Uplift Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I'm a returning live player (aren't we all lol) looking to become a bit more reacquainted with some build options. I'm settled on /willpower. That said, I'm torn between StJ and TW for my attacks, and brute/scrapper for my AT. I remember brutes being "go go go" and a viable "tank" option or melee DPS role. Scrappers I remember as more of a DPS role only. Has the general consensus changed on this at all? StJ seems to be more ST focused with some "close Aoe" where TW seems to me more geared towards larger area AoE with less ST damage. Any insight on this would be helpful. Any recommendations or pitfalls ?
Heraclea Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I am not a big fan of Titan Weapons. It works fine as an endgame set but is slow to get started, does not exemp well, and will always have a very slow and heavy feel. It will work as well as can be expected with willpower; there's no self heal or trouble button its slow animations put out of reach. Street Justice is quite playable and feels a lot faster than TW. The AoEs come late but are there. For a returning player I'd consider Stone Melee. This gets strong early and has a meaningful amount of control and AoE. Brutes are easier to make into tanks than Scrappers are, and Confront is a pale shadow of Taunt. But if you want to tank, nothing tanks lke a tanker. 2 QVÆ TAM FERA IMMANISQVE NATVRA TB ~ Amazon Army: AMAZON-963 | TB ~ Crowned Heads: CH-10012 | EX ~ The Holy Office: HOLY-1610 | EV ~ Firemullet Groupies: FM-5401 | IN ~ Sparta: SPARTA-3759 | RE ~ S.P.Q.R. - SPQR-5010 Spread My Legions - #207 | Lawyers of Ghastly Horror - #581 | Jerk Hackers! - #16299 | Ecloga Prima - #25362 | Deth Kick Champions! - #25818 | Heaven and Hell - #26231 | The Legion of Super Skulls - #27660 | Cathedral of Mild Discomfort - #38872 | The Birch Conspiracy! - #39291
drbuzzard Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 It should be made clear that TW is actually king of single target and AOE damage when the build is ultimately finished. Whether or not you particularly want to deal with the pain of getting there (moot if you get PLed and have piles of influence) is the issue. I basically never get characters PLed up except my TW tank as I didn't much want to deal with the pain. Even after my build was done I still didn't care much for the mechanics because they feel clunky. The damage it puts out is great, but honestly I made a war mace right after and I enjoy it much more (even though the damage is lower). 1
Without_Pause Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 If your focus is on the primary, go scrapper. If the focus is more on the secondary and being able to survive longer, go brute. Both primaries are going to feel different on the ATs with added in ATOs. I prefer the faster play of StJ even though TW in motion is damn impressive. WM is a good compromise. WP is better on a brute. I'm not really sure I can say StJ or TW are better on a scrapper or brute but StJ is best on a stalker. About the only definitive thing about either set being better on a scrapper is their Build Up type powers offering more damage for a scrapper. WP's lack of clicks is nice for TW though. Ultimately TW comes down to being able to deal with Momentum. I deleted my TW/bio brute in its 30s. I did make a WM/bio scrapper. Top 10 Most Fun 50s. 1. Without Mercy: Claws/ea Scrapper. 2. Coyotedancer Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I went with a Scrapper for my own Titan character... But back in the Live days my absolute favorite Brute was a guy named Anigan. He was WP/Street, and an absolute delight to play. I went for damage with him rather than defense, so he played more like a heavy Scrap than a Tank, but he could still hold his own. It was a solid combination. Taker of screenshots. Player of creepy Oranbegans and Rularuu bird-things. Kai's Diary: The Scrapbook of a Sorcerer's Apprentice
drbuzzard Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 One nice thing to note about war mace on tankers, the tanker AOE changes really did nice things to mace.
