So dropped to 35% ranged def to get more damage and control and didn't notice any difference (it still doesnt do any damage) :

The build doesn't do any damage because you skipped the damage dealing powers. You'd do more damage if you took more attacks.

 

The last you build you posted isn't cheap either with all the pvp and purple sets, for that kind of investment you could have something like this - do more damage, and be more survivable:

This combo leans heavily towards a melee blaster playstyle. If you try to force a pure ranged playstyle like you did, you will be sorely disappointed by it's performance. If you are truly afraid of going in melee with a blaster, try sentinels. Elec blast is better tuned on that AT.

I have an elec/elec/mace build on it for melee and yes it does way more damage with punching stuff in the face, the point of the 2nd build was to play something much more relaxing and purely at ranged and with a resist shield, taking mace on every blaster is so dull now it restricts fun powers from patron and epic pools hence the title elec/elec/mu ranged.

Should of pointed out at the top this is build 2 on elec/elec, having already rolled fire/elec/mace and ice/elec/mace and 80 others with mace.

I've spung up a few ranged softcap builds with epic resist shields that still took melee attacks. The melee single target attacks are great mako mules for the 3.75% ranged defense and you can still do fairly well getting in and out of melee and getting your licks in if you are mobile. S/L defense is secondary to ranged defense even in those cases because it's the ranged stuff that shut you down/whittle away at you. The key is knowing how to move, but as you said that's not a "relaxed" playstyle.

 

But if you really want to skip all the melee stuff out of principal that's on you. Elec blast is not the best primary for that and I think you know that already.

I run it as a blapper on build 1 when i want to play aggressive with 45% s/l/e switching out short circuit and lightning field depending on how lazy i feel or if i'm patient enough to wait for SC animation and focus on FoT, lightning ball, charged brawl, thunderstrike, shocking grasp etc but i like the patron epics and i occasionally just want to hover blast with it. Still prefer elec blast to fire despite the damage difference and i get way higher resists which make a big difference in endgame stuff when scorp shield gets tickled and your desperately clicking insps cos your def got debuffed to negative numbers you can just float away and continue sniping instead of legging it as fast as poss out of enemy range. And its nice to have multiple builds depending on how you feel like playing. Appreciate the response tho i do like your fire/elec build, i tried it for a while but it wasn't for me but i suspect thats fire blast more than the build. I mostly play melee regardless of toon/AT its just more fun that way this was just an attempt to try something i haven't before as every other blaster i have is built to blap in melee.

tend to agree, & would argue it results in less dmg output & even less durability most of the time. sure, they're safe at range (unless something manages to bean them from melee) - but like Nemu said, they miss-out on killing speed. Fire3 and Water/Atom/Mu are 2 of my fav's, but man it was hard to get defenses into the 40's. the payoffs are large tho... they still have high Def in really low-lvl content, which makes them incredibly powerful to blap with, & they take far less dmg in the late-game than /Mace blasters. both chars are in melee 100%. maybe take a fresh look, & try chasing typed Def instead?

I may do that although i find it takes a huge amount of slots out of my attacks to find places for unbreakable sets or slotting full thunderstrikes to get to 40ish defence numbers and that leaves me feeling the attacks are underwhelming if they don't have at least dmg proc in. I'm still in mids tho i find myself spending almost as much time looking at and making builds as playing the game pretty much as it was on live trying to find that perfect toon and build to be my main. At shutdown i was only playing ill/dark troll and ice/cold corr, the other 100+alts just sat alone but on HC i haven't got there yet and i must have about 100 incarnates again all fully geared up. I'll find something eventually just gotta keep looking i guess 😛

I will say it is really easy to cap ranged def and cap smashing and lethal resists on a elec/elec/mu and that is with only tough/weave and charged armour.

Mine has 49% ranged def and 75%S/L resists.

And it's cheap as chips.

No purples.
