How does WP perform on a Brute? WP/War Mace specifically

Recommended Posts

Hi all and thanks for taking your time to read this. I have a WP/Staff Tank, and he is as stout as they come. The massive HP, awesome regen #s, combined with soft capped F/C/E/N.E defenses means he just keeps going and going and going and....

Anyway, I have another "natural" concept and thought about trying a War Mace/Willpower brute. Obviously the HP won't be near as high, which also means the Regeneration won't be either. However, you should still be able to get respectable Defense #s and regeneration #s, right? And with all the stuns that WM can dish out, that means more time for your regeneration to kick in.

Lately I've been on a WP kick with my tank. The one thing I don't like about it is not having a damage aura, as I really like having those ticks of damage. The only Brutes I play, like most every one, is my farmer. It's time to change that and actually play a Brute instead of just farming.

So....anyone try this combo? Or have any insight to the powersets?

Appreciate your time,thoughts, and feedback!

 -X

I've got one. It's a lot of fun and very sturdy. I didn't go for soft-capped defense and don't really miss it. I do have capped S/L resists. I'll post the build when I get home.

Willpower performs great. I solo’d Redside on live multiple times ( every contact) on SS/Willpower Brutes using mostly SO builds

Having said that with a high end build from Hyperstrike a Invulnerability Brute will outperform a Willpower Brute in every manner.  The extra Endurance and Regeneration from Willpower is lost and/or not noticeable while the armor from the Invulnerability set is very noticeable

I maxed out an /Inv and /WP brute on beta.

My testing agrees with Snarky. /Inv is tougher when fully io'd + Incarnate.

/WP is a very strong set, but against the toughest challenges /Inv pulls ahead.

Depends what you’re fighting. I’ve got lvl 50 Invul, WP, Rad, Elec, and SR. Against psi damage, WP wins. I feel like it’s also better against mobs with -perception (like Arachnos). All around, I think Elec and SR are tougher than both.

In RWZ - the level 54 scrapper challenge, I spent a couple of hours running both a maxed /Inv and /WP brute. There is a moderate amount of psionic damage incoming, and the /Inv brute still outperformed the /WP.

It is really splitting hairs though because /WP is a fantastic armor and for pretty much most things - un-killable when maxed out.

We share similar opinions about SR. My maxed Kat/SR scrapper has handled everything I've thrown at it - without issue. The set overperforms 95% of the time, and only rarely underperforms when a couple of hits within a short window come through. People tend to seriously underestimate just how awesome SR is when fully io'd and incarnated.

I like /Elec, and had a decently io'd SS/Elec on live, but I didn't have the greatest build for him. I would guess that /Elec on a tanker would be awesome because the resists are so high you can just focus mostly on defense/hp.

That said, imo, the two toughest armor sets overall are /Inv and /SR. I would throw /Dark in for second place.

Better than on a scrapper but not as well as a tanker. Seriously. Base resistance/defense are the same between a Brute/Scrap (but Brute can hit 90% resistance whereas a scrapper can only hit 75%), but the HP pools really make the difference with WP between the two sets. Brute has a higher base AND max than a scrapper. And with a hp/s set this is HUGE.

I haven't messed with tankers since the changes, but their base resistance/defense is higher than both classes. So is their HP. And their HP has a higher max than both.

If you are running a Psi damage TF or Minds of Mayhem incarnate trial go to Auction. Buy medium and large oranges.  Put in email and leave stored on AH.  Fill tray about half full.  Prob solved.

I forgot to list Dark. I've got a 50 Dark tank that's indestructible (although it annoys me that I've got to plug the KB hole). My /Inv is a scrapper, so probably not fair comparing to a brute due to the higher resist cap.

I mained a Dark/Dark/Soul Brute for 6-7 months before switching to a Dark/Dark Blaster.  Built to their strengths (which is NOT defense...) they are insanely tanky.

Should be good on War Mace

Willpower really benefits from a AOE knockdown to let its regen kick in.  And Crowd Control should do nicely.

Also has a AOE disorient for lower levels.
