UGH.

Okay, so I used to LOOVe FF. Always wanted to get one to cap, never got around to it. Fast forward. Got my lovely little Ice/FF to 50... and I just can't... I can't do it! I CANNOT DO IT. I can't play FF and not pretend like I wouldn't have more fun on Ice/Cold... concept wise, FF fits great - big giant bubbles for my fish. Bloop Bloop.

Cold Gains:

Endless Endurance (96/90 Heat Loss)

Stealth (meh)

Infrigidate

Sleet/3rd Rain

I don't have to take friggen Cardiac to not go out of endurance /ergh (Yes, I do have to take it. I could try to get by with Ageless spam but it would be pretty close/too close for comfort).

FF Gains:

A bit more defense (~2.7% more or so which actually puts my cold at below scap)

+Resist Hold/Immobilize/Stun (this is actually the major "defense" for FF right now in my head)

+FF proc on Repulsion Field

PFF for emergencies (meh)

Bubble wall (I take it for fun not for anything serious)

But Heat loss and sleet... i don't think the hold resist beats that... and it doesn't take long to AE farm up a character (okay, it's kinda long to get to 60 Emp merits to get alpha capped but whatever)... i just think I hafta switch or I'm just gonna constantly sit around and think about it whenever I play this fish... T_T

Personally, I find Force Field to be one of the most boring sets to play. It's way too passive and the active skills it has aren't very interesting. There are way more interesting sets out there that also have some knockback/knockdown powers and have other more useful skills.

As for Cold, Sleet is one of the main reasons that Cold is good. -30%def and -30%res is no joke. If you go with that set, I actually wouldn't even consider Sleet to be your 3rd rain power.... Ice Storm and Blizzard are your 2nd and 3rd rain powers. Sleet is that good because it doesn't just make you hit harder, it makes your whole team hit harder.

The Status Protection that FF gives you is a plus for sure and should not be underestimated but it is something that is a lot more useful when you are solo than when you are in a group situation so this really depends if you solo a lot or if you group a lot. When you are grouping and you have meat shields in front of you soaking those CCs it's not even a real issue except rarely and in those situations you can eat a break free when it happens.

Cold is my set of choice here as it offers much more utility than FF which I find to be a one trick pony set whose trick is a bit lame.

P.S I saw in your Cold build that you forgot to add in a Shield Wall +5% Res (All) IO

Yah it's so unfortunate :(. I just can't find a way to justify playing FF where it feels I have a dump of a secondary... either way, I started to build the cold (Very VERY passively) levels... it's 20/60 for emp merits (to get a t4 alpha).... ;( the good news is i can rip straight from the FF to the cold and now i'll have enough extra inf from just AE farming its levels to pay for one of my other builds after, lol

So I completed it... but might switch back - or night have to really rely on clarion, lol. I got my face owned by hold/stun in a carnival mission haha but otherwise it’s great end wise lol

Cold is imo the best support set. A sum of all the pieces that both buffs and debuffs extremely well without overly relying on 1 or 2 over tuned powers.

I think arctic fog is actually my favorite power from the set. Fog+winters gift+3 piece winter set means near immunity from slows/-rech.

It no doubt gives me the support I need-but I’m very much a tanker that doesn’t play tanks, gameplay wise... clarion is really necessary for me on cold ... lol

That is often the pickle I find myself in too.

Either a set struggles for endurance and I take ageless, or you need the mez protection so you take clarion.

I ended up alternating rune of protection and melee hybrid on my poison defender with really nice results. I might try that on my cold as well so I can take barrier.  Melee core doesnt actually "need" any enemies to give good status and regen.

If you want strong debuffs and mez protection, take a look at Sonic Resonance.
