gone for a year. That's not how this works nor is it how it should work. No one is that important. We are not owed any courtesy like that.
-
Again, for some people - a name matters. It may seem silly to you, but so do your arguments against a name policy come off as being silly. You are legitimately coming off as contrarian and/or facetious at this point. Unless how names work changes, a policy towards names and inactivity is a good measure to look into. There have been several arguments as to why, and not one has had a good counter-argument. Let me use myself as an example - under the last proposed policy that I screencapped? I have four names I no longer have at risk: Occult Shadeknight Prologue Spellgeist If I am gone for a year, Spellgeist is the only one that can go up for grabs under that policy. That's it. One of 4 varying names that could see use in someone else if I disappear for a year+. I would not be mad if I couldn't/didn't log on for a year and lost the names. No one should be exempt from an inactivty policy because no one is above anyone else. No job or walk of life puts you above anyone else. Not military, not law enforcement, not lawyers, and so on. You also made an argument that HC should inform a person if their name is about to be freed up due to inactivity - which you've not yet refuted the counter-argument that we are not owed such. HC does not have to do anything about letting us know. We can look on the character screen to see how long its been since it was last played. What I would like to see is a City Information Tracker website to help facilitate a naming policy - so you can see when someone last logged on. A policy is needed. Either the one last proposed in 2019 or one modified off of that. One without large exemptions like a year. A year is a long time.
-
I would want it to be halved across the board at least, but that would probably ruffle a few feathers. I'd also remove the protection from 50s.
-
...what? Please elaborate what you mean.
-
Consideration, yes, but 90 days is 3 months. 365 days is an entire year. Now, mind you, I'd be okay with the policy waiting until everything isn't batshit crazy but on the other hand? That's going to be a while. I am not, to make it clear, asking for a policy right here and right now. I am asking that one gets implemented when possible. A policy that is similar to the one proposed by HC last year. However changed it needs to be. 30 days to a year is very generous. There does not need, in my humble opinion, to be any further exemptions. I would argue even for modifying the day amount or level brackets considered. I am against exemptions based on real life paths that people choose - job or no job. This includes the military. Which, to my knowledge, not every military has active deployment in areas where just logging on is nigh impossible for 30+ days. This goes for other jobs. Hell, if anyone would need an exemption in this day and age? It is doctors and nurses.
-
If someone is unable to log on for 90+ days, then I don't know what to tell you. 21 to 49 has a YEAR to log on. If someone is gone for that long, then I'm sorry chief but protecting their names is not okay. If I was gone for a year for RL reasons, I'd suck it up. RL comes first over a private server for a video game shut down in 2012. The policy could use some updates, but one is needed if a game is to have unique names per person. If it had a Champions Online style of naming, this wouldn't be an issue. Homecoming does not owe people to contact them if their name is up for grabs. That's not how this works, we are owed nothing from them just for playing on their private server.
-
I'm just saying I'd be surprised. But yes, that would be considered active. I still stand by we need some sort of name policy/purge outside of this supposed level 1-20 one.
-
If it takes anyone 20 days to get to level 10 I'd be surprised unless they purposefully try to do like a mission a day and that's it. In which case: More power to you.
-
FOUND IT. This policy is what we could do. It's the one proposed in 2019. That's SUPER generous, but I'd want to modify it personally.
-
A name policy that releases inactive name harms no one and benefits everyone. Because not everyone wants to have to look up some google translate name to make a character's name just to get around the name they desired not being available. I'm trying to find where HC posted the policy they had in mind but its like the forums ate it.
