DP/Dark Anyone?

Has anyone tried this combo? I’m curious to see if anyone has any info/experience regarding it. 

 

At a glance these 2 sets want to be up close and personal, so the synergies seem great for a melee blaster style gameplay.

 

So is this combo a unicorn or simply not discussed? Is it terrible maybe? Chime in I’d like to hear people’s thoughts.

I was just looking for info on this build.  I was thinking about building a DP/Dark cause I have a new concept and thought it might be interesting.  I've been playing with builds in Mid's, but was also looking if anyone has comments.  I typically build for R/S/L soft-cap and you can get there with these sets, but it isn't easy.  It also looks really click intensive, so not sure how it will play.  I'll probably give it a shot just because of the concept. 

 

Let me know if you have been playing it and how it plays.

Typed Defense cap. Short 5 pts on negative.

MIDS is not showing me Dark Consumption numbers. 

My concern is the Endurance but you have 2 end procs in Stam and Health. I don't know if the proc in dark consumption will work all the time or only when using the power. 
Of course Alpha incarnate or Cardiac would fix any end issues.

 

Was thinking Burnout for double AOE attack chain. 

 

EDIT- I think Touch From Beyond and Dark Consumption will have you covered with endurance.

Wow I didn't think you guys would throw builds straight up! Seems like this combo IS a unicorn after all! 😄

 

Both look great imo. My only suggestion would be improving the global recharge but you would obviously sacrifice defense in doing so...question is...is it worth it? and if so...what defense type could you afford lowering? I mean close to perma Soul Drain would be the bees knees. Once i'm back at home i can tinker. 

 

Any thought's on the Flame Epic for Bonfire and Fire Shield? that could sway having a slight drop in Def because of the added mitigation.

No i haven't unfortunately (at least not Dark Manipulation anyway) but like you i had a mild concept in mind and thought i'd ask the community whether or not this is actually a thing 🙂

Up to level 17 and like the way it is playing.  I made some changes as I was leveling to get better KB protection early.  Soul Drain takes forever to recharge at these levels, so I might end up rebuilding again to take it later.  At these levels I am playing default 1/1 notoriety, so only hitting 2 mobs max every 100 seconds for 5% ToHit and 20% Damage.  Probably not worth it at these levels.

It is always a personal prefereance thing.  Honestly, all of my Blasters go Scorpion Shield because I have found the combination of soft-cap R/S/L to be very survivable and you don't have to pick another power to get to it.  While I am alwys going for R/S/L I usually also get E/N close or over soft-cap as well, so the builds are very survivable.  I am usually pushing into ED on damage on all the attcks, so don't usually need more damage from the Epic.

 

On another note, HoB is bugged, so I am lkikely only playing this build to 32 and will wait for the fix before continuing the Journey.

You can go bonfire but that pretty much means you are giving up s/l or melee defense. You can probably get by ok with just ranged defense though, if you know how to joust your melee attacks. If you are planning to hoverblast then it's a lot slower to weave in and out of combat.

 

Melee blasters don't skip melee attacks. The way I see it if I have softcapped S/L and Ranged defense I'm gonna go in and smash face. This is how I smash face. More procs, more slow resistance, more smash!

Usually I would agree that Range is likely enough, but this build requires closer range to use Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, and Midnight Grasp, so S/L will probably be important.

HoB is bugged still? oh the under performing damage? think i read about that in this forum. Well that's fair enough i guess, you can't really see how the build performs when you're opening salvo on every mob is neutered.

 

Also agree with Lockpick about Ranged Def...this build needs to be in the mix every time to shine. However having said that, it IS useful against an alpha of ranged attacks from mobs just outside the melee threshold. Or if you or your group pull multiple mobs with exotic typed damage.

Going slow.  I play a pretty odd way because I play about 4 to 5 different characters during the course of my play time.  I usually have 2 level 50s that I am trying to get to T4 incarnates and I run Hami raids for EMPs and then run DA content with them each day.  Then I will have 2 or 3 characters I play during the week to try to level, but I like to let patrol XP gather on them, so I only play every fewd days or so.

 

I'll probably get back to this guy over the weekend.  I think I am 20 now, so my next step is usually to get in Posi 1 and 2 and Penny Yin TFs.
