So I was thinking, wouldn't it be easier to join up with friends if we could see ahead of time what characters they're playing on which shard before we select a character to jump in to join the fun?  And what's worse than logging in and finding you're on the wrong character or even shard to play with friends?  How about signing in and finding them only to have them inform you they're about to sign out because they've already been playing for awhile?

I think the only thing that's worse if getting five pounds of free chocolate when you were promised eighty one ounces.  Seriously, it's not like logging out and back in is any big deal.

That's a lot of work for what's really a minor inconvience.

Is it a lot of work, though?  Or are you just saying it because you assume it is and don't really know how it works and it's easier to just dismiss the idea by saying it's a lot of work?

Upgrading SOs was a minor inconvenience, taking only a bit of time to do. But now we have an "Upgrade" button. And I'm sure that wasn't "Oh, I can just toss in two lines of code and boom." There are such things as "Quality of Life" fixes and changes - which is what this would be.

You consider this a minor inconvenience. For that matter, I do too. But that doesn't invalidate the suggestion.

I don't know quite how it'd work out, and I doubt I'd use it much, but I don't see anything wrong with it or any real reason to argue against it.

Just so you know the SO upgrade appeared on the beta server in April and was released at the end of November. I'm not sure it was a wise investment of effort, but then again I've been a little critical of the idea from the start....
