  1. Okay... What am I missing?  I know they buffed Sentinel damage a while back.  But the MiDs numbers I am seeing do not make sense. Unenhanced MiDs values:

                              Blaster     Sentinel

    Dark Blast           62.56       61.17

    Gloom                110.1       107.7

    Umbral Torrent   60.06        58.72

    Abyssal Gaze      132.7       129.7

    Life Drain            102.6       100.3

    Blackstar             250.2       194.6

Am I being catfished by MiDs?  These are fresh open no hidden buttons clicked "naked" MiDs numbers....

    Please...

try a Dark/Poison controller. No self-rez but those are less than necessary these days with P2W and bonus stuff. You will be very pleasantly surprised, it can be made to fit with your theme and is surprisingly robust. Don't eschew the T8 Poison hold - it's a good mule and stacks with your other abilities. You will kill stuff you find surprisingly difficult to kill on other ATs.

You can also PVP exceptionally well. (Not sure if that's a USP that grabs you but it does mean you can adventure in PVP zones with confidence and do things like getting nukes & shivans without fear)

I do not, ever ever ever PvP.  Unless you play chess.  I am a moderately grumpy 1600-1700 player.

it HAS to be Dark Dark. Preferably Dark Dark Dark.  Is there a 4th Dark.  I am being told just my attitude.  Okay, I will work on 4th Dark.

  3. This is a weird one for me.  I am trying to mesh my “fictional vampire” from some bad fiction i write with a workable AT from CoH/V.  The problems are many.  The close calls fall around me like artillery shells in no man’s land. Which one will be mine?

I started with Brutes.  After a long time on a Dark/Invul i was encouraged to try Dark Dark.  It was a good suggestion.  A very good representation. Tough, a self Rez, very Dark.  No ranged powers.  Fury.  A slave to the CoH melee/agro box and 7 ft attacks.

Tanks.  More survivable than Brutes.  Less damage. Still melee

    Scrapper less and more

    Stalker ditto

A Corruptor.  So damned close.  Healing others?   Squishy. Sigh, so damned close.

A Blaster!   So much sweet sweet damage.  No self rez.  Kind of…. Let’s just say not sturdy.

A Dominator!   So cool, decent ST ranged damage, controls to not be as squishy.  Hmmm.  Wait, what? Domination and Dark build up are both rainbow effects?   Can we just leave it out for the sun.  Let it die, just let it die.

A Controller.  Very cool. Very Dark.   Very cool.  No self rez, squishy, no damage.

A Defender.  It is like a Corruptor.  Just… okay, moving on.

Hmmm.   Now I will own up to smack talking Sentinels.  But….   It has toughness.  Not like a Tank, but enough for story.  Self rez.  Okay.  Spell caster, ranged damage and things like Darkest Night ( Dark^3 ) Hmmm.  Damn thing checks off every box from short story.

Anyone know if this Sentinel thing has rainbows coming off its Dark powers or if Netherworld Tentacles are white like Blaster/Soul Patron/ Soul Tentacles, or some other rainbow, bright glow, pretty princess BS?

  4. Yeah a celerity +stealth proc is useful when a character has a power like dark’s shadow fall that gives partial stealth.or Blaster device’s partial stealth.  When wanting full stealth just toggle on sprint.  Turn it off to save endurance when the need to hide is over.

But Concealment Stealth is a “full” hide/stealth.  Except against the usual suspects: Ritki drones, Rularuu Eyeballs, a few Nemesis arseholes (they all look alike. ) You’ll know they have when when every Nemesis in a spawn suddenly points their rifle at you…. Some mobs just see through stealth and tell all their friends.

  5. So i was running a Yin with a team today.  5 person team and i am on a Blaster.  A very aggressive AR Dev Blaster.  Not built for defense. Built for range and damage.  Multiple times i get to about 30 feet (devices has a half/hidden ability) from a large group. I throw smoke grenade.  (Blasters always throwing shade…) Then i unleash Full Auto.  It does not kill all at once. It pisses everybody off. Rarely do i get hit one time even though i do this about 20 times during the Task Force. So… was your stealth on?  Do you shower regular? Are you allergic to shellfish?

So... I have a couple of characters I've been struggling to name.  I thought I'd see if I could get some suggestions from the gallery.

