FIRE/FIRE Build

Jace The Comic Source1

Recommended Posts

Looking for feedback on my Fire/Fire Blaster. I am planning on playing him primarily as a Ranged toon, if I go into melee something went wrong. Also I wanted to have Perma Hasten and have him be as durable as possible.

Any Feedback is appreciated.

Your build looks fine. I will say that +HPs is an under-rated form of mitigation. I made some adjustments to add 150 more HPs. You lose 2.6 seconds off Hasten recharge, a negligible amount of Smashing/Lethal resists, 1.3% range defense and a 3% damage buff. I also added the Preventative Medicine proc, costing you some End recovery, but you should not have endurance issues without the Miracle once you have Cauterizing Aura.

I also swapped in Superior Winter's Bite in Ring of Fire instead of Grav Anchor. Ring of Fire has a very good DPA and recharges so fast you can easily keep enemies still with its base immob duration. This also pushed the Ranged defense back up, slightly higher than your build, but lost another 3 seconds off Hasten. Losing the 10% recharge may not be worth it to you. The recharge becomes less important end game, with the availability of Ageless and/or Agility. Both Musculature Radial and Agility Core are solid Alpha choices for you, Agility Core closes the Hasten gap, but if you are going Ageless, I would probably choose Musculature (the little bit of extra Defense from Agility is a consideration over Musculature though).

Your build has a lot I like, but I think I am going with the one listed below. I took my build and made a few changes. However., I like your build so much I am goign to use it on a Fire/Fire blaster for a different account. That way I can play both and see which one I like better.

Here is a build designed for those that don't want to get in melee period. pew pew pew!

I blatantly left out any powers that require you to be in melee range but let me tell you why this build is serviceable.

1 - Ranged Softcap + respectable resists

2 - Very high global recharge

3 - Mass immob to keeps mobs from getting to you so you can pew pew more from range

4 - ST hold for high threat mobs

5 - A friggin pet!

6 - Exemp friendly assuming attuned IOs, you are softcapped starting at level 30.

May I ask why the decision fell on Fire/Fire when the character should be ranged only (and thus mostly single target focused)?

I'm asking because Fire truly shines with all of it's AOE attacks in the mid to close range, finishing everything of with short range/melee attacks, that comes running towards you.

Since Fire's secondary effect is just even more damage, I feel like other sets might be more suited for the suggested playstyle

Not trying to force any playstyle on anybody, I'm just curious.

Sorry I couldn't help with the ranged rotation, as my normal playstyle would be

(Aim, Build Up,) Fire Breath, Fireball, Fire Sword Circle, (Rain of Fire,) Blaze, Fire Sword (Fire Blast)

I can't answer for the OP, but I understand your question. /Fire does shine more for melee/near melee. I would guess thematics would be the primary reason, although Ring of Fire is actually a very good first tier blaster secondary power for a ranger. Burn is also decent at making enemies get away from you, so not bad defensive option for a ranger.

The Fire/ primary is a fine mix of AoE and single target range attacks, even skipping Fire Breath, you deal good AoE with just Fireball and Rain of Fire (and of course Inferno).

Well since Inferno is basically also melee range, I figured it was also not really used and just taken because you are kinda expected to take the nuke as a blaster and/or for emergencies.

Based on the gameplay style other sets just have it easier to keep the distance with their secondary effects, like knockback, slow or longer ranges, whereas Fire just burns more damage and thus gets aggro faster than anybody else.

Short range attacks are not only usefull for Blappers, who charge into the enemy groups, but also for survival when enemies come running at you.

Most of those attacks hit hard and fast and Hot Feet slows the enemies. Since with Fire, you don't have much else to stop them, you should get rid of them as fast as possible.

Theme is always a valid reason of course and for me and my builds, preference is also more important than min maxing.

I also finished reading the other thread and I see now that apparantly there are strong opinions on whether a Blaster goes into melee range at all, regardless of the set.

So before I completly derail the topic, just one final thoutht:

Even for ranged characters I want to suggest the Fire Breath + Fireball Combo, because I feel like it is just too good to be ignored. Never use Fireball first though, always start with Fire Breath.

I feel like you're missing out on most of the fun and a huge amount of the damage of a fire/fire if you only stay at range. Mine always goes into melee and half the time takes the alpha - cauterizing aura and hot feet are just that good, plus i have bonfire if I need it.

OP have you considered a sentinel? Seems like the better choice if you just want to stay at range and blast away with fire. That way anything that gets into melee you can just shrug off anyway. Or a corr to add some debuffs or buffs to the damage pile?
