RageusQuitus2 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Now that bases are free to make and fix after mass destruction. I would love to see this reinstated. You could make a base raid only base. Despite the bugs, I have fond memories of the villain SG I was in facing off against a seriously powered hero SG. And thats when prestige meant something. Just a thought. Apologies if this is an oft mentioned topic that causes flame wars. I would think if its not your cup of tea, you dont have to risk your base.
Coyotedancer Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 This comes up every so often... and the answer is always the same. It's about as likely to happen as the servers sprouting wings, turning into pigs and taking flight. The way we build bases these days breaks all of the placement and pathing rules that base-raiding required. If you want raiding back, you'd have to kiss things like objects in hallways, objects that clip through the walls and through each other, disconnected rooms and raid items used for non-raid construction goodbye. I doubt any of us who build would be very happy with that. 1 Taker of screenshots. Player of creepy Oranbegans and Rularuu bird-things. Kai's Diary: The Scrapbook of a Sorcerer's Apprentice
RageusQuitus2 Posted June 27, 2020 Author Posted June 27, 2020 Yeah fair enough. Certainly wouldnt want to ruin others fun. What happens if you leave as is and allow base raiding. Being my build experience is minor, I do understand what each of those "kiss goodbye options". But what I dont understand is why base raids wouldnt work as is. So what a turret cant be touched. Itd be hard and tahts kinda the fun of it. Also if anyone else wanted to do it, there would have to be some kind of honor system when it comes to game breaking bugs. That might be better than having a game feature sidelined forever.
Coyotedancer Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 I'm not sure how much you may or may not remember about the original base raiding system, but the pathing and placement requirements were pretty strict. There's just no way our current building practices would be at all compatible with those requirements. We break those rules constantly, and that in turn would break the way the raiding system was designed to work. As I understand it, it's not just a matter of "Okay, this turret was turned upside down and half sunk into the floor to make the base for a telescope, so it's harder to hit". It's "This is in the wrong kind of room, with no power source, in an illegal and inaccessible position rendering the item/base/instance invalid, so let me crash in spectacular fashion because the raid system is not coded to handle that". Patti Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Npcs like pets also can,t navigate bases so good so controllers and masterminds would be at a huge disadvantage.
Patti Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Oh and bases built with the current system would be so cheesed in pvp. Build a one-way wall next to the objective and put all the turrets behind it and another one Way wall facing the other way so enemies can,t actually reach the object. But it would be cool for roleplay to have duels in bases. Just one on one and stuff.

Got it, crashing is a hard no. damn base raids were such a good idea. thanks for the replies.
KingofMonkeys Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 (edited) Full on Raids might be a bit of a stretch at this point, but a PVP "On/Off" switch for the most basic form of PVP should be possible in theory. The main issue would be teleport like powers and AI on pets walking on surfaces outside of the rooms. If you've ever summoned pets in ATB style bases you probably know what I mean. Giovanni Valia Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Ignoring the obvious problems with base raids such as items of power being useless and MM pets being stuck... I wonder if it would be a simple matter of turning "PvP Mode: OFF" to "PvP Mode: ON". Could the base items like turrets and traps be disabled if they were to potentially cause problems with stability? Spoiler I've heard a rumor that the ThunderSpy server is working on testing base raids. Nothing confirmatory though.