The first is a character based on Colossus of the X-Men.  The premise of his power is that he can emit and coat his body with a non-Newtonian fluid that becomes rigid on impact, acting like armour.  It also exists in his muscles and bones, making him very strong.  He's a Tanker with Invulnerability and Super Strength.  I made him Ukrainian, a former circus strongman before joining my mutant super-team.
I've tried every variation of steel and iron I can think of, every variation on the word or concept of armour.  I tried Dilatant, referring to the dilatant nature of the fluid, but it just isn't very satisfying as a name.  So... help?

The other is based on Cyclops of the X-Men.  The premise of the character is that his body draws energy from the environment around him (light, radiation, etc.) and uses it to create unstable particles.  Stored in the soft tissues of his body, they can only escape from his eyes.  When they come in contact with air, they draw energy from the air molecules, creating waste photons (red light) as they draw themselves through the air.  When the come in contact with a material too dense to draw energy from, they instead discharge all their stored energy against the target.  He's Canadian, on the run since his powers destroyed a city block.  Recruited into my mutant team, he's learning to control the power.

Being based on Cyclops, I really wanted him to use eye beams, but there's just not any power sets that provide that in a satisfactory way.  Radiation has X-Ray Beam, but it's ONE power, which just isn't enough.  I tried using the Psionic Blast set, but the look and sound just doesn't work.  So, I think I'm just going to make him a Blaster with Energy Blast and Martial Combat, and hope that someday they make alternate animations for eye blasts.
As for his name, the one I had wanted originally was Hadron, but that wasn't available.  Neither was any other particle in existence, and I tried them all.  I've tried coming up with some kind of reference to supercolliders, but nothing quite fits.  I tried variations on Shockwave and other kinds of waves, but nothing is available.  Nothing I've tried is available... so, help?

I've been trying name after name after name for about a week now, and can't get anything.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

rozshyrennya is the anglicized spelling of Dilatant in ukrainian.  I would look at other ukrainian words that match your concept and see if one fits.

sad news, they will never do alternate animations.  i wont get an all zombie MM, and Doms are off limits to me because they are rainbow smears across my dark creations.  long story short, alter your concept or be forever unsatisfied.  Make him a strange polka dot man / cyclops story hybris and use EnergyEnergy on a Blaster.  That would destroy a city block in an origin event....  on Live I had one named Zerg.  Erg is the unit of energy, as i am sure you know.  Z is just a cool sound to slap in front of it.  i had never heard (consciously) the word zerg, zerging, etc.  making up words is fun.  slam a few together.  just ask the germans.  then when they get too long take the first syllables of all the important words and use that as shorthand! a million ways to be creative.

Honestly @Snarky dark/dark controller might just be the best overall dark/dark toon you can make. Dark Affinity is really great and Dark Control is one of the best control sets.

at least none of the powers shoot rainbows.  seriously though, while obviously low dps i do see a lot of value in Controllers.  A specialist like Dark Dark brings a ton of value to a team when "working the crowd."  to put it in perspective i would rather see a well run controller on a team than a Brute.  and i love Brutes.  But a Controller can ...well....control.  while a Brute herds (if we are lucky) and does dps.

  8. I only "multibox" when I use my alt acct Farmer to PL a main acct toon.  Or use the Farmer to move products one toon to another en maaase.

I am not even sure if the way I do it is "multi boxing" because I use two separate computers.  Does this look like two separate comps, or does it look the same as multi accts on one comp client side since all from same IP address?  And if so, what if a family of 3-4 different individuals all played in the same house?  Multi boxing?

While it should not happen, it does and always has as a result of the engine design. There is a delay between an attack being started and the hit connecting. Always has been. unfortunately buff/debuff changes get applied when the attack start, not the damage being registered.

While I appreciate the authority by which you speak (1 post ever) I have run a Stalker and did not encounter this.  I would remember.  And i would have posted.  Doug Graves seems to be saying what I have experienced in my limited time on Stalky MxStalkerton from Stalkville.

  10. Fear is great on all Dark builds. It is a strange control in that it reduces the number of times the enemies attack. Usually it comes with a fat to hit debuff on Dark. I assume the above reference is the presence pool.  Which i would pass on.

If nothing else, I'd say a dark/dark controller should be able keep almost any PUG alive pretty much single handily in most "regular" TF's.  So the downside is you wouldn't be able to post  one of your infamous PUG  stories while playing it...maybe...

    Badge Challenge Accepted!

  12. 5 hours ago, Xaddy said:

So...you reach level 50. You do some incarnate stuff..grab some badges along the way. And yet, there's soo much left to do! But noone seems interested in grinding out ouro badges because..well, doing content without enhancements is just plain masochistic, and ultimately silly and pretty much stupid. Just for a badge or three? It's nuts.

I could suffer through it solo, I suppose. Maybe make a 2nd account with some travel power support, like a kin with inertial reduction and speed boost.
    But there's that dirty word..."Alt".

I really don't want to play alts. I want to play this character. But there's other powersets to explore.

Do I limit myself to x units of time for an alt...or x units of time for the primary?

Why did I think up "Wafer Thin Mint" as an alt name? I mean, what team is so full it doesn't have room for a wafer thin mint?

There isn't enough time in the day to do what I want to do!

I "somewhat" regularly do the Ouro Badges.

    I have two main strategies.

    1) level to the range you want to do +1 level.  This opens that range in Ouro.  Then do that content for the badges.  In this way you are affected very little by exemplar math.  which is gruesome below 30.

    2) level all the way to 50.  Then custom build an 'alt build" for each level range.  make one for level 10.  do all 10 or below content.  9most 9-, 7- etc)  Then Make a build for level 15, respec to that.  Do all 14-, repeat.

here is an example of a level 50 corruptor built for level 10- ouro.  the trick is to use sets that exemplar down to 7, and globals that work at that level as well.  Your damage will be lessened, but your survivability will be way up.  Until you get to the "no enhancer challenge"  use big inspirations then lol.

  13. How do Controllers do in Incarnate Trials and *Starred content 1/2/4.... ?  Everyone knows the meta there is 7 Corruptors and 1 Tank.  But other ATs do pretty good.  Blasters, um... something else will come to mind.  I know it lol.

i have not watched/definitely not experienced how the Controller AT does that deep into late game.  Any clues?  I have run a few Blasters through the mahor Task Forces to get a feel for powers.  Mostly Ice and Dark variations.  For this project was considering Dark Dark of course.

Oh, and as a control I am posting this same thread in Sentinels.  If Sentinels are all like "we do great" and Controllers are all like "We do great"  I know everyone is full of....um, misinformation lol.

Thanks in advance.  Your "friendly" neighborhood Snarky.

  14. Is this where I say I run 4 all the time in Summer Blockbuster?

If I form a team I want as many as possible.  My feeling is there is a "weak floor" and "strong middle management" on teams.  Then, if I am leading, an insane CEO.  The hope in recruiting is that you get a lot of the Mgt, and less of the floor.  But, unless you know the players through experience, you are shooting down a dark hallway. So, get more.  Always more.  A strong group of 3 can handle +4/x8.  So if we get those probably going to be fine with whatever crawls in to fill the other billets. The "comedy element"

Right, you lose 75% of the DEF value.  Despite that I still find the power useful in many of my characters' builds.  Like @Snarky I don't slot Stealth for DEF, other than with the LotG 7.5% piece.  I do use it as a mule for other procs/globals occasionally.  If I take this power, I am almost always taking it early in the build in order to be able to stealth missions when appropriate.  Combined with a Stealth proc in Sprint or some other travel power, a character is effectively invisible to most enemies.  That is worth more than the minimal unsuppressed DEF that the power grants - but that DEF does stack with other sources & can contribute to getting to softcap.

Exactly.  I tend to take Stealth early in a build.  For levelling or when Exemp'd down I have it.  Before Leadership Manuevers usually by 10-15 levels.  So I put a Kismet +to hit in it.  Since I run stealth constantly this gives a great bonus.  F-ing Gold.  Then when I get more enhancer slots and the build is not tight I add a LOTG.

in the description for Stealth it say that if you attack or are attacked you will loose some of your defense bonus. how much do you loose?

    most of it.

I run concealment stealth a lot.  With one LOTG 7.5% recharge /defense enhancer at 50 this gives 8.12% defense.  When I attack this goes to 2.03%

    Are branded character names  illegal?

On live I had a bit of a go with naming an energy blaster Zerg.  I had NO idea it meant anything, seriously.  Ask anyone that knows me, it's like I live in a tomb... errr.  Anyways I got generic'd, then petitioned for why, and after two weeks got "my" name.

Why did i want Zerg?  Erg is a unit of energy, and Zs are cool.  Zs are one of the reasons i took up studying german lol.  i am a glutton as well i guess.
